Hey guys josh from sporty to here and initial review time and the review is. Going to be on the new mallets 1080 version 9 this little guy right here so. It’s a pretty cool update to this year and so I’m really looking forward to so give me as much information as possible and so you can potentially add this to your running kit so without further ado. Let’s get stuck in first things first let’s talk about what foot types should be running inside this shoe now learn across some controversial boundaries through here because technically when you pick up a shoe like this it’s. Neutral so there’s no additional dual-density support on the video side and exhaust and stable however we’ve had. Some great success fitting some slightly. Pronated foot types inside this shoe we’re talking the minority some runners that technically to overpronate rolling over that arch but may need a little bit. Of assistance but don’t like the feeling of support systems from some other brands so and to paint that picture for you so technically a neutral foot type is something that looks a little bit like this over high arch or high navicular region through here so that’s quite a pitched bit of real estate a bit of air between the actual shape of the arch and with a contact point for the shoe is as well so that’s what we classify as a neutral to supinated foot top so a lot of the pressures on the outside of that foot as you go through you can cycle when we’re talking a slightly proud foot type flip side here. We’re looking at a foot that’s a living a flatter in the art so when we’re talking about contact to loading phase or braking phase the arch does flatten out quite a bit through here so there are some runners and as I’ve touched on before more than once to minority but just don’t like a feeling of support system underneath the arch right through here we prefer to run in what the classifier is stable neutral shoe now. Relying on a trusty beam to keep me nice and stable having it for ground contact just gives me real confidence when I’m putting my foot down the other thing tonight as you come through the forefoot is there’s not a lot of going on in terms of the flexibility through that region so what i mean about that is they haven’t cut into the outsole which creates a really flexible forefoot you can see through here we sort of got one two three four five little slits in the outsole so I’ll. Bring that closer to you might be able to see a little bit better through their so having those little slits does provide a little bit of a flexibility. On toe off however as i touched on. Earlier being a stable neutral shoots kind of good thing having a bit more support or rigidity on that tunnel phase to keep your foot nice and balanced that’s stable so sometimes when you’ve. Got a density of foam which is quite soft which is what the new balance fresh foam is if it’s too flexible underneath and too soft you get too much movement so i suppose that compromise with making. It a little bit more original or stiffer through the forefoot because they’ve got a really soft layer of cushioning so and that’s why new balance is essentially gone down that engineering path so. Moving on to the mid sole fresh foam. Cushioning system which has been on the market now for a number of years and the. First 1080 they rolled out it was the v6 and the v6 was by far one of my favourite mutual stable it’s time to cut marathons in them really like them and v7 and v8 i didn’t. Quite warm to you in the 1080 family however the two months I’ve been for in. That 1080p nine i have been really impressed with so who knows it i might use it for my next mouth on some other side, but we’re talking and a little bit. Offset as well so a little better here it’s way greater inside this shoe so therefore it’s its not really great for. A really hard heel striking because it is so soft and that grady is a little bit lower, so we want to see potentially. Someone who is more of a mid-foot strike inside this shoe however there is the engineering structure the fact to cater. For heel striking if need be but because of that upset because their density of my being so soft it’s not an absolute. Go-to for a true heel striking in my. Humble opinion happy fair people take their comment below and challenge me on that theory but that’s okay so as i come through the forefoot obviously the gradient drops down a little bit and just provides a nice flexible sort of sprung class through that fourth what in conjunction with that slightly step out song as well so moving on to the upper. So we’ve got a slightly show heel. Counter in the back three here so it is an internal heel counter so you can feel they actually show itself has a little bit of support and through this beam through here and this structure configuration here so it does provide enough support around the back of the heel and calcaneus however it is a big. Shovel so looking at that when i first got out of the box i thought what a bit I’m here because it’s a little bit too shallow I’m going to slip out of this show are utilizing the last hole i still feel nice and secure and that potentially might be because the surely ever-so-slight it does angel in around the back heel so you get a nice lock even though it’s not that high coming through into the mid foot it’s got a nice and piece of overlays through here which just helps give that mid foot some stability over the top of that navicular and that as you come to the forefoot it’s a nice generous fall for jack I’m a engineering which essentially provides plenty of breath ability but a nice strong stable upper as well however i do need to touch on the feet before foot so it is relatively generous through that. Through that week the platform but nice and shallow so that may sound like I’m contradicting myself here but to give you and a bit of a better picture at home is that in the past few years in. The new mouth 1080 iva rounded the deal with myself so standing with however a couple of runs I’ve had I’ve actually done it to win it felt really great little bit weaker. Then what I’m used to however and what i will find in the deal with it would. Going to be deep enough for this reason to be deep enough for you to cater for that orthotic and obviously there’s a new balance 818 which is naturally a lot deeper and a bit more support at the back of that heel so if you’re a new balance pan and you do have an athletic community a neutral shoe i probably. Encourage you into the aat over the 1080 purely for that depth factor so wrapping. Up the new balance 1080 and i do like. This shoe and it’s got great cushioning nice and supportive and the shoe itself isn’t too heavy on the foot by any means you look at the weight so you sort of pushing about 296 grams for the men’s. And roughly 287 for the ladies know that. Was sort of up around the slightly heavier mutual and weights in terms of. The other comparative models quiz rooms and nimbus is etc however being the. We’re taking a look at the men’s and women’s Bushido trail running shoe by la. Sportive this is a fully featured. Lightweight trail shoe that i can see. Being great for someone who’s hiking or just fast backpacking with more of a minimal mindset it’s not a minimalist. Shoe by any means but la sportive has. You know put some features on this trail. Shoe that makes it really stable for how. Lightweight it is the most interesting. Feature about this shoe is a tpu frame. That kind of starts here on the upper. Part of the shoe and connects to the mid sole seamlessly it actually wraps. Around the bottom of the shoe and around. The other side so that gives a lot of stability in the shoe and just makes a. Really dialed in fit as well the rest of. The upper part of the shoe is basically. A really lightweight mesh and so you. Now it’s one of the first things that struck me about this shoe is that the. Mesh is really flexible it’s really comfortable, and they have even put some overlays on the shoe in key areas where. You do need a little bit more durability. You know here on the heel you know here. On the toe there’s a really nice toe cap. You know on the front of the shoe to protect against rocks and that sort of. Think but right above your toe area you. Now if you’re moving fast if you’re running it’s going to breathe really well should the shoe become wet it’s going to dry out really fast taking a. Look at the tongue you have a nicely padded tongue here so if you do need to cinch down those laces it’s comfortable. Against your foot and just really soft the material inside the shoe i mentioned. The laces you have sort of asymmetrical design on the laces so you. No fit your foot anatomically and you. Can really dial in the fit the outsole. Of this shoe has really aggressive lugs, and they actually come up they’re rounded they come up into even the mid sole of the shoe so against. Mud against loose gravel you’re really. Going to have a lot of traction starting at the bottom you can really see that la. Sportive is impact the brake system is you know something that’s really going to give you a lot of traction on ascending and descending you know when. You need that extra traction but all in. All this shoe has an excellent balance of weight and stability it’s going to. Give you a lot of confidence on the trail on your next trail running adventure it’s the men’s and women’s. Now five years no we’re just a couple years old okay mark a little over two years okay cool you guys have really I’d. Say progress the line i think you guys are growing at a pretty good clip now we. Now have you in the store we brought in your new lightweight trail shoe that mt2. Eight and a half ounces in the men’s. Nine so real lightweight some good flex. What you guys are really doing design wise is still a good tight fit in the. Heel and the instep but doing much more. Of an anatomical slightly wider toe box really how the foots actually shape yeah i think that’s really one of the unique things about the mt two is that i. Like to have a roomy toe box your toes can spread and splay but a lot of times in a shoe like that you have a shoe that fits a little sloppy in the back the level of security to feel fast and. Nimble i think you still need to feel really connected in the back half and through the waist and the shoe so i like that sensation that puts you know tight security through here but lots of room up front so your toes. Better sense of control yeah i was blown. Away by how light this is he’s dog great trail tread can handle couple miles of road no problem but you. No really good grip underfoot but it. Was really to me like how light this loves specially the level of cushioning 23 millimeters in the heel 20 in the. Forefoot so you’re doing a little bit of moss that’s three millimeters millimeter you’re not completely stuck into a zero. Drop and you’re right building you know also about traditional shoes and the 12 millimeter right everything for us is really between that zero and five millimeters that’s where we have put everything so this kind of falls in the middle of that is a three millimeter cool and you guys have a full range of. Shoes I’m kind of at the other end of the spectrum you have something definitely more protective yeah so this is a this is a shoe so the one we were looking at was the m22 this is a shoe called the hydra venture it has some similar characteristics so. Again some kind of platform 23:20 but in. This case you can see inside here you can see the that it’s got a rock plate. Actually molded into the mid sole the. Rock plate itself sorry to slide out a. Frame yet is really cool the rock plate itself has a flex screw here molded tpu. Like material through here so you don’t have rocks or roots x-raying up through the sole we open it up in the mid foot so you have a little bit of torsional flex so it doesn’t force you to roll an ankle or twist doesn’t add a lot of weight. This shoe still comes in at about nine ounces one of the key characteristics in. This shoe this is a waterproof shoe we use a vent waterproof membrane here the. Membrane is actually laminated directly. To the mesh so unlike you know some. Waterproof shoes you’d build a full bootie yep and you cement that bootie to. The effort can make it a little hard well in this case the upper is actually quite supple and soft so it allows the foot to still move and work in a natural way well and it also makes the shoe lighter so again coming in at just barely over nine ounces an issue for. Shoe that has a rock plate waterproof technology with the same fit characteristics you described in the mt so this shoe comes in at a. A Hundred dollars suggested retail in one. Thirty on the water place yeah and that’s what i was also surprised with was the price point is so competitive a. A Hundred dollars — i think like in our store i think that’s going to be one of our least expensive shoes and but as well. Probably the best value churko probably expected live with a huge outdoors i hope so you know i think there are ways that you can make shoes and deliver a great value without always having to have you know some shoes. Require higher price points are because there’s so much there but i think that our responsibility is to make sure. We deliver a variety of price points and that you always have a shoe that’s an entry level shoe that helps people get into the sport and then as they progress you know then they can work their way up the ladder enjoy running thanks.

Hey guys what’s going on today I’m going. To be reviewing the topo athletic ultra. Ventures this shoe is pretty fantastic. If i had one way of describing this shoe. I would have to say that it is the love. Child of a an ultra and a hoca it does. Come in at ten point four ounces so it. Might be slightly on the heavier side even though ten point four ounces is. Pretty stinking light there is a five. Millimeter heel to toe drop so you’re starting off at thirty in the back twenty-five in the front and that’s where i would say it’s kind of emulate soar resembles a hookah but it does have. That traditional foot shaped or wider. Then normal toe box and tomiko toe box keeping that great toe and alignment. Letting that kind of be your anchor point for your foot and letting the other toes splay out in here this shoe i. Really can’t speak too much on anything. Bad about this shoe i haven’t had a bad. Experience and it this particular pair has 310 miles on it and then i have a. Brand new pair over here which I’d be. Hard-pressed at any point in time of my life to buy another pair of the exact. Some shoe and the exact same color so. Anyway that should tell you something this shoe has gotten me through a lot of. Long runs i kind of got the shoe to try. Out for a training cycle for double. Dalek ultras unfortunately i got really cold in the race and so anyway i made it. 100k out of 100 miles but it had nothing to. Do with the shoe it’s very money on the trails that day very cold very wet the shoe outperform. Itself it comes with a v boom as you can. See with bieber marketing they’re gonna tell you that it’s a v room again with a v berm outsole this is the xs trek not. The magna grip or maggot grip that comes. On the speed goats the hoko speed goats but be advised that the maggot grip is going to be coming out on the a new pair. Of toe bones anyway the waterproof toe pose that are gonna be coming out next year or 2019. Look for the hydro ventures anyway look. For those coming up these have a new. Improved upper there’s a couple different overlays let me show you on the cleaner pair a couple different overlays on here they’re actually more. Than one piece the toe bumper is separate from this overlay giving you a little bit more protection the upper is. Actually a new printed mesh or new type. Of mesh anyway so you’re getting a little bit tighter mesh up here in the front keeping out some of the debris and. Then a little more open mesh more tour. Of the metatarsals give me a little bit more airflow and breath ability maybe a. Little more drainage new feature also and a bunch of the new trousers it’s gonna be these gills alright they’re. Basically drainage ports so whenever you. Get water in your shoe every step from that point I’m gonna act kind of like you’re forcing the water. Our kind of pumping the water out of your shoe with your own steps i have. Noticed i have gotten these shoes very wet have noticed that they do drain. Really well and also the new upper as. Well as this has given the shoe a more. Comfortable temperature anyway some. People have complained about taupe was being very warm this shoe especially. With the new porthole insole I’m. Getting a little worth of light marketing in there with the new. Porthole insole has actually become a lot more. Comfortable temperature-wise i did get the shoe right when the weather was changing so it was still kind of warm and it’s felt fine through coming up. Here now in the 30s all right not too. Cold here in virginia anyway there is a. Gator attachment in the back so it’s kind of weird looking topo brandied. Gator attachment here got hook little. Places for the hooks and I’ll show you. With the gators on these so I’ve got. These hooks that kind of walk in there and then the gator like a normal gator. Pulls over and it attaches too wherever. You need in the front it’s a lot easier than this when you have one anyway so there you go. With the gator attachment and that is a. Topo branded gator attachment these would work with any other type of gators you would just have to do your traditional velcro and i actually did so. In velcro on these so i could use them on the magnifies are the magnet flies. Twos anyway alright. The tongue is fully gusseted I’ll show you on the other pair that son just. Fully gusseted meaning it is sewn in and. So that prevents a lot of the sliding around of the tongue and bunching and. Creating hot spots and i really haven’t noticed any hot spots in this shoe the. Upper is three pieces sorry i think already said that but anyway the eba. Upper or sole is three pieces you’ve got. Kind of little bit firmer sole here or. Aba here a little bit softer in the back and even though this would traditionally. Mean that this is a stability shoe or a guidance shoe this piece is still just. Maybe a hair firmer than up here and i. Have a neutral foot and this i haven’t felt like there’s any guidance or anything like that this shoe again is called the ultra venture meaning it’s out it’s going to. Be marketed towards someone who’s going. To be out there maybe more on an ultra run or ultra marathon and when they’re. Fatigued their foot kind of hits the. Ground a little bit differently so it’s kind of it might give you a little bit of guidance but not enough to where it’s gonna throw off your gait i have like i. Said 310 miles in this pair of shoe and so normal wear and tear i did really. Really try to destroy this pair I’ve got. A little wear back here I’ve got a. Little wear right here where there’s a. Couple like a couple holes for me but this is about the time when I’d be retiring a pair of shoes anyway and for a trail pair that i literally beat the heck out of it’s surpassed a lot of my. Expectations i don’t normally run in a five. Millimeter drop i don’t know why i just didn’t say this earlier but this she. Doesn’t really feel like a five millimeter drop it’s taken a lot of stress off my Achilles because it is a. Five millimeter but at the same time there’s enough cushioning in it to where it almost feels zero ish drop I’m not. Gonna say it does because i don’t want to give you the impression that it is a. Zero drop or it would crush down to being a zero drop like the heel would be that soft but it does kind of. Feel like it hooks on to your foot a little bit better than a lot of other shoes out there is enough cushion here in the back to give you a nice heel. Cup and kind of lock your heel down in there now i would give it you know a. Couple strides out there to let it adjust before you tighten it down anymore if you did feel a little heel slipping one other thing i really wanted. To point out there is no rock plate in here and there are a couple cutouts to give it a little bit more flexibility but if you do step on something that. Sharp there’s enough cushion in here that’s gonna give you that protection and you might feel it but it’s not gonna hurt you’re too much to the point where you get like a stone bruise i have stepped on very sharp things and how it. Had any issues and then one thing that i really enjoyed about this shoe was with this aggressive outsole i stepped on a. Couple routes this way and had i not had. This type of little slightly you know. More aggressive outsole that they’ve been putting on the new trail line for. Toboe anyway i might have slipped off. That but that route but i actually kind of caught it and so i was able to prevent some foot rolling because of that it did take me a little bit of time to get used to if you’re not traditionally used to running in a more. Aggressive outsole because there’s just slightly more clearance underfoot so. You’re getting the 25 and 30 but then. You have an additional maybe 5 millimeters here and i have run on this. On-road a few times i haven’t felt the grip so i feel like. That there’s enough cushion in there to that you do run over pebbles or whatnot you’re really not gonna feel those so that’s that should be a good sign anyway and try not to be too long-winded on this but this is a great shoe i highly suggest it guys got any questions pop them down in their bottom you want. A hikers and runners i wanted to share. My experience with my topo terra venture. Trail runners i guess they are I’m not really a trail runner I’m more of a hiker but i had a problem with finding. Shoes that had a wide enough toe box for. My wide foot and i tried on all the. Major brands at rei and this is the one. That i found that fit me the best for a wide foot i was a former brookes. Cascadia wearer but the last i don’t. No 4 or 5 models of brookes I’ve been. Unable to wear because the toe box is too narrow so these are a little cut. Shoe they allow your ankle to flex naturally they’re lightweight they weigh. About 10 ounces they’re ventilated they. Have a nice full mesh upper with some. Reinforcing that’s printed on there versus laminated so not a lot to come. Apart here’s a little demonstration of. The grip of these terra ventures. They have a minimal heel to toe drop i. Believe it’s three millimeters so it feels it’s got a natural feel to it. They’ve been around for about only a. Year or two toni post was the founder of. These he also worked with vibram so he. Knows a lot about the soul has an aggressive lug to it lug pattern they. Have a foot plate yet they’re still soft. Enough where you can feel the trail and you get a good round feel there are. Pretty good value these are i got them on sale at rei I’ve got used my 20% off. But i think they’re 100 or a hundred ten bucks full price so pretty good value comparable to the ultra lone peak so. They really do have good traction they’re lightweight I’ve got them paired. With my dirty girl gaiters. You. I’ve had him up the mountain behind me which is golden gate mountain here in the desert in tucson that’s about a 1700. Foot elevation getting to thinking they. Worked great on that and it’s there was some good scrambling and actually some wall climbing up there that we had to do so that was fun they worked great for that they work great for trail like i said they’re a good shoe if you’ve got a wide foot give em a try.
