Happier camper called fern and welcome to another episode of fern the camper. Today we will be reviewing some hiking boots, not my favorite of most hiking boots, but hiking boots that you can actually take to the snow and mountains with you and stay toasty warm. So these are nice beautiful snow boots, I had them from when I went to Iceland I was very concerned about cold feet because I have terrible circulation and usually my toes go numb if the temperature dips below 40 Fahrenheit I know totally wimpy right.

So these were the boots I took to Iceland with me, the company is called Columbia. It’s a very well known, good company. Very reputable and I expected my feet to stay warm based on the reviews. I saw on Amazon where I purchased these, but what I didn’t expect was for them to be so good. As hiking boots, I ended up scrambling quite a lot over rocks through waterfalls. There was a lot of activity to be had, and these were so toasty warm. They had a really good grip on on the surface, whether it was a steep incline, whether it was mossy just for reference.

I did stay on the official trails. I didn’t go through the wilderness, which was protected, but these would have done fine there as well, so they do come in a few different colors I liked this sort of heather gray with the white trim, and if you can see inside there it they are really lightweight. These are the first snow boots. I’ve had that had been so lightweight, so I was not expecting them to be so supportive when I was hiking and again they kept my feet, really warm and insulated in really cold cold conditions.

The laces held up really well considering some of the places we were going. We’re super muddy and I’ve cleaned them off quite a lot, but you can still see some of our sort of trekking mud. They have a really good tread on the bottom for grip and don’t let the top part of the boot fool you. You do have a really good ankle support in these, and it’s just like a good lightweight, hiking boot, but with little extra levels of insulation. So I like this clothing, sort of down the side- and these have been my go-to for any cold place- I’ve had them for about three years now.

I know people will be producing some really beautiful, new hiking boots and if you’re after the next big newest shiniest thing, these are a few years old in design. But if you want something, that’s rather cheap and highly cheerful. That will get you through the snow, with toasty warm, toes and good ankle support. Hey guys, it’s easy for today’s video I’m days ago, I was in Tahoe and I really was need of a good pair of boots. It went on to Amazon and a bunch of other just boot places looked up a bunch of different types of boots and I honestly couldn’t find any reviews on YouTube about some good ones. So I decided to make one for you all today, but the needing to go to the store with my family at night and I didn’t have any pair of boots, so I actually borrowed some of my family friends and those worked.

Awesome I figured that they were a Columbia boot that was the brand, so I looked it up online and found a pair of boots and ordered them off of Amazon, so I have the boots. Today they are right here and I thought I would unbox them and give my little review on it. I have two of the reviews on this channel. So I thought why not do another one. So without further ado, let’s just get started. So this is the box. It is about the size of the frame. It is huge and it’s just really pretty blue color, actually I’m, not seeing these I promise. I have not opened them yet. I, literally just got them in the mail five minutes ago. Here is what they look like when I just open them up, I’m gonna, take them out and I’m just going to be how they feel when I put them on and that type of stuff here are the boots.

They are so cute. I act, they’re cuter in person than I imagined, and it’s really cool because they have this grip at the bottom. And if you have ever been to the snow, then you know the ice can get really slippery. So this is awesome. They are the perfect length too. I actually thought that any really tall but they’re honestly super awesome, like this fur is the whole inside is.

This is what the front looks like it. Just straps up see these little straps. You can tighten it and overall I. Just think these are so cute, they are waterproof, snow proof, rain, proof all of that type of prove I’m, going to try them on and see how they feel and let you guys know that I think they said the sizing they run extremely small, so I ordered a weight, bigger size.

Okay, so I have one on my foot right now and it is so comfortable to walk around in they are so soft and it dictate really good I definitely recommend if you’re going to get a boot like this off of the Columbia website or just boots off of Amazon and you’re, not sure exactly what size you may be, for these I’ve definitely get a full site up. So if I was nine out of ten you’re five against six just try and get size up because they run pretty small overall, these are so cute and I love them a lot.

How do you know this is a serious winter boot, because it’s rated down the negative 25 degrees, Fahrenheit North I got that rating by putting 200 grams of Thermolite insulation in here, along with a removable felt liner, both those things combined to keep your feet, toasty warm all winter long.

That lining is also super soft and top of this great shirt material. To add that little bit of extra comfort and all in a great winter boot keeping your feet warm is the most important thing and part of keeping your feet. Warm is keeping your feet. Dry northside used this great sealed rubber bottom, which keeps out water and they waterproof this new buck and suede upper. So no matter what no snow or sleet will get into this boot northside also included a great grip on this -.

It has really deep lugs and it’s great for wet and slippery conditions. As far as sizing goes, I do think this boots runs very true to size. All in all, I think this is a great winter boot. So yeah we have a really wide range of three season boots that are extremely capable, really lightweight a lot of really awesome. Technologies been invested in these boots to make them as comfortable and lightweight and durable as possible and there’s a huge selection of boots depending on your objectives, so definitely something for for every everyone, so the trango tower extreme in the trango tower are fairly new to the LA Sportiva line.

The tower extreme is a fully rigid boot, so it’s it’s gonna ice climb, a lot better! It’s gonna provide a little bit more support. The trango tower is going to be basically an updated version of the old trango s evo. The the red boots that everyone’s so familiar with this is going to be a little bit lighter a little bit warmer and a little bit more durable, basically just trying to continue the evolution of the triangle- s evo with this boot.

This is gonna, be a little bit warmer a little bit stiffer and it’s gonna climb ice a little bit better. This can take crampons, but not fully rigid crampons. So you, you can’t really do any technical niceties. I mean you could try, but it wouldn’t be very successful, so yeah the the toe bells, different, totally different, sole way more layers on the bottom as well. You can see so yeah. You would not be able to flex this boot at all.

This is gonna, be a lot more comfortable on a long approach. This. This is more designed to do a really steep terrain where you need your foot totally flat and you don’t want to be flexing your foot over and over and over again. This is going to support your entire body weight. So these these break in significantly and get pretty comfy and then the lighter version of the trango Tower. Is the triangle cube. So this is the triangle cube.

This is the trango tower the trango cubes going to be a little bit lighter. It also has less materials going into the build, so there’s less stitching involved, there’s less areas that could potentially fail with use over time. So this is actually a little bit lighter I think it’s a little bit more comfortable same last, so the fits gonna feel pretty identical your going to pay a little bit more, but I think regarding performance.

It’s going to be a lot better. It also has a really cool adjustable tongue on the inside and that that really lets you dial in the fit and where you want the pressure coming from on top of your foot, you can also remove it at the end of the day. If your foot swells a lot, you feel like you need some extra room, it’s nice to pull out the tongue. It also absorbs a lot of moisture, so you can help dry, the boot a little bit faster if you pull the tongues out.

So that’s that’s a really nice feature on the Q, but aside from that, pretty much the same boot it’s gonna feel and perform just about the same. This is just gonna, be a little bit more durable and a little bit lighter weight, both really really great three-season alpine boots, but these are the trango tex. So this this has a totally different shape from anything else. In the line. It’s got more of a blunt, rounded toe box, I think that’s gonna fit a lot of people really really nicely.

It feels more like a lightweight approach like guide level shoes, so I think guides that are taking people out on Rock are really really going to like the is fourth class scrambling I think these are going to be preferred, they’re, also gore-tex, so they’re waterproof, which really expands their application. It has a really nice climbing zone built into the front of the boot there, so I think they’re gonna edge nicely they’ll jam nicely extremely lightweight.

I think these are going to do extremely well kind of an extension of the approach category into the mountaineering category, gonna breathe the best I would say out of the entire mountaineering line. These are. These are gonna feel like they’re they’re, the most breathable they’re, the lightest they’re, not gonna, be as warm for those reasons they don’t have as much insulation, so more designed for I would say, like spring/summer kind of high alpine environments, when, when you’re, not climbing, with climbing shoes on by doing 14, errs and fourth class scrambling and basically anything where you, you need to be prepared for encountering lots of different kinds of weather like afternoon, storms and things of that nature for, like totally mixed conditions, where it’s kind of more unpredictable- and you might be out for a few days- and you only want to bring one piece of footwear.

The very first time on this channel, I have finally la sportiva boots for a review. Now I cannot tell you how many times las portivo boots were requested, and finally, we do have the very popular from la sportiva, tx4 mid gtx hiking boots, and I am very excited to do this review. Let me tell you guys overall, absolutely fantastic, but I really really do like it for longest time. I thought that the most comfortable, the best outsole, was the salomon, but these are a very, very serious competition for salmon.

If you are considering between the two, it’s a really really tough choice. Trust me, these are fantastic, they’re, lightweight, they’re, extremely comfortable. They are waterproof. This gtx waterproofing definitely does the job. The outsole is extremely flexible. It’s very easy to for for pretty much any kind of terrain, and you get amazing stability and traction with this awesome, outsole overall, fantastic one thing that I wanted to mention is: they do run a little bit on the smaller side.

So if you’re considering them get yourself at least half a size bigger than your normal size that you would get in the boots, but we’ll talk about this later and I do have a few minor complaints whenever it comes to the lacing system. But again this is later in the review. If you want to find out, definitely stick around. So, as some of you already know, this review specifically for my ultimate survival boots section.

So if this wasn’t just your regular hiking boot, but you were hiking around in this booth and something terrible happened, I don’t know. 2020 probably gave you a lot of ideas for possible terrible scenarios, so just think of some kind of survival situation where you have to continue walking and maybe run somewhere along the way and maybe even fight to survive climb, do whatever is necessary right in the survival situation.

In order to save yourself, would these be good boots for survival? So how do we make the judgment? We make the judgment based on eight different criteria, if you guys are ready, let’s begin criteria number one, of course the comfort level. Yes. Now, in order to test the comfort level, I do for all of the boots equally the same test. It’s a three mile run without stopping and then a five mile walk without any pauses in between pretty hard.

Eight miles have to cover. Sometimes that’s really really hard uh, but that allows me to make the judgment I I know some of the boots that I reviewed they’re, not really you wouldn’t normally run in them. For example, something like this, you might use as a trail running shoes right, so they might be applicable whenever it comes to running, but sometimes I review work boots and it’s really weird to run in wordpress, obviously because they’re not designed to run.

But what that allows me to do is that allows me to make a fair judgment whenever it comes to the comfort level, because it’s a three mile run five mile walk the total wear time after I’m done with that. I continue wearing until the total wear time is about seven to eight hours so like a full work shift or like a full day of hiking. So to have that very very you know close results right and judge judge properly uh.

So, like I said these boots, they are unbelievably comfortable. I absolutely love the comfort level of these boots and there are a few factors. Of course, the very first one. One of them right would be um either makes it or breaks it the weight. So, let’s, let me tell you exactly how heavy these boots are and these for this, this specific one is a size 10 by the way and as you can see, 16 7 now, in order to give you a reference number, I always say that if you want the boots that don’t slow you down with the weight right, you can wear them for extended periods of time.

I’m talking about you know, 10 miles 15 miles a day. You can run on them and not get fatigued from the weight on your foot, because you will get fatigue from running anyway, but not from the weight of the boot. You want something that is under 20 ounce and the more under 20 ounces. It is the the the easier it is to run and walk for extended periods of time in this booth. 16 ounce is very, very impressive for the mid-size boot, with a pretty good protection, which we will talk about later with waterproofing gtx waterproofing, which we will talk about later, is very, very impressive, 16 ounce and, of course, that lightness is one of the things that contributes to comfort.

There are a few other things, however, that contribute to the comfort level, like I’ve mentioned in the beginning, the flexibility of the bottom sole. I mean just just look at that, look, how flexible it is and what that allows you to do, especially whenever you’re running it allows you to run properly without putting the stress on your ankles, without putting the stress on your knees, and I have to say la sportiva- did absolutely fantastic, fantastic job with this outsole.

There are a few other comfort factors that contribute to the comfort comfort factors that contribute to the comfort, the inner soul. Of course, let’s get on the inside and, as you can see yes, this is my favorite ortholite. I do absolutely love the ortholite now the salomon boots that I mentioned in the beginning. They implement ortholite pretty much in all of their boots. Uh. However, here, as you can see, this is not just your regular flat ortholite inner sole.

No, it actually has a very, very good shape to it. There’s a very good arch support and I do like it now- it comes down to being a fit right. Preference of fitment some people do prefer this kind of fit some people don’t. But for me this this was absolutely perfect and I think it’s uh. It has some pretty decent amount of jelliness. Now, after we remove the inner sole, we don’t have any other layers of cushioning. However, I have to mention that this vibram outsole this layer of it before it goes into this very hard rubber.

This is very soft and actually does very good job taking on the impact, especially whenever you’re running now, a lot of boots to help you understand, most of the outsole is just a hard robber, and this is not the case here. This kind of helps with the impact, but there is one other important thing that I wanted to mention here. That contributes a lot to the comfort level. Look at the cushioning that was implemented into the tongue into the shaft and here on the inside as well.

Now it seems like a regular cushioning in most of the booths. However, this is actually a very jelly, and this is the first time this is the first time on this channel. I reviewed hundreds of boots, and this is the first time I see someone using this jelly type of cushioning. I see it all the time on the inner sole, but not in the tongue and the shaft. I think that was a absolutely fantastic idea that la sportiva implemented here.

It makes it feel really really good, really really contributes to the comfort and the last thing that I wanted to mention: it’s not really something that contributes or takes away from the comfort, because it’s more of a personal preference, but these boots do sit very tight on your feet. They create that nice wraparound feeling which, which I do like a lot, because it helps you with the support a lot now for some people that tight fit might not be of their preference.

So that’s why I’m saying it’s more of a preference, but this is a tighter fit. I absolutely like it uh. If you like, a more open toe box right, more loose or wider fit, you might might want to consider some other options out there, but overall, on the comfort level, this boot, I would give an absolutely 100 solar, 10 out of 10 without even thinking and just to give you how just just give you kind of like a reference how hard it is to get.

There was only one other boot that I gave a 10 out of 10 and that was the salomon x ultra 3, mid gtx. That is my best ultimate survival boot of 2019, which I’ve done the video. If you want to check it out, I’m this impressed with the comfort level. But let’s move on to the criteria. Number two, the proofing and protection like I said: gtx waterproofing, a very popular waterproofing technology. A special membrane, basically, what it does is it’s not unique to la sportiva, a lot of hiking boots and a lot of work boots a lot of tactical military boots.

They implement gore-tex, it’s a very popular waterproofing system that allows for the lightweight and at the same time, breathability right and gives you that waterproofing, so special membrane implemented into the fabric. I do like it personally a lot of experienced professional hikers out there. They prefer gore-tex waterproofing. So it’s pretty good. The only downside of gore-tex is that whenever you see this, gortex level expect the boot to be on the pricier side.

Yes, okay, but let’s talk about the protection now, like I said, is very, very sufficient amount for this light of the boot there’s very, very sufficient amount of uh protection uh. I do love this harder rubber on the front of the toe. Now this is not the rubber that will protect you from. I don’t know a weight plate falling on your foot or something like that right. This is still very soft, but on the rocky road small racks, this is really good to have on the hike.

Of course, you notice this fabric. This is a harder uh fabric compared to this one going along the sides, and that gives you some protection as well and, of course, in the shaft you do have that jelly material. I think it’s a pretty good for a mid-sized lightweight boot. I think this is perfect and, of course, your heel uh is a little bit uh reinforced, not by a lot. It’s still soft, but you do have a little bit from this um heavier fabric on the bottom.

So on the proofing and protection, great proofing, waterproofing, perfect, waterproofing, right uh, you do have a harder rubber from the bottom. That kind of helps you with some protection from sharp objects. But overall, this is more on the lighter side compared to something heavier bulkier, with some a lot of protection to offer. Let’s move on to the criteria. Number three quality and the design features now quality wise, I mean la sportiva.

They know what they’re doing, obviously absolutely phenomenal booths they have been around. They have been making hiking uh boots for a while. They make professional, climbing um shoes, and I mean a lot of professional climbers. Uh prefer la sportiva shoes I mean the last portion is, is definitely the trusted brand and if you check out on amazon uh, you will find a lot of a lot of good reviews on la sportiva boots and shoes in in general.

Now, whenever it comes to the design features. Usually here I talk about the lacing system, and this is where I had a little a few minor complaints uh. First of all, I am not the biggest fan of these fabric hooks now they kind of first of all, they kind of give me a little bit of an insecurities that one of this is going to snap. This is just a personal. Psychological thing might not be the case, but one thing that is real.

That is a fact, is that the strings do not slide very easily through these fabric hooks, and it is harder to tighten the strings proportionally and if you are into some more or less uh serious hiking. You probably do know how important it is to have. You know that ability to tighten everything proportionately and, at the same time tighten everything fast and uh. You know in survival situation. That might be very important if you want to put the boots on quickly.

I do like these hooks on the top. Unfortunately, they they do lock, but they don’t really lock in place. They still slide out, but they don’t fall out. So I wish that they, besides locking in here I wish that they also locked in place over here again for the purposes of setting different tension in the shaft compared to uh the body of the boot. But let’s move on to the criteria. Number four, my favorite one here with this boot, the outsole traction and stability.

Now some of you guys already know who been watching my videos in order to test the outsole traction stability, I run and walk on a variety of different surfaces. I start on older asphalt go into the newer tarmac. Then I go into the sand. Dry sand, wet sand, dry grass, wet grass trail, surface rocky road, and then I finish up on some marble and tiles or some shiny surfaces, and let me tell you guys: this outsole performs very, very good on pretty much everything now compared to the vibram outsole from salomon.

This is a little bit on the flatter side. I think I almost wish there was a little tiny bit more aggression, even though I am completely satisfied with it. I think a little bit more aggression would have been nicer and the only reason why I think more aggression is because the design, the outsole design that was implemented here on the front, is this round one. However, I have to say compared to solomon. These boots perform much better on the flat shiny surfaces like marble and tile.

I think they were not really designed for that, but because of the design, they are very, very stable on flat surfaces, they almost kind of stick to the flat surface. I mean you can run on on the tile without any problems, without being afraid that you’re going to sleep is just very, very good overall, absolutely fantastic. Outsole and making all of this, this flexible, very impressive, absolutely great job. Last portiva.

One thing I wish they implemented here again, not designed for this, but it would have been a nice plus some ridges on the side here to help with the climbing, if you’re, climbing a rope climbing a tree that would be nice but we’ll see, maybe in uh tx4 2 0 right. Let’s move on to the criteria. Number five temperature. Now whenever it comes to colder temperatures, obviously I wasn’t testing them in the colder temperature, because these are not really designed for winter or anything like that.

They don’t have any kind of insulation, even though they are waterproof, so they probably would be pretty good in the snow uh very decent outsole for snow, not for the eyes, because you know you do need some spikes and something very, very aggressive for the eyes uh, but they are very light. The material fabric is very light, so you will be cold, so I tested them here in florida it was about 100 degrees and in the hot weather.

This is definitely what I would pick uh very breathable, even though they’re waterproof, very, very breathable, I think perfect for a hot weather, hike and everything else in between uh in this in the spring in the fall, I think they would be just absolutely fantastic. I mean I, I really do love this boot all right. So, let’s talk about the criteria. Number six really quickly the sizing like I said they do run a little bit on the smaller side.

Aside um. Now, usually I say that if you, if you have you know, if your normal shoe size right and your dress shoes, your sneakers, whatever size, nine, you want to get your boots, whether it’s hiking boots military boots work with whatever get them in half a size, bigger, nine and a half. So you can have a little bit of extra space. It will prevent a lot of unnecessary fatigue. Trust me, this is a good advice that I got from one of my friends who does hiking pretty much full time and that just little tip you know saved me from you know all of the unnecessary discomfort whenever you’re walking or standing or doing whatever in the boots for extended periods of time.

However, because these do run on a smaller side, I would recommend going a whole size bigger to have that extra little space, all right down with the sizing. Let’s move on to the criteria number seven now the balance of application. So basically, if these shoes right boots really were your ultimate survival boots, you were hiking or they were just sitting in the house and something bad happened: war natural disaster, whatever uh the presidential candidate, not the one you expected, won the election, and now you have to leave your house and- and I don’t know, walk to somewhere else across the border to mexico to escape right.

Would this be a good good boots? After all of this review right? Would they be good? I honestly think they would be freaking, fantastic. Honestly, that’s on the top of my list. I wish I had these boots. I I wish I had this boots laying around in my house. So if I have to walk to mexico, I can freaking do it in this booth because they’re this comfortable. They are this lightweight, just just a fantastic freaking boot I mean just get them in the right size so that you have a little bit of that extra space and you’re good.

I mean you’re not going to be disappointed. They even match my hiking pants somehow from colombia. It was this orange drive. I don’t know how that happened, but it happened overall. I think this is really really fantastic, but la sportiva did an amazing job now. The very last criterion here is the price, and this things get a little bit scary. Unfortunately, but I warned you because, with the gore-tex, it comes a little bit of an on a half-tier price tag.

I mean, besides the boot being this good. You also have gore-tex, so the price is currently 190 dollars, uh, depending on where you find them. It can go from about 170 up to about 230. So the link for the amazon is in the description below. If you want to check it out some pr. Sometimes the price goes down there. So if you want to save it in your saved list and be alerted when the price goes down, you can do that.

I personally think the price is a little bit on an expensive side. All right. I think this is a fantastic boot. Don’t get me wrong? It’s amazing amazing boot! You, you really are getting a lot for the money, but if we take the salomon ultra mid 3x gtx the mouthful salomon, the one that won the 2019 best ultimate survival boot that boot runs for about 130 dollars and that boot is also mid size and that boat has also gtx waterproofing, and it’s also unbelievably comfortable and very lightweight for everything.

It offers great protection. Everything is great about that boot. So if I had two boots together the salomon and these las portivos, it would have been a tough choice if I didn’t know the price. But if I knew the price then I would, I mean, see you’re saving 60. I think that’s. That’s kind of a lot of money to save that’s a whole other columbia boot for you right there um amazing boot, but I think it is a little bit on the pricier side.

I think if las portivo wants to really compete with alamo, they need to drop the prices a little a little bit all right. So I hope this review was helpful for you guys if you did find it helpful. So these boots are basically what you’re gonna be looking at for winter mountaineering, starting with the G to SM I’m working all the way down to the g5 kind of decreasing in temperature and warmth. Rating down to the g5 so from left to right, G to SM is a 7000 meter boot, it’s a double boot with a built in integrated Gator. We’ve got dual boa adjustment for the top and bottom of the boot, so you can dial in pressure and and fit on the top and the bottom of the boot separately.

So quick adjustment really easy to use, maintain your gloves on just a killer boot. Basically, if you don’t need the whole iman’s and that’s overkill, then the g2 sm is the next step down from that. The next step we have is the span, tick and brontë. So very, very similar boots function wise. If you want more lace, lace, adjustability you’re, going to want to go with the burr on, say it’s going to be a little bit heavier, but it’s going to allow you more adjustment, more fine-tuning of your fit.

So if you have to do more technical ice, climbing the virante is probably going to perform a little bit better. The hispanic is not nearly as adjustable, but it’s a little bit lighter weight, warmth, wise they’re gonna, be about the same and depending on your objective, you’re gonna want to talk to your guide service and see what what they recommend and then down to the g5. So the g5 is kind of like the g2 sm’s little brother. This is the evolution of the bhatoora 2 0. So this has a big velcro power, strap on the top of the boot and then boa closure on the side.

So this is this is going to adjust the big hand on top of the foot here and crank that down and then just really simple, easy velcro adjustment on the top full integrated Gator. This is a single boot system, not a double boot system, probably not nearly as warm as Hispanic and the Bruins say, but it’s going to climb a lot better. It’s also the lightest by far in the entire line, so for really cold technical ice, climbing the g5. This is probably the best boot in the world, primarily just because it’s gonna have a really low profile, so it’s not gonna, feel big and heavy and clunky so foot placements and jamming and cracks and basically doing any kind of technical maneuver.

While climbing is gonna, be a lot easier in the g5. It’s gonna fit almost like a hiking boot I mean it’s. It’s super low profile. If you compare this, you know on the bottom. You can kind of see they’re, totally different, totally different boots, totally different applications, and when it’s on your foot, you’re gonna feel the weight of the barone sabers to the g5 it’s just 9 day, so you won’t notice this at all for light and fast missions. This is this is going to be huge.

Every step you take, you’re gonna feel it with the Bruins se, whereas with the g5 you can sprint so for faster missions. This is definitely going to be a game. Hey folks, this is Ryan from ORS cross-country skis. Direct in Vermont and I have in my hand the Fisher of BC X, 675 backcountry boot. This boot we’re pretty excited about. We go to shows who look for 3-pin backcountry boots and we want on them to be powerful. We want them to. You know, be able to turn a ski, that’s what they were designed for us for control. That’s why you’re using a 3-pin over a system, boot, and so first thing we do when we see a new boot is we pick it up and we try to twist it with our hands, and you would be amazed at the difference across the board.

We picked up this boot. We immediately noticed how laterally stiff it is, and what that means is when you’re trying to make a turn, the ski is going to respond. That’s huge! You don’t want the boot flexing on you losing all that power that you’re trying to drive into the ski a lot of that comes from the vibram sole, but also the construction of the boot itself and kind of a quick overview of the boot. It’s got a plastic heel counter and that really stiffens up helps the sniffing up the whole sort of bottom of the boot, plus it resists sort of wearing out on you.

So you know the heel takes. The heel of a boot, takes a lot of abuse and with a plastic heel counter, that’s going to really keep that thing stiff for many many many years as you move up, then you get to what’s called the flex cuff, which is this nice articulating cuff, and it will move freely so when you’re kicking and gliding you’re, not gonna really notice that it’s there, but when you use the power, strap and you’re going downhill, that has a ton of lateral stiffness to drive your ski.

It also has this little adjustment here, which will take out any play that you have and keep your heel lock down other than that it’s a thin slit. It’s insulated with thin slit and I’m sure you’ve heard of that name before so it’s super warm and cold cold temps and it has a nice neoprene lace cover a nice stretchy neoprene lace cover. That’s you easy-to-use. We really hear a lot of people complaining about lace covers, but this thing is stretchy and there’s plenty of room, so you’ll have no problem zipping that up over your laces.

So it’s a really really great backcountry 3-pin boot. Now, why would you choose a 3-pin boot over a n, an MVC system type boot, mainly because nothing beats the power you get with the three pin binding and it’s mainly because when you engage the boot into a 3 pin binding you’re getting power to the ski from the ball forward. All of this is turning the ski. So when you get up on edge, you’re you’re, turning the ski with all of this part of the boot, unlike an nmbc style, where you step down with a little toe bar, and it’s really just at the very end, so you get the most power with a 3 pin setup and as far as findings, we’ve got starting out with the basic 3 pin HD by Bolle, and then we’ve got the cable bindings over there before I get into bindings.

Let’s just talk about the skis first, you know when you decide on what type of ski you want, then you’ve got to think about the boot. You got to have a boot that can power the ski for what you’re looking to do. You also don’t want to boot this overkill either. So it’s really you know picking the right. Buddhist is critical and this particular boot really can work pretty much across the board. You know you might think it’s overkill on, like the BC 70 or the BC 90, but actually on the 90 I wouldn’t say it is by the way.

Both of these boots are skis, you’ll see how the nnn BC bindings on them and that works with really quickly an NNPC boot that has the bar and again, when you click in to this type of finding you’re there we go. We alright. So when you click into this there we go. You know when you kick and glide and you take your heel off the ski you’re only connected at the very, very toe. So that’s why the nnn system is really good for touring, but not as good for downhill control. Anyway, back to what we were talking about, and here 3-pin backcountry boots a lot more oomph they’re heavier, but they are designed for more power, and this boot is nice because it’s not a full plastic 3-pin.

So it’s not overkill. It’s not gonna be super heavy. It’s gonna be pretty comfortable in your touring, but it’s gonna turn a pretty wide ski again, not bad choice but really more suited for wider skis like the BC 90 would be great super happy on the mod Zeus eon right here and again. We’ve got that mounted with the Valais HD 3 pin binding awesome match on the Alpena Lite terrain. Moving on to the mountains, epic great choice there Alpina cross terrain, also a good choice and then, when you get to the next two skis the sort of our widest skis that we offer the anthem and the BC 125 by Rossignol.

You can certainly put those on there. You know on the annum, I think it’s a great setup and for people who don’t want the you know the extra weight of a plastic boot they’re, not 100%, going downhill, they’re doing a lot of kicking and gliding around they like a wide ski for the floatation and that sort of thing. This is a great choice. Also on the BC 125 same kind of deal, you know if optimum downhill control, one percent of the time is in your one priority. Then you like a lighter weight boot.

It’s going to feel more comfortable when you’re gliding and kicking around not a bad choice at all. So you know this boot really can work in any of these skis. It’s a super comfortable boot we’re super stoked about it. As far as bindings, you saw the 3-pin HD doesn’t have a cable. When you add a cable you’re, really improving your downhill control, so starting off with a bully, 3 pin cable. Here it’s got the expansion spring cable that can come off nice and easily. So the nice thing is, you can take it off when you’re, kickin and gliding on a tour, and then, when you get to the top, you hook it back on it wraps around your boot, and it will stiffen up that entire interface to the ski and give you a lot more power.

You could also match it up with the hard wire which is a instead of a flexible spring as a metal rod, and that really gives a lot more lateral, stiffness and the cable actually also does come off as well on the three hardwired. Those are the three best binding choices for the Fisher BC 675 boot, so think about that country and control, yet not so heavy duty as a plastic boot. This is a really really great choice.
