Moab is only a small portion of Utah’s red rock wilderness, which is similar to the way the Merrell Men’s Moab 2 Mid Vent Hiking Boot makes up a small portion of your backpacking rig. Without the boot’s sturdy support and ample airflow, you probably wouldn’t be able to tackle all those miles with such a heavy backpack. It also takes grit and incredible strategic planning to find water when you need it. This is the desert, after all.
The Danner Trail 2650 Hiking Shoe was inspired by the demanding and rugged terrain found on the 2650-mile Pacific Crest Trail, but you don’t have to quit your job and live in a tent for a few months to enjoy the durability and comfort of this versatile hiking shoe. Enjoy the trails closer to home with a Vibram 460 outsole, which incorporates self-adapting lugs and Vibram’s special Megagrip compound for dependable grip on everything from muddy footbridges to rocky summits. An EVA midsole and Ortholite footbed give you underfoot cushioning for long dawn-to-dusk days, and a TPU midfoot shank also offers added support and underfoot protection on rugged trails. You’ve got a special reinforced heel counter to help keep your foot in its proper place, while the leather and textile upper gives you the perfect balance of durability, breathability, and style.
Whether you’re setting out on a long day hike in Yosemite or taking off for a weekend in the backcountry, you’ll want a burly yet comfortable boot like the Aku Men’s Alterra GTX Hiking Boot to see it all. Designed for medium difficulty and duration trekking over mixed terrain, these boots feature a medium rise for support on the trail. Aku backed the durable suede upper with a waterproof, breathable Gore-Tex Performance Comfort membrane that keeps your feet dry whether you’re splashing through streams or caught in an afternoon cloud burst. The double-density PU midsole offers cushioning and support underfoot, while the Vibram rubber sole ensures traction when you’re covering mile after mile.
Getting to crag isn’t as always easy as it sounds, so Arc’teryx designed its Men’s Arakys Approach Shoe to be as comfortable navigating steep, rocky scrambles as it is at the crag. Arc’teryx made the Arakys with a lightweight ripstop nylon upper with laminated TPU film overlays for extra protection from wear, and integrated a sticky rubber toe cap for extra bite on small edges and chips. Switching between climbing shoes and the Arakys is easy, courtesy of the one-handed memory buckle closure and the collapsible heel that quickly converts the shoe into a comfortable slipper when you’re on belay. The Arakys is built on a TPU chassis to keep it stiff and stable when the terrain is anything but mellow, and has a lightweight Vibram sole with a Megagrip compound for sure and solid footing during those more questionable approaches.
Danner took its hiking boot expertise to the streets with the Men’s Skyridge Boot. Signature Danner Dry waterproofing lets you walk confidently through harsh weather on your way to work, and the rubber sole with multi-directional lugs give you traction and stability for an evening walk in the woods. The removable OrthoLite footbed is super supportive, while the EVA midsole provides lightweight cushioning, so you’ll cruise around in comfort both in town and on the trail.
When it’s going to be a weekend spent squeezing through slot canyons, scrambling over hoodoos, and hiking through red rock landscapes, make sure you have the Merrell Men’s Moab 2 Vent Hiking Shoe on your foot to get the most out of your trip. A combination of durable leathers and mesh make up this shoe’s upper for long-lasting, breathable comfort on days where the temp heads towards triple digits, while the closed-cell foam tongue does its part to keep moisture and debris out while kicking through sandy, dried out creek beds. The contoured Merrell M Select FIT.ECO+ footbed boasts added zonal arch and heel support to meet the ever-changing desert terrain, and a reliably grippy Vibram TC5+ rubber outsole provides the traction necessary to step firmly on steep, slick rock surfaces.
Everyone I’m Adam with Merrill. Iwant to talk to you today about. One of my favorite hiking shoes the Moab to vent so. This shoe is super comfortable right out of the box. And it’s super versatile let’s take a look at kind of the DNA of the shoe. What makes it so versatile so. We look at the outsole we’ve got a V berm outsole which is really grippy but it’s also really durable so. When you’re out on the trails you’re gonna grip really well but. This shoe will last. You for years going to the mid sole we’ve got an air cushion right under your heel which absorbs a ton of impact. Whether you’re on your feet. Or out hiking into the upper we’ve got. This nice performance suede which cleans up really nice right underneath. You can see this stability band. That runs both sides of the shoe gives. It a little bit more structure so you’re gonna be well-supported like. All Merrills it’s gonna feature our typical merrill fit it’s gonna be snug in the heel precise over. That instep and really roomy in. That toe box so you get a ton of out-of-the-box comfort so. You can throw it on be on your feet.
The Asolo Men’s Power Matic 200 GV Backpacking Boot has a waterproof Gore-Tex lining and fatigue-reducing technology to keep you moving for your hardcore winter hikes. The Power Matic sole’s front density gives you maximum support, and a heel density that reduces shock and fatigue. Cylinders throughout the outsole and midsole absorb jarring from your steps, so you can take on the trail and have more energy for the long haul. The waterproof Gore-Tex lining protects your feet from those soggy spring days, and provides high breathability for the long haul. A wide fit gives your feet more comfort without sacrificing support—less squashed toes and more stability.
We do in fact as low as i mentioned. Before has been around for 35 years we’ve made premium brand products for. All that time one product that i have here is actually called the parramatta to 200 gv it is a you know. Traditional-looking leather product this one here has a real classic look to it what we’ve used is a vibram outsole bottom we have some arch supports in. Here you can see this one’s designed with three levels of polyurethane to. Really isolate key areas of the foot give you shock absorption where you want and then give you the support mechanism in areas where again you need it on the. Top we actually have a nice single piece of leather the stitching is actually protected from any snags or poles that. Might happen while you’re out there in the field and then what we really is a unique feature it’s a patented feature is this pulley system which really gives. You a nice enveloped foot wrap over the. Over the foot and isolates key areas. Again another key feature to these boots is that we use what’s called a nozzle flex board it’s been around again for probably 25 years in our line and it’s a. Preformed polypropylene board but what. It does is it disallows anything from poking up underneath gives you the proper flex and support that you need during the excursion and it’s just a key. Component that helps our boots maintain their shape and form over the course of many years just a wonderful fitting boot. You.
Seiyya just wanted to do a review for. Some boots to be solo boots. Ironically one of my body’s good friend. Contacted me last night justified any boot suggestions so I’ll quick background I’ve had danner’s had quite a. Few different kinds of really good food, and they never lasted very long I’m. Kind of rough on stuff so what i want to do is to show you a set of eight solos that I’ve had for six years they’re still running really strong I’m going to. Sit down and just kind of take the boot off and show it to you real quick and tell you why i like them and then just. Show you the leather conditioner that i use and the only reason I’m doing this. Is because i found boots that worked. For me and kind of the conditions that i deal with and i just want to kind of. Share them so yeah I’ll turn the camera. Around and just show you what I’m talking about alright guys so here the boots they’re. Made by a solo i always forget which model these are. Hopefully i can find out. I believe the newer addition of these. Are the rv and my friend literally bottom last night so I’ve had these boots for six years the reason i bought. Dj solos and i was willing to pay 240 bucks for him is because i had gotten a. Pair of a solo fugitive which are the nylon more breathable version from rei. For forty dollars from a scratching them sale, and they lasted three years which were longer than any boots I’ve had so when i started looking for another set i wanted to get all leather because the thing i saw was those fugitives even though they were really good was that the seams were the downfall the seams were where they would end up leaking or splitting so these are a solos made with. Essentially one piece leather a solo. From what i can tell are designed in italy and made in the czech republic i wish these were made stateside but you. Now the czechs are good they’re. Good at manufacturing so when my friend. Called or my friend contacted me. I and him use our stuff and we buy. Similar stuff where we buy high-end stuff, but we use it hard so i had no. Problem recommending these boots and i. Just want to go over a couple reasons why i think they lasted so long and why i like them so one first thing that. These have been they have pulley lace the. Lace holders are pulleys right here so. Not only does it kind of protect your laces they have little rollers i don’t. Now if you can see them pretty high-end little brass rollers i thought they were. A little bit of a gimmick when i first got them but what they end up doing is they make the shoe really easy to lace up and on lace they also allow the laces. To move when you’re walking which. Maintains an even tightness throughout. The boot okay the other thing is these. Are the original laces typically i go through probably a sutter to laces a year and because they’re they’re. Allowed to move they don’t rip is easily okay my friend. Was asking you know how often do you use the boots and i would say in 2016 on. These i put minimum 200 miles. Walking and I’ve had these for six years i was thinking what’s the minimum amount. Of miles i put on and i put on minimum 600 miles i would say closer to 800. Miles on use the only thing that I’ve. Had to do as far as the repair is i this little tip of the shove the boot on one. Of these was coming off and i owed it back on and now it’s probably two years ago so now i just want to get into just. Want to give you a quick. Description of how i maintain these so. One thing i do after like long hikes or. Any time they’ve gotten real dirty is i take the insole out and i get all that. Sand and all that stuff out of this insole sometimes I’ll wash it and then. The same thing where i shake the boot out really good and I’d say about twice. A year I’ll actually wash the inside of. This boot out that gets rid of all the silica and sand that can puncture this gore-tex liner and that’s that’s a lot of times what happens is you get a puncture in this liner and then the boot leaves but the. Think i love about the all leather boots is since the outside is so robust it. Really protects the inside gore-tex. Layer again as long as you get all that sand and stuff off so that’s my first advice feel good boots clean these. Insoles often clean the inside the. Boot get all that get it silicon and stand out that’s going to wear through your gore-tex liner okay the next thing. Is a shoe treatment i recently. Switched to this stuff i was looking for. My beeswax i forgot it’s called it. Started with sno but anyways it was. Abused black solution and you can’t get it anymore in a excuse me this isn’t the. Stuff I’m talking off but this is a new. Replacement so when i was looking for my old shoe treatment i went to a cobbler. And he said i like this stuff a lot. Better and guess what it’s made in the united states in green bay Wisconsin. It’s important you know i live in. Wisconsin and uh you know it’s important. To keep stuff made here so what i can say is I’ve been using this for a coastal year and what you end up doing is when you see that this leather starts to absorb a little bit of water i take. It and i run them under hot water maybe get a little soapy brush and i just get all the dirt and sand i take the laces out and i just really wash it down then i I’ll take and I’ll put up a good. Layer of this um you know I’ll put some of this on a towel and rub it around now what i do is i take either like a heat gun or a blow-dryer and you want to just. Heat it up enough so this stuff soaks into the leather and you don’t want to put too much or this soaks into the leather and then into the gore-tex liner. And you’d have to put a lot of this stuff but that’s just a little warning so in closing again I’m not doing any. Like walking through the wood scenes or anything but i have run these through. The wringer i use them for deer hunting i use them in winter i use them in the summer the one. Downside of the all leather exterior is that they are going to hold a little bit more moisture inside but for me. In Wisconsin I’d rather keep a little bit of moisture inside and keep all the. Wet dirty muck and stuff outside so I’ve. Literally had my rain pants cinched around these boots and stepped into water up to here and my feet were dry so. All i can say is if you’re looking for a. Set of high end boots i spent about three hundred forty dollars on these and i would not hesitate to do it again and. Again these are six year old boots oftentimes I’ll be it like a job site or a work site and people go man like those are nice boots you just get them they go no they’re six years old and you know other guys that are kind of in the industry that have similar experiences where the boots just fall apart you know they ask how much they are and i tell them, and they’re like you know it seems like it really it seems 100% worth it so. In my opinion these are the best boots. I’ve ever had a solos and once these. Wear out I’m going to end up getting another pair and picard’s picard’s. Leather dressing this is some of the. Best stuff alright guys have a nice day. I’m just sitting in the woods you got to. Go to school and class and then working a little bit thumbs out. She’s got the titanium canteen and the. Centerline pouch I’ll probably end up. Doing some type of review or something for that eventually but yeah just enjoy that’s my shoe selection boot selection. Boot recommendation all day.

Lots of miles anywhere from 10 to 50 mile tracks during the week and lots a. Lot the weight has been carried by this boot I’ve packed many miles in this boot and that’s what i wanted to review it by. First episode on new year’s day let me. Tell you a little bit about the features it’s a full leather boot so you can see what that means is it has leather all the way from the bottom so all the way. Up it also has a gore-tex liner inside. It if you want complete waterproof make. Sure that your hiking shoes and boots are gore-tex this boot is gore-tex the. Sole is a vibrant soles probably the best sole made on the market it has a three-quarter shank you can see climbing. Rocks your buck treeline it’s real stiff. But one thing i like about it is that right out of the box i put it on didn’t. Do a lot of break in and i didn’t have too much break in time and. Not a lot of blisters a lot of heavy heavy-duty hiking boots alpine. Boots things those things of those nature will give you blisters so this is. This boot is ideal for backpacking its carrying loads probably above 2025. Pounds of you carrying a load heavier than that going to extend day trips this is. Get incredible comfort out of the box and many miles down the trail from the Lowa Men’s Renegade GTX Mid Hiking Boot. This Lowa bestseller combines a host of performance features with a Gore-Tex waterproof breathable protection from wet, muddy trails.
We’re taking a look at the renegade. Gore-tex mid boot by lua I’ve got the. Women’s version in my hand here, but we’re going to talk about the men’s and the women’s that have a shared feature set but the women’s is built on a. Women’s specific last solo i didn’t just. Take the men’s version and make it in women’s sizes they took the fit and feel. Into consideration this is one of the. Best-selling backpacking and hiking boots on the market today this boot is. Meant for multi days on the trail for. Backpacking and day hikes as well. While some backpacking boots feel really. Rigid and heavy right out of the box i found that this boot provides enough. Support enough cushioning to support the heavyweight of a pack and fits really. Well right out of the box this is a gore-tex boot so you do have that full waterproof protection all around the boot and it is a leather nu buck upper. You’ve got some overlays in here as well. So they give added durability with that. Leather and with any leather boot there is a little bit of a break-in time so take that into consideration before you take this out on a multi-day trip taking. A look at the lacing system it’s an alpine lacing system which. You’ve got you know seven full metal eyelets and you can really dial in that. Fit by lacing those seven eyelets the. Midsole is low as mono wrap construction which is basically a pu frame that wraps. Around the foot and it comes up into the. Upper part of the boot a little bit more than I’ve seen on some other backpacking boots underfoot there’s a full-length stabilizer embedded into the mid sole and that helps just to protect and stabilize. Your foot the outsole is made of tried-and-true vibram evo and if you. Take a look at the lugs you do have a lot of traction in here a moderate-sized heel so that gives a lot of support and traction on the trail moving up just you. Now some really good traction some pretty good lugs there and you have. Some breaking lugs on the top of the boot as well so if you’re going up and down hill you’ve got confidence on all different types of surfaces the lower. Renegade gore-tex mid lightweight yet rugged and stable in all conditions it’s. Perfect for your next backpacking adventure. You. You.
hi this is Dan – two backpackers review and as you all know boots or something that you cannot skimp on in the outdoors bad pair of boots it’s going to make for a miserable experience so today we’re

Thanks whitney without door gear to meetin’s they have the women’s vast grand traverse let’s talk about the. Features first, and we’ll go into performance the grand traverse has a. Dual density eba footbed and molded eba. Midsole a suede leather upper with pu over molded mesh the vibra mivec sole. Features dual compound rubber said to maintain grip under your toes and during wet weather helps with traction under foot and beneath the heel the webbing on. Your heel helps pull the shoe on and also gives you a place to clip the shooter your harness or pack if needed weighs in at 1 pound 6 ounces these have definitely become my go-to. Day hikes scrambling and even wearing in. The office standing all day shoes because they’re super comfortable and very supportive i can wear them all day and when i get home i don’t feel like i need to rip them off which is really saying something about comfort and breath ability as far as scrambling and. Them goes they don’t have a really defined point here for edging, but they. Still do a pretty darn good job the vibra mivec sole is sticky and even an unexpected snow they did a pretty good. Job the shoe is not waterproof but like i said its kind of trade-off for how breathable they are these have become one of my favorite shoes the string and i said i definitely recommend checking them out thanks for watching its whitney with outdoor gear tv get your gear and get outside. You.
I am brian hall with fast footwear and. I’d like to talk about the grand traverse yeah we try to develop our basically a hybrid shoe here and so it. Has features of approach shoes with a. Sticky rubber outsole where we have two different rubbers mega grip more durable. In the lugs here and then a drogue rip from v broom which is their stickiest multiple compound for really good wet rock traction the mid sole is more athletic though it’s built like an athletic shoe it’s very comfortable on the foot so it’s its a blend between. Athletic performance and technical hiking this is a bba base very. Actually very lightweight evi and it has a what we call an instep shank so right in the middle we have a little piece of tpu that gives it a some rigidity and then the middle of the shoe follow the theme of athletic footwear we definitely want to have large breathable mesh in the shoe so it’s more athletically inclined it has a lot of protection elements because it is meant for more performance hiking where you’re scrambling you could be in talus fields. Things like that, so we use a polyurethane mold over the top of our mesh so it’s basically like it’s armored so very durable molded rubber toe. Cap on the front and a lace to toe system so you can really dial in your fit we use what we call it equalizer last on this the last of the form that we build this shoe around it’s definitely more technically inclined last if it’s nice and snug to the foot but not inhibiting it’s a it’s quite a comfortable shoe once you what you get it on but it is a performance base so it. Has a little bit more of a curve to it and really helps in situations where you’re in tricky hiking situations are scrambling this is a really versatile shoe so i everything from mountain biking in and with flat pedals the sticky rubber really helps great for that it’s good for hiking scrambling. Really versatile so if you’re doing a lot of different things done on the day kind of things where you’re running into a variety of terrains that you’re going through once again this is the grand traverse it retails for 129 and is available at the local retailer. You.
Just as comfortable thru-hiking the PCT as it is exploring the basic trails in your local park, the versatile Oboz Men’s Sawtooth Mid B-Dry Hiking Boot ensures a natural rolling motion on flat, smooth trails, as well as waterproof, breathable protection and a lugged, high-friction outsole for when the forecast promises heavy rains and sloppy trails.
The nubuck leather upper is equipped with a B-Dry membrane to ensure that you’ll be dry (get it?) when splashing through puddles or crossing babbling brooks, while a mesh, moisture-wicking lining keeps things breathable and sweat-free. The O-Lite insole combines low-density EVA pods with a high-density EVA sculpted arch to place your foot in a neutral position with cushioned comfort to handle endlessly rocky trails with stability. A nylon shank further adds to the stability to take on steeper slopes and uneven ground, while a 3D heel cup provides support and improves natural cushioning to keep you going through the last few miles. Rounding things out, the Sawtooth rubber outsole has toothy sidewall lugs to bite muddy terrain with traction while still conserving weight.
La Sportiva designed its Men’s Glacier WLF Mountaineering Boot to stand up to light forest management work and post-fire cleanup. The eight-inch height meets US federal standards for wildland firefighters, the heat-resistant sole is resistant to 300C, and the glue is resistant to 70C. However, this boot is not for front-line wildfire work—wear it during backpacking trips and for forest management and fire cleanup. The leather upper blocks wetness without sacrificing breathability, and the MtnFlex insole and half steel shank provide comfortable flex and protection for alpine environments.
