11 Best Camping Tea Kettles

Guys thought I’d show you some new kit GSI tea kettle. The maker’s GSI I picked this up at Eastern, Mountain, Sports or EMS. Some of you guys know it is: has it been over fire yet, but I have used it at home to boil water in several times and it’s a fast boiler distributes heat well and this my guests, it is an alloy, it’s almost no weight to it really I wish I had a scale but um. You really can’t even feel it, which is really good, so does have an adequate amount of space in my coffee to put things into and I that’s not even half of it.

So this is a one quart pot or a tea kettle. So this is cover your coffee and tea needs, and you know your two cup hot water for highs rate meals, that you know it’s pretty standard, I, think more than enough anybody has any questions. I’m sure you will I already had one on a forum about the the heat-resistant covering on the top of the pot pot lid in the handle and at least on the stove. So far, this doesn’t heat up at all and it’s completely cool enough for you to handle, even while it’s at a rolling boil so I don’t foresee that being a problem and if it does I really don’t care anyway, that’s gonna be really a deal breaker.

So another thing I like to put the stove is it’s pressed out of one piece here most of the pot except for the lid, so there’s no seams to take in corrosion, moisture or anything like that. There’ll be no rust because it’s anodized alloys, so that’s it. The GSI, tea, kettles, I paid believe it was 1899, so 20 bucks pretty much if I ordered online with shipping. It’s about what it would cost to me anyway and I. Just I just came across this, so I wanted one actually truck and 86.

Well, YouTube user recommended one that he uses and I was going to get. That and I just happened to be in there and seen this one and it was around the same price. So I went for it, but that’s it. I’ll, take some stills too and in some future videos probably further shortly we’ll see how it works over the fire and I’ll. You know maybe I’ll just throw it in the video real quickly. All right, this is stick again: I, just I’ve put together a new cook system for me, a new kitchen to bring with me whenever I’m going out with with two people, I wanted to have something that was kind of a lot of weight than what I’ve currently got now so I’ve just kind of changed a few things up, also I’ve kind of gotten interesting here. Lately, an alcohol stove, so I’ve been kind of getting some of those to use with some of my cook pots and whatnot.

But anyway, what I’ve got here this morning is. This is actually a GSI how you like tea kettle, it’s inside of a stuff sack that I made to put it in just to kind of hold everything together when it’s in my pack to carry it with the stuff sack. It’s just made out of some 1 1 ounce rip stomp that I got at Walmart on the Clarence man and I used some of this mountain laurel designs.

Light line, I just have a bunch of that so I kind of cut some up and I use it to make a draw cord for the sack. But anyway, just kind of show you what all I got, and just so you know to everything for my cook kitchen is in here, except for my alcohol. This is a. This is just a bottle that came with my white box stove. When I got it, it holds four ounces. It’s got a flip top on it, so it’s a pretty nice little bottle to have pretty light weight.

Also I have a medicine cup and they used to weigh but I’m, starting to kind of get to where I can just kind of eyeball it and know about how much I’ve gotten my stove, but anyway, so just kind of show you what I got inside there and everything first off this stuff sack here. A lot of people say that they put rubber bands around the lid to kind of hold it on. I was just afraid that a rubber band might not hold up too well.

It might kind of slide off the side or something like that. So I made this stuff sank, and just so you know and my scales, my stuff sack weighs about point two ounces, so it doesn’t really weigh a whole lot and it doesn’t add a whole lot of a play to it. It does have a hand alone and I got the handle inside the lid. It doesn’t see it real firmly on again, that’s why I made this stuff sack and it’s got a little tab on here to pull it up and it’s got a silicone coated coating over handle searching on burnished off, so it makes it pretty nice right there.

Also the lid, it has a vent spout there. So, just in case you do decide to put something over the spout to kind of hold up a little pressure in there maybe make it boil just a tad bit faster. It will vent, so it won’t pop a cork out or something if you decide put something there anyway inside my cook point. The first thing I have is I. Have my bandana with my stove: this is the white box original stove.

It holds about three ounces of fuel. It only weighs one ounce, so it doesn’t weigh that much it’s a real, solid, sturdy stove. It’s got a rolled lip on it and it’s just a pretty tough style from what I’ve dealt with it so far, which hasn’t been a whole lot like say it holds about three ounces of fuel, though so you could really load this thing up and it’ll really cook for a long time, so that makes it good for whenever you have more than just one person.

So that’s why I’m using this on my my chips when I carry my wife or my son, or maybe even both, that just depends. So that’s my stove there inside here, I’ve just kind of got a little bit of all my fire starting stuff I’m, not necessarily going to keep all that inside there, I just have it in there for the moment. What I have in here, though, is I. Have some of the ariane storm proof matches those are really good matches.

You can actually stick them down in the water, fully submerge them in water. Pull them account. They’ll light right back up at the dew burn kind of fast, so you have to watch that I have just a regular small beak. Liner I have a scout model flat. My fire fire steel and I have just one single package of a wet fire tinder all that in the snack size, zip line, cuase, 2, 3 ounces, like I, say I, probably don’t need to carry all that and I’ll probably just refine this as I go, but for me, I’m happy with it for now and again, I won’t store it all in the same place.

I just have going here. Now you don’t want to put everything in the same place. Next thing I have in here is the windscreen to go around the the setup once I get it going. This is the windscreen that came with a white box stove. The windscreen is about four inches tall and measures. 20 30, 24 inches wide are long. Also there is a heat reflector in here. If I could get it out, see well you’re just gonna take my word for it: I’m not be pulling on the wrong one.

There is a heat reflector in there somewhere, it’s about that size right there. It just fits under the stove real well, you can bend the corners up on the heat reflector and it makes a priming pan as well. Also this one it does have the holes around the bottom, so it’ll, let ventilation in while you’re cooking so that that’s really good. It also has a paper clip on there as well to kind of hold it together.

The last thing I have here is my handle. I told you one of the reasons I made. My stuff sack is because, whenever I have the handle on here, it’s hard to get whenever I have my handle on here. Putting my stuff sack these little edges right here can kind of catch so that for that reason, I’ve just been putting it inside there just kind of make it easier. I may get some kind of rubber or something and put on the edges to protect the edges.

Like that I don’t know, I’m just gonna see how it goes. But anyway, one thing about this: I’ve noticed whenever the handle is up. You can’t really pull the lid off, yes, barely pull it up and then kind of slide it out. It’s a little bit to get it off. Some people complained about that and I’ve actually replaced the handle this handle also, it features the silicone coating over it to kind of help, keep it cool whenever you’re picking it up after it’s been sitting on a fire, but I have read a lot of reports where the handle the coating will actually mess.

I, don’t know if that’s because it’s sitting over on the pot, maybe while it’s cooking I, don’t know how that exactly goes, but anyway, I have read that so I’m gonna have to keep an eye on that and sound. That goes, but anyway, that’s my setup. Oh just so you’ll know also the kettle weighs in at five point nine ounces on my scale. So it’s not really that bad heavy.

It’s not super ultra lightweight, but it’s not bad heavy either. But it’s really nice it it balls fast. It brings a ball really fast and it’s really easy to pour and really easy to use, and also the opening is large enough to where, if you wanted to, you can actually and then you can actually use this as a bowl. So it does have quite a few options with the little kettle here, but anyway, this is the GSI how you like Kettle cost about 20 bucks.

You can find them on sale for cheaper, just depends on where you want to go and where you want to spend your money. I do recommend it. If you’re looking into a kettle I say it just seems to be a pretty solid kettle: the how you light from the 1 8 liter GSI cook pot that I’ve already had for about a year now it’s held up really well, and this is made of the same stuff, so I believe that’s going to hold up really well too so anyway.

This is my kitchen setup that I’ve gone for two or maybe three in a pinch, I just kind of wanted to show you a little bit about it and just kind of let you know about what kind of setup I’m using of course, I have different setups that I’m going to use when I go solo or just you know, depending on the condition, but anyway, if you’re looking into kettles or even, if you’re looking into alcohol stove for two or more people.

This is a really good stove to look into they’re they’re, pretty inexpensive to buy bill in Montana is the guy that sells them. He’s a he’s. A super nice guy he’s he’s helped me out already a lot between this stove and the solo stove, but anyway this is it and I appreciate you watching. Thank you.

Cattle cost me thirty four pound plan to use that on some solo trips. So if you’re interested I’ll take this over to the table, show you what the crack is. So this is just a quick review on the GSI outdoors. How do you like catalyst? It’s the catalyst to version the newer version, so I’ve made some revisions. It’s just quickly to go over. The specs I’ll hold that there. If you want to freeze it, but basically it’s a one liter kettle coming in at 321 grams design. For for one person out of the box, it comes in the mesh stuff suck the bottom part.

It’s solid. The top part is an open mesh, so that doesn’t mean if you’re, using this on a fire, it’s gonna stop the bottom, where it started up getting things dirty in your pack. So just opening this up kettle. This is quite nicely in the stuff sack your closer, so it does have the bail handle on the top, which does lock into place it folds down either way, I think on the second version they have made some revisions to this bail handle the first revision was a lot thinner and the handle came in at an angle and I’ve seen videos on YouTube, it’s quite difficult to get the lid off.

But in the case of this one it’s a lot easier. The handle itself on the lid is quite stiff and will stay in position, so you can even lift off if it’s hot, so stuff and look inside the kit does come with two bowls which nest together. So you’ve got the cup here with the neoprene sleeve and it does have a little cover on there keep your drinks warm spoke in there, so the cups themselves, they’ve both got markings inside up to 400 mil. What I would say is that the smaller one that is a cup that goes inside that’s going to be for your drink and if you cooking food in there you’re gonna have to make sure it’s quite clean before you put that in because it’s tight fit and you’ll see that sleeve would get dirty quite easily putting it in there.

So this one thing does have a little them place to drink from Allah a hole. This book itself. It comes with I, think he’s. A newer type of spoke doesn’t look quite firmly into position and quite a surprise. It does actually feel quite thick. Didn’t think I would ever use in that book is very light and probably will use that somewhere cattle itself. It has got fill point markings inside. You have to pick that up, but it’s marked in there for 250 mil under 500 mil and then 8 16 and 24 ounces.

So it’s the ideal size really. If you want to boil some water and perhaps enough to make a drink and then some noodles as well, the water at the mouth from there is actually quite wide. So it would be quite easy to fit noodles in there they’d fit and boil in there no problem in terms of options, and if you were to put the lid in first and you could nest 100 gram, fuel canister inside doesn’t really leave much room for for anything else. In there it may be possible to a compact stove in there, but so difficult to get the lid on, and if you were to lose the cups see there’s a lot more space in there.

You could quite easily get a fuel canister. Small stove and you’ve got a lot more space in there. If you just wanted to take that the cattle as it is would say about, the kettle is really. The maximum amount is to 24 ounces that you’d be able to fill up in there, because anything more you’re gonna be coming over whether we’re the sponsor is there. So you know all in all, I think I’ll, probably use as a kit. I might use these somewhere else. Certainly that would be ideal even for two to people.

If you wanted to boil just enough water to make a drink, they usually have the GSI cup as well I use separately to go with that yeah. Any questions leave it in the comments and I’ll be happy to answer them for you thanks right, so I’m just set up just to give this a quick test. I’ve got some chilli noodles to cook up along with a galaxy hot chocolate. It’s one of my favorite drinks to have one of my hiking usually takes over them with me, so the noodles need about 250 ml of water, which there is the measurement in the kettle for that.

So just fill that up. Okay, that’s about 250 ml I’ll, often feel much of what I’m the cook usually have about. Half a cup that I just get a boil game with that I’ll provide a lighter, does sit quite securely on top of you save right, so wait till US finished and come back when that’s finished boiling. Well, that didn’t take too long. We’ve got a good boil going steam shooting out so see. If we can lift that yep, that’s not too hot. You can lift that with fingers, see up well, the pop laws have two noodles in here: first, they fit in no problem, leave them to cook for a while.

That’s the hot shop alone. They go use. The included spoon, yes, I’m, quite impressed with that. Obviously, it’s not going to be that easy to eat after that, because you haven’t got the traditional handles on the side, have to fold up down, probably place it on something and to eat out, but I’ll, let them steam away and I love the seasoning in a bit later. I’ll put that back on the stove again just to help speed it up. I’m going to add in the season in though, what sauce a little stirring smells good, actually IMing, just gonna add in a little bit of her bring the pain sauce so do like it nice and hot yeah.

This stuff is really quite hot. That’s looking good now so I’m gonna sit and enjoy these in the garden Cheers.

What’s up guys Devin here with backcountry exposure, I have on the table a really cool piece of cookware that I’ve been excited about for a while, and this is the GSI outdoors, how you light kettle, which is a tea kettle, that they show on their website. But it’s a one quart kettle that is perfect for somebody. That is just really wanting to boil water out in the backcountry, and if you need to boil several cups of water at one time, then you’ve got something that is really lightweight for this for the size and allows you to boil a lot of water at once, so that you can be cooking a lot of like dehydrated meals for several people at one time.

So we’re just gonna go really simple through this product it doesn’t have a lot of things about it that need to be talked about. But what is important about this is the weight is five point: eight ounces, so just shy of 6 ounces. You’ve got a really big nice sized 1 quart tea kettle, and that is a true 1 quart. You can actually get all of that into the kettle and it’s not like gonna overflow, which is a nice thing.

Sometimes companies or brands say that it’s this size, but that’s like to the very max, but you can get a full quart in this, which is really nice. So what this is made out of is a hard anodized aluminum and they say that it’s made from a proprietary material, but really it’s just an aluminum that is super lightweight. It’s pretty thin, but it’s nice and durable I haven’t had any problems with it in the pack.

So far, I did get like a little small dent, but overall the the quality of this is done really. Well. Let’s talk about the one thing that I don’t really love about. It, though, and that is how you have to pull the lid off so notice that when I grab up and pull see, if I can do it from this side, I grabbed up and pulled I can’t get much higher than this. And the reason is the bail on the kettle has a angle to it, and so, if you’re dealing with like a fire or a hot heat source, you have to like only pull it up a little bit and then slide it out.

So what I’ve seen people do in some other videos and just experiences seeing other people is, they will replace this bale with a piece of wire that is more u-shaped and makes it easier to get the lid on and off, especially if you’re going to be using this in a fire. This coated material, like plastic material, is gonna melt in a fire, so something to keep in mind but yeah. The lid is nice and fits in there really really well, it doesn’t have like anything to lock it in, but you’ve got a nice hole right here to allow to to vent so that the lid doesn’t like pop off, while it’s boiling really good construction of this.

Just really well-made I, like it what’s great about this, is you do have enough space inside here that if you are going to be using a stove, there’s a 100 gram, fuel canister and then I have my oli camp iron micro stove, and that fits in there just fine, which this thing is like super tiny. If you’ve watched other videos, I did a review on this recently, but really really tiny, stove and you’d be able to get like a pocket rocket or something in there.

Probably if it wasn’t in its case, though so something to keep in mind, but overall, it’s a really great product that just functions. Well, there’s nothing to lock the lid down so when you are transporting it in your backpack. This is how it goes, so you might consider putting a rubber band over top of this, but yeah. It does pour just fine, some, no problems with that. The lid does stay on when you’re doing that.

You can easily put your hand on the the lid there, but overall it’s a really great product. The the boil time on this is is pretty good, because the heat transfer of the aluminum actually transfers the heat around the whole product really well. So, when you have a little tiny stove like this and that’s sitting on top of it, then you’re going to have a really good heat distribution because of what this is made out of so overall really happy with the product.

It’s fantastic, like I, said it’s really great for multiple people that would need to fill more than one meal for a mountain house, and you can boil a lot of water at once, so it pretty specific use, I, wouldn’t really cook out of this, but overall it’s great and I love, Geo sized products and what they what they manage to put out there for the backpacker and the average consumer. Everybody I want to do a quick update on a piece of kit. The GSI high loot kettle. It comes with a very thick steel wire handle in the handle, only comes up about this high and then you have a little a little indentation to hanging over a stick or something like that, and it was covered in a a rubber surface. Apparently to help you prevent your hand from getting burnt. Should you pick it up from the fire? Well, the first time out using it on a fire, not on my just my little can or anything a burn can or anything like that.

It got hot enough to melt that this. This coating protection right here. It didn’t melt on the on the lid top here that worked out quite well, but it did on the handle and there’s another problem too. When your system excuse me suspending it over a fire. Is that when you go to take it off, it was so close to this that you couldn’t help but knock it, and what would happen is once it was hanging. You’d go like this and you’d sort of splash in hot water, and it does take some effort once you put it on to get it back off again, as you can see so, I wanted to fix that issue and I got rid of that other one, because I don’t want the hassle of every time.

Just you know. Delica lee delicately tapping this off to get this off, to see if I got water boiling yourself, so I removed that one with a a bit thinner wire, and this is actually a coat hanger and, of course you can see I bent into shape- and this is so far worked out hell of a lot better now that handle and I. Also these right here, the the joints here, where you connect your lawyer to I’ve, actually brought those out about a quarter of an inch piece.

So now that lid comes off and it’s got plenty of room to move, I won’t have that issue anymore. Now, what I was saying is I really like this kettle and other than that small issue I had with the handle, which others may not mind. I still recommend. It’s just it’s too, it’s too light and works to efficiently into well for me to not recommend it so other than this. This little modification I’ve made I’m still endorsing this product.

Hey guys, it’s chef now today, I’ve got $9 kettle I bought on Aliexpress. The catalyst is a kettle that is designed to be lightweight to take with you backpacking, if you’re, using it to heat water for anything, whether it’s a drink or whether it’s a freeze-dried meal. So let’s talk about the catalyst first, the catalyst is not just a kettle: it has a lid, it’s got the bail / handle, and it also has some nesting cups or bowls.

Each of these bowls hold about a cup and a half too close to two cups of water and the second one has a neoprene sleeve to insulate your hand and a lid with a small opening to be able to drink water on it. It also has a telescoping spoon which is really convenient. It fits all inside one great package and even comes with a handy carrying bag, and the $9 kettle doesn’t come with all that.

It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles it has a bag. Okay, and it’s just the kettle with a lid, it does have a handle on it. That works pretty well. The handle is pretty rigid wherever you set, it can stay, but it’s nice because you don’t hear any rattling sounds when you’re using it both the GSI catalyst and the $9 kettle have little tabs on the list.

So you can remove the lids really easily with the gsi kettle. You can actually remove the handle altogether, plus it adds a little arch in the middle of the handle, so you can use it as a veil to be able to hang it over something if you’re cooking over over a fire or over wood. The big difference between the two is we dimension.

Both of them are pretty similar in height, but as far as width, the catalyst has a way wider opening way bigger mouth up at the top, which is great because then you can fit those bowls inside and things like that with the $9 kettle, you can fit about to the size of a can of almonds inside. If you want to use that at the cup, which I do often there’s a little bit difference in thickness to the GSI Coase is a little thinner when it comes to the $9 kettle.

It is less, it weighs about five point: three: five ounces versus the GSI catalyst, which is about 6 ounces. If you’re planning on bringing along the extranet in bowls, they do weigh about three and a half ounces. In comparison, small can of almonds weighs about 1 45 ounces. The $9 kettle holds about 3 cups of water.

In fact, I poured three cups in exactly and I could see some water coming up to the base of the spout, so I stopped filling it up there. The catalyst is a little bit bigger. I thought it was a lot bigger just based on looking at the dimensions and the whole thing up at the top, but because of the location where the spout is on the catalyst you can’t fill it up to its max capacity.

Kind of like you can with the $9 kettle. So I poured all three cups in from the $9 kettle into the catalyst and then I tried to put in another cup, but I only got to a half of a cup before the water came really really close to the top of the spout where it was about to spill. So only about 1/2 of a cup difference in total water volume you can fit into two of them, so I would say advantage catalyst barely when it comes to both of these.

They both work. Great, the water tastes, the same coming out of them. I didn’t get a weird taste out of it. They are both fantastic to use, they’re, really lightweight and they’re, something I’m, probably going to use in my backpacking trips this summer.
