Five Ten Freerider Contact Cycling Shoe – Men’s

If the Freerider Contact Shoes look and feel like an old friend, that’s because Five Ten based its design on an updated version of the VXi chassis. The big change from VXi to Contact is the addition of toe protection in the latter the equivalent of ensconcing your little piggies in a brick house instead of just the synthetic leather of the VXi. With this additional armor, the Contact’s capabilities encompass a bit more of the DH spectrum while also improving the outcomes of mishandled landings.

The sole’s flat metatarsal section of Stealth Rubber carries over from the VXi to the Contact, giving you secure grip on flat pedals that still allows you to freely reposition your feet similar to road pedals with a high degree of float. The durable, synthetic uppers and mesh ventilation also return, making for shoes that rock the park, cruise the DH circuit, and clean lines across all manner of all-mountain riding.

  • Mountain biking shoes for everything from downhill to enduro rides
  • Burly synthetic upper resists wear and tear and offers toe protection
  • Lace closure system puts the fit in your hands
  • Mesh ventilation allows for breathable comfort on hot days
  • Stealth Mi6 rubber outsole absorbs shock and adds easy pedal placement
  • Item #FVT000V
  • Hi I’m brad and when I’m out riding i love riding at five ten today I’ve got the five ten contact here this is an. Updated version of the free rider vxi. This is stiff shoe it’s going to be great for all-mountain endure and free ride. The contact has the famous mi6 stealth. Rubber on the outsole the stickiest rover in the world it also sports a smooth outsole under the arch so that the pedal pins don’t get caught up in the lugs finally it’s got a updated toe. Box to prevent those painful rock strikes the abrasion resistant upper has. Been redesigned for more comfort and to be more breathable after a long day of riding you might want to clean these the insole pops right out so you can put it. Right in the washing machine or hit it with some febrile the 510 contact is. Like the all-around cowboy shoe it’s. Going to be your best shoot for all-mountain free ride dirt jumps and. Killing it in the park if you’ve had a. Chance to ride these shoes please post some comments on fit size comfort and style that’s it for the 510 contact happy riding.

Hey what’s up guys welcome back to another episode today’s episode i quickly want to discuss the importance of having the correct protection for your feet in my case i ran with the 510. Freebie pros so stay tuned it’s coming up so let’s quickly discuss why you. Would be wanting to ride with a mountain bike specific shoe well number one it’s. Got quite a bit of rigidity in the sole. I used to ride just in normal sneakers. But going from sneakers to this. Massively grippy like rubber compound. That’s on here i mean my life has totally changed this guy you stick it. Down in your pedal you really have to look at your foot off the pedal and put it back down on the pedal to actually readjust your foot because once this is done and the grub screws have dug into the base of this these guys aren’t going. Anywhere the one thing that I’ve noticed to three days after the famous crash. Yes yeah that crash right there I’ve. Noticed that if i was not wearing the. Shoes because of the rigidity of the sole my foot i don’t know exactly what happened but if this was my foot it kind. Of rolled something to that extent. So i think if it was not full for these. Shoes i would have most likely broken about two or three of my toes yeah. Luckily i didn’t break anything my foot is blue slightly swollen but. Right after the crowd so i could walk it off i think if i wasn’t wearing these free ride shoes the damage could have definitely been a hell of a lot worse cost a bit of money these shoes are expensive but if you. Think about how long they’re gonna last if you think about how much money in the long run these will save you in hospital bills broken bones that kind of thing the. Issues are definitely worth it i think. They come in today at about two and a half thousand ram but it’s a one sort of purchase and you can ride for several years with these shoes considering you. Now if you’re an adult and you’re not still young lad or lady out there these will. Definitely work yeah if you’re a parent watching this you have a kid out there on the trails riding well. Mom and dad i think if you can kind of. Like you gets a bus together get the youngsters some good solid protection because it will save you down the line. And some hospital bills yeah as always. Say if you treat the sport with a little. Bit of respect in the right kind of gear you can make it a very safe sport. So this is the 510 free ride pro chute i. Will leave a link down below in the description you can definitely go ahead and check these art if you would like some more information about those the shoe has definitely changed my life. Added grip added power delivery because. There’s no real give in the sol compared. To a sneaker these guys are a monsters. Out on the track this brings me to the end of my protection series for this week next week I’ll be back with a fortunate designing of that kitchen at. The back getting ready for easter weekend to hit the trails so that’s it. For me for this week guys so as always stay safe on the trails look after yourselves and I’ll see you guys next week peace out

Hello tubers i hope you are all okay a. Hairy back here with a review for a new. Piece of kit these are my 5 10 free rides i put in. Now approximately 5 to 550 kilometers. I’m not sure exactly on these now and i. Thought ok now i can justify review as. You can see they’re a bit grubby first. Of all actually the issues of relatively. Waterproof sort of abrasive resistance. Around the side here this is all sort of like a plasticy mesh it’s very. Robust around the front here it’s got a. Mice protected bit for the toes actually. This is really good if you sort of keep back your pedals or something like this really protects it, and they’re also a relatively waterproof i mean i. Went through a sort of muddy clay root on these a little while back and as well. Come back this morning from a little bit of mud and water, and they hold it they. Hold it out pretties well in comparison to what i was riding before with which were a pair of bands skate shoes which really. Aren’t ideal for the sort of writing that i do they’re also warm which is. Super especially if you put on an extra pair of socks or something like that two pairs of socks i was riding last weekend. In about minus 2 degrees it was very related a little breed that was sadly fairly cold so my feet was still warm. And they said that was great just a little bit of sizing and there we. Can see this in here probably not look. Ok well anyway these are 48.5 european. 13 uk and 14 is size and just as a. Little comparison for my night trainers. I also take the same size i know some shoes vary in size but these seem to go. One sort of the mike scale so if you have a pair of mics check the. Size in there and then this should compare relatively well to these. Here i did however buy a pair of lights. At five cent climbing shoes and the 48.5. Came up small very small so if you’re also into climbing just be aware of that. Okay that hurts my toe had a blister on the end of it after my session so yep. Another thing to consider before we get. A little bit more into the review is these souls are really thick, and they’re great, and they’re super sticky so i actually had to adjust my. Saddle to accounts of this because the ones i was writing before were obviously. A little bit thinner i guess and it’s. It’s noticeable when you get on your bike you can really tell that you know there’s an extra little bit of girth down here okay so the soles themselves. As you can see I’m riding on my bike at. The moment a nice pair of dmr v12 pedals. And there’s not too much i mean you know. They look almost as good as new hardly anywhere on there whatsoever the. Stealth rubber is great it really does stick to the pedals just be careful of your pedals aren’t in the right position and you put your feet down because they slip, or they will continue to stick okay. The laces are good i mean just standard. Laces really haven’t tried washing these. Off yet and maybe i should try and do that and like i said they are relatively waterproof so i guess all this mud on the outside will just scrape off so always good overall a great pair of. Shoes these cost me a hundred and ten euros that was with a 10% discount you. No I’m not so sure that’s good comparatively the danny Catskill. Version are usually about thirty to. Forty euros more expensive and in all honesty I’m not sure what the difference is however if you haven’t ridden five ten and you still you know wearing your. Sports trainers or your skate shoes or wherever it is you know to progress your. Riding that little bit further and just for the stability i mean these things are super tough as well you know really durable they hardly bend which is great and. Actually something that i didn’t i didn’t think up before you really you. Could really complete the feet on you can plant your foot and you know really. Sort of helps with all of this motion you know it’s very good also not too uncomfortable to walking so if. You get off your bikes go into a cask and get a doughnut or something like that excuse me fruit because we’re cyclists you need to. Stay healthy yeah they’re also not so. Uncomfortable so you could easily push your bike up of hill to lock it up. Somewhere take a little quick walk into town and you’ll be absolutely fine in this if you have any questions let me. Now and I’ll try and get back to you as soon as possible all right thanks very much.

Alright guys welcome back to wild outdoor living today we’re going to be taking a look at the 510 free-rider. Contact and the regular 510 free-rider. Now we were looking to buy some flat. Pedal shoes for our bikes you know it was a real challenge because the 510 free-rider contact cost one hundred and fifty dollars and the regular free rider just costs a hundred so i wanted to know. Why is there such a big difference between these two pedal shoes maybe. Besides the initial looks and some of the stuff you can see online and nobody was doing in comparison so now that i have both of shoes here we’re going to show you what the differences are so you can decide what is best for you the. Stuff we have the 510 free rider contact this is the women’s version i got this purse elise when she decided to go to. Flat pedals we decided to get her these shoes for a couple of reasons first. There are a little bit lower profiled so if the styles not real the big fat skater style like any other reason i. Wasn’t quite as worried with the new. Design being a little bit untested because solis is not right nearly as many miles as i do so mostly it was just get a good fit get a nice clean profile. And get a really good sticky sole so if. We look at some of the features on this shoe this is their newer design we’re. Seeing a lot more synthetic materials, so we have this kind of rubberized texture right here along the mid foot same thing. On the inside on the medial side lateral media we do have some really tough. Plastic or rubber nylon type of material. In the toe and around just around the. Just around really look the front and sides of the whole toe box it’s really rigid it’s a super protective toe. Cap and we have a similar thing going on in the heel but upside of this is it’s. Going to keep your toes really protected the downside is that if your toes don’t. Quite fit in there comfortably that can. Be really irritating because there is no stretch to the shoes being that so synthetic we do see the real trademark. Of the content versus the contact patch it has no dots. On the in that area this is the area of. The foot you would put on the pedal and so instead of having all the all these. Groupies to make it inconsistent feeling. You’re going to just make that flat it’s going to sink down to the pedal and really give you a good grip additionally. This is 5/10 stickiest stealth rubber so. The two biggest differences you’ve got that flat contact pass it gives the shoe the contact name and then you have the. Ultra sticky stealth rubber. That is the softest stickiest that 5/10. Makes there are some other things that. You might want to be aware of before you purchase the shoe first and foremost elephant in the room if you’ve been reading the reviews you know that when this you came out it was absolutely horrendous in terms of reliability there’s a there’s a transition here between the eba in the mid sole. And the outsole stealth rubber and. They’ve cut it down a little bit lower and says sewing it directly into the (upper) of the shoe they’ve glued it into the eba of the mid sole and that. Saves some weight that makes the shoe light and streamlined but the problem is. That when it flexes here it would. Separate so we haven’t had an issue with it haven’t seen any bad reviews in a cup in a few months about six months or so actually and so hopefully all the shoes. Are good now, and we’re not going to see. That reliability issue the other possible reliability issue is. Because the rubber is so soft it’s going. To break down quicker i mean just plain and simple even on fleece issues which she hasn’t actually worn that many times with it being winter last few months you. Now you can already see that it’s a little bit scuffed up a little bit worn it’s probably going to last a really long time though and be a great fit for. This shoe is definitely sitting as the higher performance option in a less reliable package move on to the standard. 510 pre writer i fretted and could not. Decide what i was going to get this shoe is quite a bit cheaper than. The free other contacts that i like that it was you know stickier and more. Streamlined all that that appealed to me but at the same time i needed she was durable i wear my shoes every day and i. Wear them in a lot of different places and i end up doing a lot of hiking biking and so it was important that the. Shoe be durable this shoe as you can see. It’s a little bit simpler this is their older design this is 510 classic so it’s. Not quite as soft as the mi6 version. That you have in the contact however it’s still super sticky this is the rubber that a 510 shoes famous on flat. Pedals and so you’re not going to be. Lacking in grip it’s a little bit of. A simpler design instead of having that transition with the eba and the outsole. We just have the outsole completely sewn. In to the upper which is more of a leather and cotton construction we. Do have a toe cap but it’s not nearly as rigid as what you get on the contact the. Heel cup is a little bit rigid as well but also again not as robust as. What’s on the contact i have found this. To be a very comfortable shoe it is quite it’s you know stiffness wise not. As stiff as the contact either in contact really is probably going to be. Your higher performer but this is going to be a little bit easier to walk in for the most part that said this is way. Stickier than any sneaker you probably have so this is going to give you great. Power transfer it’s going to give good pedal feel and it’s just going to be a lot more enjoyable to ride than your. Regular sneaker so it’s a great option i. Actually thought it quite entertaining. When i first rode these shoes i realized i could still pick my foot up with the pedal at stop signs and stuff like i. Could do with my clip less pedals i mean you can easily take your pedal up. To 90 degrees if not more just by putting a slight amount of pressure on the forward on that pedal when it comes. Right up no problem so i don’t have to take my foot off and scoop up the pedal with my toe nearly as often ah that’s the main differences between those two shoes they’re both excellent shoes if you’re looking for a more durable long-term option that’s maybe a. Better value definitely go with the standard free-rider if you’re looking for the ultimate and performance and grip and protection, and they’re not. Worried about swapping your shoes out as often go with a free rider contact that. Said you know you can probably order the. Regular free rider with a little bit less risk the free rider contact you. Now if you’re ordering online there’s a good chance you’re gonna have to send it back if it’s too short because it’s not going to be comfortable if it’s at all too short and so you know if you have a chance to try it on i really recommend. That you guys have any questions please leave them in the comments down below i. May be trying to keep up with this one video week thing and maybe bump it up to. Two if we have time, so we’ll catch you later.

All right so i did a review on single. Tracks calm about these free riders and. Put more particularly it was about the free rider contact or lack thereof as. You can see, but we’ll get to that so real quickly this was my first pair. Free riders that my wife picked out the. Color these are four and a half years. Old now i think and i still wear these. At times these are a great condition durability i mean i beat these things up. They’ve been too out in the southeast. Asia Hawaii rocky mountains ozarks all. That out west moab utah i mean these. Things have been beat to snot in your. Washing machine, and they’re good both pairs were good i mean the insides award a little bit and there you can see but. Hey there’s still a great shoe they held up so then my wife gets me for my. Birthday the brand-new at the time free. Rider contact and not much of it is in. Contact well mainly solvent this shoe. Looked terrific the photos i put on single tracks calm they’re a terrific. Looking shoe they kept your feet dry. They’re lightweight, and they seem durable but, but they’re really they’re not i mean they started cracking right here on the ball of your foot pivots at. Your toes and then that is allowed moisture and water all kinds of stuff to get in their sander the reinforced toe. If these aren’t snug and tight it. Doesn’t matter there’s time when just bumps your toe that’s pretty irritable. The grip the performance of the shoe initially was it was fantastic and. People like hey this is great and the. Videos that were online okay they’re great but the durability it’s not there. It’s not there at all this came off in a manner i think in the first month or two this was already starting to separate right here on the side so just after where the stitching is here to kind of keep it on the shoe and where the ball of your foot is pivoting a lot of picking up setting it down if you do a. Lot of actual free riding and you like to have fun this is this going to get tore up and the other ones just like it — it started kind of coming apart there. Inside and then it’s just i don’t know. It was disappointing the inside stayed. Good they’re comfortable but I’ll never. Buy this type again and then again here’s another free rider went back to. This original style free rider and this. Is I’ve had these four since december. Yeah since december and these have been getting beat up as well, but they’re solid it’s like you can’t go wrong only. Think with these is they got ripped by. My straight lines i think one of the pins caught on the side you know trying. 360 i don’t know what i did but anyway. So i would stay away from the contact. The contact was not it was not a durable. Shoe at all it didn’t even last me a. Year i think six months i gave it up i went back to these started using these and then i would have these i keep these. Around if I’m if i don’t want to be these up too bad i don’t even know I’d do that sure dish winter but anyway. There’s my three to five minutes spill on why this was a poor choice and pink. And i would not get them and i would go. With something else have a good one. Ride on ride safe.

The outsole features direction specific tread patterns, with tread to propel you forward at the toe box, and opposite direction lugs at the heel to help with braking when moving downhill. Gaerne G. Kona Shoe – Men’s

Call us biased, but we think the best leg of a tri is between T1 and T2. The cycling portion is where a race can be won or lost, and if you’re looking for some lightweight, tri-specific kicks, have a look at the G. Kona Shoe from Gaerne. The brand was founded in Italy in 1962 by Ernesto Gazzola and Gaerne still builds its shoes in the old world way using the skills and traditions of expert craftsmen while utilizing modern materials. Its shoes are renowned for their durability, high quality, and technical innovations which have made it a favorite amongst triathletes.

The G. Kona is Gaerne’s only tri offering, however it shares similar details to its road offerings. It uses double hook-and-loop closures for quick adjustments on the bike and makes getting into and out of the shoes quick and easy during transitions. Additionally, a rear loop allows for quicker entries and exits and comes in handy after the swim and before the run.

For breathability and water evacuation, the upper is crafted of a soft microfiber with laser-drillings. The one-piece frontal section also minimizes stitching for a more comfortable fit. On the internal in-step, a mesh insert provides additional ventilation without sacrificing stability and support. It’s all-new injection molded anti-slip heel-cup anchors your heel in place during out of the saddle pedaling efforts and will not deform or weaken over time. It claims that this anti-tendonitis form allows for the best foot stability and control. For the footbed, Gaerne uses its lightweight Transpirant Insole which offers great comfort and is replaceable. Like the upper, the insole is perforated for maximum breathability.

For the sole, the G. Kona uses its EPS Light Evolution Sole made of nylon for cost savings and achieves a 6.0 out of 12.0 on its stiffness scale. It’s light and thin, so your foot sits close to the pedal spindle for maximum pedaling efficiency. And to keep you from slipping anytime you’re not clipped in, the sole has an anti-slip insert at the toe and heel. Lastly, reflective inserts provide maximum visibility in low-light conditions.

  • Gaerne’s tri shoe helping you set a PR on the bike split
  • Handcrafted in Italy and built to exacting standards
  • Perforated upper ventilates and allows water to escape
  • Injection-molded heel cup anchors the rear of the foot in place
  • Anatomic insole conforms to the foot for exceptional comfort
  • Nylon EPS Light Evolution Sole saves cash without sacrificing stiffness
  • Double hook-and-loop closures allow for quick adjustments and transitions
