Of some gloves right now i have the mountain hardwear bulldog these things are some pretty. Serious gloves almost a mix between a nice ski glove or an alpine glove and a work glove they’ve got some padding reinforced here on the fingers. I think the dexterity is real nice it’d be really good for ice climbing, and they’ve got what they call extreme pre. Curvature this is without wearing much. In fact, they look just like this out of the box they’ve got a nice pre curvature going on, and they use some sort of Kevlar stitching to maintain this real. Easy to put on and it has sort of this i. Think what they call a full gauntlet here to just slide on their’s no. Insulation and padding down here down below the wrists but to put on when i. First put them on i thought man these are gonna be tight i put them on and then kind of slide my hand back a little bit and wiggle it’s absolutely perfect my fingers aren’t touching they’re not getting pinched anywhere they’re not hitting the ends of them the large is what i wear in most gloves and it’s consistent with the mountain hardwear bulldog as well it’s a combination of pigskin and goat skin. Down to about your chest but what’s really great about it is while i was wearing if i started to get warm but it was still cool out i would just zip it down all the way to the very bottom. Of the zipper and did a great job of really helping let some of that air flow. Through invented and really kind of. Helped cool me down a little bit without having to take this off this typically on a normal day when i was hiking i typically wore this probably for about the first mile it was simple and light to be able to put on simple and light to be able to get off and throw back in my pack but again a lot of times i wore. In the morning but it was just a great piece of gear that i could just throw on any one time just to kind of raise my. So in the morning but really loved the versatility at this piece of gear had now it does have a couple of elastic. Some holes that you can put your thumbs. Through to really hold this thing the sleeves in place so there are times when it does start to get really cold out there on the trail especially when you’re starting to hit like the 30s and the low 40s and you are uncomfortable. And want to make sure that your sleeves stay in one place you can put those. Elastic some holes around your thumbs and then. It also helps with really kind of keeping a part of your palm warm as well so i like that in addition all right let’s talk about the hood so i did not. Have a hood with my ultimate down jacket and I’m so glad that i didn’t go with one but i brought it beanie with but i. Honestly i maybe wore the beanie maybe three times because if i had the beanie on it’s because i already it was cold enough that i already had this out and on and with this having a hood it really defeated the purpose of me having to have a beanie and wear a beanie but i. Put this on all the time it was just great being able to have the versatility of doing that hood on and i didn’t need. It just taking it off but it really did a great job would keep me warm and again. With that airflow that this is able to create i was able to really stay cool but still stay warm and those cooler. Temperatures normally when i did my hood on i would zip this up about half-way now this if you zip it all the way up to the top will go just above your mouth. Their t-shirts become drenched in sweat. Not really a problem until the end of the day when you start to cool down and your t-shirt doesn’t dry out that’s the. Reason why base layers work well because. At the end of the day they wick away moisture leaving you dry and comfortable. This particular garment the eclipse. Hooded tee from mountain equipment a brand is synonymous with quality okay as. Many features first of all it’s got flat. Looking seams that means that the garment itself is not going to rub you up against the wrong way it’s made of a techno stretch fleece. From a company called bob bergdahl i. Have to say pompadour dawg because it’s italian if when i said once he talked to her it wouldn’t sound quite right and it. Weighs in at 290 grams so it’s very light as i said it’s got flat lock seams. Other features about the garment is it. Zipped it’s got a ykk zip which is deep. Centered so if i just pull this out you. Can actually take the zip take this zip. Which runs up the side of your face and doesn’t actually run up your throat actually runs up and to the side of the chin which is brilliant it’s not going to basically getting away and be irritating you can actually take this zip and you can undo it all the way down. To your midriff this is something that you don’t get from a t-shirt and you don’t get from a lot of the base layers they’re out on the market at the moment if you want to do it the opposite you can basically flip up the hood which is got and you can only take the zip up. Round underneath your chin and over your. Nose the thing i like about this. Particular garment is that it keeps your extremities warm so if you’re out in norway or in the middle of winter you can it basically bring the chin guard up. Bring down the hood and now you’re. Covering up your extremities the tip to your ears and your nose the hood itself. Is unobtrusive it doesn’t get in the way. And it can even be top to work so you. Can see from that it’s an unobtrusive hood but should you be non. Tackle semi tactical it’s there it’s an. Option for you to use also got thumb. Loops on the ends of your sleeves the. Reason why i like thumb loops is that when you’re putting on your gloves you can actually slide your gloves on and you and your sleeve doesn’t disappear at. Your wrist house it keeps things comfortable it could also bring the. Ends of the sleeves down over your knuckles so basically they’re almost starting to act as hand warmers the. Other thing about the garment and it’s all about attention to detail is you will notice that the garment is cut very. Long a lot of you would have been used to basically having t-shirts and other base layers ruching up behind them with it being carrying bergen’s this one won’t do that because it’s going on as well. Hi everyone today I’m taking a look at. The battle equipment eclipse hooded zip-t so lightweight fleece mid layer. Stroke base layer i tend to use it as a. Lightweight mid layer rather a base layer basically because the fit isn’t really skin tight so i can fit a. Close-fitting base layer underneath and use this as a lighter weight mid layer. Maybe underneath a thicker mid layer or. If it’s not that could then just as a. Standalone mid layer it’s made from. Ponte auto tech no stretch fleece which is a lightweight gridded fleece material. So on the inside the fleecy sections are. Cut into a grid pattern i really like. Gridded pieces the increased surface. Area of the grid helps trap more heat so. You get a better warmth to weight ratio before the fleece also helps with. Readability against surface area it’s. More surface area to transport the moisture away from you away from your body and wicks well it is not wind. Resistant at all is there’s a one downside compared to maybe a traditional fleece or a slightly hard face to face. The grids obviously leave big gaps. Which the wind just comes right through so bad to use underneath something if. It’s windy there are two weights of fleece used in this top the gray. Sections under the arms down the sides. Around the bottom hem all the way around. And the back of the neck. And around the mouth piece are all a. Lighter weight than the red sections which is everywhere else so you’ve got a zoned sort of climate control where you. Really do expect to be a bit more sweaty and the arms fall where you want slightly lower profile around the lower hem or around the wrists you’ve got a. Thinner lighter fleece the sleeves on. This is long very long as you can see i. Have really long arms i normally find. Sleeves too short these are really nice and long the integrated thumb loops work. Well they’re really comfortable there’s plenty of length that you’re not putting. On any part of the sleeve to put them on. But if you don’t want to use them then it sits very nicely and you can move really easily very stretchy material as. Well you have one zipped chest pocket. Quite small enough space for a mobile phone a couple of snack bars or something and a deep zip past it. Preventing and just make it be easier to. Get on and off the real masterpiece of. This top is the hood which is pretty. Unique in that it’s a really close-fitting hood so will fit really nicely. Under a helmet or under a hat or anything give some light warmth as well. And you also have a balaclava style. Front piece which is you zip the main. Zip all the way up you’ll see it tapers off to an angle so that it’s not in line. With your mouth it’s out of the way and if you get that all the way up to the. Top you can get a balaclava complete bal. Collar style like that and you can if. You tuck the sides of the hood in it gives a really close fit so that it’s barely any of your face showing well you. Can drop it down and really easy to move. Due to the way it’s constructed the. Mouthpiece is stitched slightly back. From the end of the hood so it’s almost hinged by there so if it was connected. To the front of the hood you wouldn’t be able to do this you’d have to unzip it, so they’ve done been really clever and how they’ve designed that so that really. Easy to use and you can also drop the. Hood back easily without unzipping it. Have the mouth up hood down really no. Problems using that really easy to use innovative i really like it you have a. Small beard guard or chin guard at the top of the zip as well obviously for more comfort the material on the. Balaclava part is really easy to speak. Through and breathe through because it is the thinner gray material although. It’s not not really wind resistant at. All like i said before so you know. They’ll give you some warmth and maybe. Cut a tiny bit of wind out but if it’s a. Really biting windy you’re gonna want something a bit more substantial around. Your face to keep the window it’s cut. Quite long which you can’t see but it comes down well past my hips which is. Nice that you don’t have it riding up at all when you move and it’s really low. Profile so it’s not obtrusive underneath. Trousers or anything i really like this top it’s versatile it uses some really. Great fabrics fits really well comfy. Uses some really great innovative features especially around the hood if.
