Hey there just wanted to do a quick. Review on the smith vantage helmet that. I have here and just share my thoughts. And what i think about it i picked up this helmet this past season. Of the 2014-15 season and was looking. For something new that was had a bit better fit as well as was a bit safer. Previously was using a burn can’t. Remember which one the classic one without the vents but just felt that the. Fit wasn’t correct and wanted something. That was just a little more subtle and. Safer so i ended up taking a look at. This and picking this up for a pretty good deal i think this helmet usually retails around 179 or $200 but pretty. Good deal i think next year will be about 220 to 225 somewhere around there. I would guess or 250 if you choose to. Pick one up with the mips system which. If you’re looking for this helmet for this coming season of 1516 then i would. Highly recommend if you can to get one. With the mips integration it is a fantastic system and really i. Think worthwhile but it’s not about the. Technology helmet just remember it’s. About the fit so enough traveling and. Let’s get on to the helmet so this one has this is their sort of black mat it’s. A matte finish with these the green. Events although when you close them up their black like that and then on the. Back you got a little bit of a vantage logo as well as some stripes and stuff here and then on the ear pads you’ve got this mesh material almost serve a suite here this is the ky. Record i believe that’s how you pronounce it or I’m not sure exactly. Logo but I’ll talk about that in a. Minute and then some sort of almost rubberized material here even more so. Like a like realm with this kind of odd material and then move around back here. You’ve got your helmet strap here and. Then you’ve got a little leather piece. For the helmet strap as well as your boa adjuster which will also show you additionally in a minute and then up here you’ve got your two controls for. The vents and then plenty events right here these four right here stay open all. The time although i don’t think that’s. An issue and then on the sides here you. Got some more stripes and then coming around the front you got your smith logo and all that and then here’s your. Chinstrap pretty comfortable chinstrap and there’s the inside which I’ll get to. In a minute um on the front here I’ve added a go pro. Mount and drink water sticker but yeah. Other than that it’s got the chi record. System or if you put a material in. The vents and you can sort of see it in. Here maybe a bit better and it’s sort of. Like a bunch of straws almost glued. Together really smart system because usually when a company puts events in they don’t have much of anything to put in there and that can sometimes compromise the structural. Integrity of the helmet making it not as. That sort of impact resistant and whatnot the construction i believe on this is one of those i think they call it in mold or something I’m not sure what smith exactly calls it but it’s. Where they this is a very thin layer on. Maybe not this but this all this here is thin and it’s sort of molded to the foam if i can pull this out you can see there’s the foam in there and that’s usually tends to be a really. Good system because it’s lighter and. Generally from what i understand works. Quite well and allows them to make the. Helmets quite strong wears additionally while still additionally. Having vents the but the you know it’s. Not your classic system where there’s a if you look at me be like a classic protect skateboard helmet it’s got a sort. Of hard plastic on the outside sometimes a bit flexible and then it’s got foam on the inside where it’s this usually when it’s when it’s hit it’s hit but for the. Most part i have taken a little bit of a. Hit on the summit i believe yeah i was right here just didn’t do it trees a little bit you probably can’t see it too. All the old stuff there i took a look. Quite a good look at it and i came to. The conclusion that the structural integrity was not compromised. And it was in an odd spot it wasn’t as. Fun i was too worried about but you can. See here the foam the area foam is quite thick so you do get a lot of foam. And i looked in the phone was not sort of looking to be crushed or anything that might scare me away from using. It again so then you’ve got other things. You’ve got you’ve got these two vents here for goggle ventilation so your goggles don’t fog up and when I’ve used. I’ve used it in all sorts of different temperatures i haven’t had issues with goggles fogging up even with my burn. Helmet with a brim i didn’t have goggles issues with goggles fogging yep and i. Used a dragon and effects toggle as well as a Oakley crowbar pending more so the. Dragons though and then you’ve got. Plenty events on the top here now this. If you push this one here it closes your. Front lens up here then you push your back one get your backgrounds you can. Also how the vents half open if you choose to and i find it’s pretty easy to. Do these while the helmet is on your no issues with that gives plenty of ventilation i always find that i have the vents open just a bit really is nice. Really helps you stay warm and layer. Properly because you’re able to relieve heat in the way you want yeah and then. They’ve got this weird steam thing here and it’s part of the whole hahnemann’s design I’m not sure if it’s ecstatic or. If it’s an actual function behind it the. Goggle integration i thought was really great on this helmet because it’s all flat brim under here or flat here and. Then the brim just sticks out a little bit so it really does work quite. Well to help keep your goggles on there. And then additionally the goggles come down nice right there and then. Your pads and everything are quiet. Comfortable i don’t think these are. Maybe these are the you can put a sound. System in them I’m not sure i usually just wear it your phone i can apple earbuds so that’s not an issue yeah i. Think again because you unzip all the. Way around with this zipper I’m not gonna do that though the kellman’s. Really comfortable it’s got the boa fit system which means you can really just dial down the fit quite quite well. Although i will say that I’ll show you. Here. You. And then put the helmet in the bag and. Then put it in another bag and i find that really works quite well and then. Let’s see what else and then these are the cartel so I’ll just show you these are dragon and effects goggles and you. Can just I’ll just pull this around here so if you just look at the back here you. Can just insert the gargle cuz it’s kind. Of tricky but to do right now because there we go sorry trying to do my best. To help me see the video here and then. You pull this down and then just put straps down and then there we go. And you can sort of see they sit quiet. Nicely on top there, and then they’ll go underneath them there we go there we go. They integrate quite well especially if you make sure you up the straps on either sides are pulled up and. Mask on this one comes with a really cool hunter liner you can get it with a regular winter liner or this hunter liner it’s got loads of vents so it. Keeps you nice and cool gold clip on the back can be worn high up here or low. Down depending on where you like to wear. Your goggles shop it’s also got a channel on the inside so if you like to wear your goggles on the inside your helmet there’s plenty of room for that this comes in two construction types you. Get the hardhat version which has brock foam and you get the fin shall eps version we’ve got another video explaining the differences between all the constructions so if you’re not sure which one to go for make sure you check that one out lineup here this is the like i said the hunter liner so you get this really cool flap at the front and extra long ear. The entire goggle you’re also going to have a lens change color most likely so. With that being said different lenses are going to be good for different things so writing in the day versus the night is going to be totally different so make sure that you scroll down on those and goggle pages and check out the vlt chart based on the lens that the. Goggle that you want comes with so the lower the number the darker the goggle so say a dark smoked lens would be a. Very low percentage gonna be really great for those super sunny days with that bright snow not super great for night riding whereas a clear lens might. Be something like 85% so a very high number gonna be really great for a night riding maybe not as much for those snowing days so these specifically. Have a very dark lens on them so not so great for night riding really great for day riding out west especially, and they have a really killer design super fl orally on the inside with actually some skulls so it’s kind of different there on the dead we have kind of black pattern finish on. These too so it’s not just a black strap it’s got a little bit more something sassy to it and just a really cool subtle design on the frame as well um. And with these we have a full perimeter channel venting so that’s gonna help keep the air faux air flow going through these and really help with the anti-fog technology too, and then we have that cylindrical shape for these lenses I’m. And that’s really gonna help with the peripheral vision of these you can really tell it mimics kind of the natural curvature of the human eye and.
