The Freeflex pivot provides excellent shock absorption and free foot rotation on the axle for an efficient stride. Traxion HCS carbon steel front crampons offer multidirectional traction for reliable traction on everything from powdery approaches to icy steeps. The Contact harness system utilizes Boa technology to helps you lock in the perfect fit with the twist of a dial so you don’t have to deal with pesky straps, and it cinches across any shoe whether its a hiking boot or a snowboard boot. Louis Garneau added EVA padding to prevent any discomfort during all-day excursions.

Lightec decking remains flexible in temperatures as low as -40F for ideal performance regardless of the weather, and the Connect fastener system attaches the deck to the frame to enhance durability and boost the snowshoe’s lateral traction over uneven terrain. • You guys here to do another quick kind. Of unboxing i guess this is the msr. Ascent snowshoes so I’ve got two of them. Here i kind of hiked in a little way to start this video so i did use these for. A little bit and they’re extremely light. Compared to a lot of the other snow shoes that I’ve used which is great. They’ve also got a pretty nice strap system here it just all you have to do. Are you hook it around a little hook here and then it kind of pops through the. Hole on the side and then you can just put the extra stuff in this little clip. On the end there so it stays out of the. Way if yours is your foots not in there it. Does come loose quite easily i was kind of hoping that the heels would stay in place so that i wouldn’t have to keep hooking them up and kind of figuring out where my heel needs to be every time they are marked as to where the ball of. Your foot should be so there’s a little pad here and it just says ball of foot. Right here and it marks left and right on them as well which is great because i couldn’t figure out which side was which until i found that so of course as most. Of my gear its msr i really like msl’s. Quality and these are really great as well it was kind of between these and the solid ones, and they’re not made of. Plastic but they’re made of something similar to plastic but i did decide to go with these because it is just a material here so it’d be a little bit lighter and i don’t know i kind of like. The style of these a little bit better i thought they’d have a little bit more movement make it a little bit easier on climbing cables and that kind of stuff I’ll just show you the back here as well so you’ve got a nice grip. On both sides of the back from so it’ll. Keep you from sliding side to side as well as to permanent spikes on here so. You can’t slide up and down hills and then of course you have the toe spike as well which helps you walk as you’re going uphill so on my short little hike in here i didn’t notice a lot of kick up of snow every time you take a. Step how the that kind of catches up to you i didn’t really notice a lot of that my pants are still pretty dry of course. There’s a little bit but that’s pretty much with every snowshoe I’ve ever and it always kind of kicks up a little bit but this one’s not too bad it’s as well. Got the foot rail here just makes it a little bit easier if you’re climbing up hills so rather than having your foot come all the way back to the base here every time it’ll stop right up here and. It just makes it so that it seems like you’re walking on a little bit of flatter ground haven’t tried this out yet um there are quite a few mountains right around where i am here but I’m not quite into that much of a hike today i just went skiing all morning so i thought I’d try and get this out does a. Nice little review of these while i was here so other than that like i said. It is msr, so they’re great snowshoes never had a problem with any msr product. I’ve ever used everything’s lasted me at least three. Four years before I’ve even had to start. Thinking about replacing it most of the msr stuff i have still hasn’t worn out and I’ve had it for 10 years 15 years even on some of them i. Think so i know my tent I’ve had for. Probably four years now and it’s as good. As the day i purchased it like it’s just great materials create everything so. Hopefully these will be the same I’m a little bit worried about the material here i have to see how it does in like -. 40 – 50 if I’m out hiking but hopefully. It’ll last seems to be a pretty good material and i can’t imagine a mess i. Would make it out of something that wouldn’t be able to handle the colder temperatures so I’m just gonna bring the. Camera in a little bit closer and then I’ll show you guys how i hook these up and then I’ll probably roll in some. Hiking footage as well just so you can see what the kick ups like and how they. Actually look when they’re on your feet you’re right back. So they’re super easy to get into just got to kind of move all the stops over the way and then put your foot in make. Sure it’s right in the right spot here all right where it says the ball of your foot schools to me and make sure you got it on the right foot as well and these i like to start at the heel just because. That kind of centers in where everything. Else is gonna go so i put my heel in tighten it up and then just kind of make. Sure your foots comfortable where it is there and then i work my way towards the. Toe now I’m not sure if this is the. Right way to do it but this is just the way that I’ve been doing it so you have a different way let me know in the comments and i don’t know maybe I’ll try. Your way maybe it works better I’m not sure so just working your way all the. Way up to the front kind of move these. Strap holders back a little bit so i hold more of the strap. Kind of one of the disadvantages to these compared to an atlas pair. That i tried on one of my other videos is with the atlas pair you just kind of. Slid your foot in and then you pulled one string in it tightened all of them which is really nice but i think this. Will be a little bit better if there’s a lot of ice and stuff around it just because it’s such an easy strap on the. Side there and it just pops right out whereas at the atlas ones you had to push a button and if there was ice stuck in there or there was too much snow like. Your foot was in too deep in the snow it might be a little bit hard to undo but. As far as these go that’s as easy it is as it is to tie up so I’ll just. Put on the other one here and then I’ll go for a little bit of a hike. So actually luck don’t happened to be a. Nice little frozen stream out here so i actually got to test them out on a little bit of ice and from what I’ve. Walked around on its own fire it’s actually being really good there’s no side to side slipping like even if i try. And slide side to side to make me say exactly where they’re supposed to be the toe grip works great on it heel is good. As well having those two horizontal and two horizontal spikes on here makes it. Really easy so I’m not worried about sliding forward or backwards at any point in time you know this isn’t exactly the most solid ice in the world it is a little bit flexible but it’s as. Good as i can get for right now i guess it’s a little bit weird that it’s about completely frozen over at this time of year it’s been – 25 – 30 degrees Celsius. For the last couple weeks here and. There’s actually a little bit of slush just a little ways up there so it is a little bit warmer today it’s only about minus 11 degrees Celsius so it’s not too. Bad but I’m actually really happy that it worked really well on this ice that means my adventures can go quite a bit further out and maybe do a couple lake crossings river crossings that kind of thing depending on how frozen the river is. And of course you wouldn’t want to walk across the river that wasn’t frozen anyways thanks for watching this review and i guess unboxing of the msr. Lightning ascent snow shoes see you guys for my next adventure review thanks for watching.

These are msr lightning trail snowshoes. These shoes are built to provide excellent performance on rolling terrain they’re lightweight, and they have adaptability when snow conditions call for greater flotation to keep from sinking too deeply the frames of the. Snowshoes are made of lightweight but highly durable aluminum and the urethane. Decking across the top of the frame helps to keep you up on top of the snow if you look closely at the frame you’ll. See that there are basically teeth cut right into it, and they go a long way to providing all the traction that you need a stainless steel toe crampon then goes. Even further to ensure confident grip with each step the crampon is designed. To pivot and move freely but do so. Without over rotation that can trip you up couple this with the frames. Ergonomic shape and you have a snowshoe that allows you to maintain a natural stride pattern msrs duo fit bindings. Have two four foot straps and a heel strap that simple design is straightforward to use and provides a broad range of fit adjust ability for. Different sized feet and a variety of footwear styles the shorter length is. Best for up to 180 pounds with that way. To include you your clothes footwear and any gear you might be carrying the 25. Inch is best for 120 to 220 pounds. Note that the snowshoes do have a modular design and you can pair them with msrs lightning tails for use in. Really soft snow or if you need to accommodate even more weight those tails. Are sold separately, but they’re a great investment that increases the versatility of your snowshoes providing ultra lightweight traction for rolling. Some things about this I’ll show you the. Problem is that you got these little. These kind of hold tight they kind of. Come out real easily see how that kind of comes out one idea of mine was to put. This over here but then this gets loose. Where this little knob is what you 2%. Put like a washer i think that’s. A good idea I’ll do that because if you. Let it flop around it’s gonna eventually flop out and when it’s flopping around out of the tooth or. You can secure this thing the better off. You’re gonna be so but i don’t have any. Oh rings on me right here these. Are outdoor research gators they’re always great you can’t go wrong with those so this is my review of the tubbs. Snowshoes wilderness 25 inch so we just. Bought these shoes last week and will. Fire them up today really good ability. To grab on to snow and ice they’re very. Comfortable very easy to get out-and-out. Of but what the deal is you just pop. This off and then it just goes right. Back into the snap you snuck that all the way down and then you can cinch this. This draft tore it snugs now so the back. One you usually just let that stay where. It is so that’s really just the once snapped it again — very easy the. Drawback to that is that if you get a. Pressure point here or here your only option is to just let the tension off of this with the msr. Lightning’s you have three straps so you. Can just loosen up one of the three. Straps that’s causing a pinch point the. Lightning has a much better grip and that uses a rail here and these just use. Two so the lightning is going to be much better going off often off and off. Camber slope then these are. Great for just deep snow or. Packed snow where it’s fairly level they’re really light they’re really easy. To get in and out of lots of movement. You feel like you’re barely even wearing a snow chute they do make them and. I think a 22 or 23 and that’d probably. Be fine too, so they’re like a i think we. Got these for like a hundred and eighty dollars with twenty percent off, so they’re not cheap, but they’re good they’re really good shoes but so these. Are keeper so the the just msr. Lightning a sense gonna be better for more icy off camber slopes then this. Would would be but not many people. Do that kind of stuff that’s pretty hardcore the msr lightnings a little bit lighter. Then these and these are pretty light so. There’s a point to where they can make. Then so light that they just break so I’m very pleased with these and big. Thumbs up snow to get out of them all. You do push this button that pulls the. Flash loose and you’re pretty much done then you can just pretty much just step out of them done very simple there’s. Still, a little bit of grab but you don’t want them to just fall off your feet very nice.

So today I’m very excited to show you guys some cool snow shoes from msr it’s. Their lightning explorer they come in all different series in all different sizes, and we’re gonna talk about that today so as far as selecting snow shoes. It’s pretty easy you want to select them based on what activities you’re going to be doing whether it’s just light walking in the woods or something like that trail running for example you’re going to use these smaller and lighter weight. Ones if you want to select the larger ones for when you’re going to be carrying a heavier load like i often do when you’re in the back country so these are the 30-inch-long model these will support a lot of weight so i can wear a fully loaded pack and still have the support from this 30 inch long snowshoe. You want to make sure that the bindings that they have will fit the type of shoe that you’re going to be wearing again these hyper link bindings from msr will. Fit my regular you know spring summer fall hiking shoes as well as my larger. Winter boots these have brass all the way around the edges they have pretty sharp bottoms to them, so they work really well when digging in to the side of a hill for going up hill for example, and they work really well for just. Getting traction no matter what surface you’re on or how deep the snow is again they’re long so that they support you no matter how much load you’re carrying they have the hyperlink bindings which have the access gate technology you can pull the cord. Here and adjust them left and right so that you can adjust it to the gate of your or the type of stance you have so. That they’re not clicking together when walking and then finally on the back here you have this televator which you can put up which is useful for when walking uphill it makes it so that your boot instead of going up hill like that will go up hill like that much easier to. Climb steep hills with now the msr lightning explorers feature access gate. Technology and what that is its a little cord that you can pull here you. Can actually rotate the binding so instead of walking on the ground. Pigeon-toed like that where the backs might click each other when you walk you can adjust it to your normal stride, and they tell you how to do that you basically just take a few steps stop and look down at your feet if they’re open like that you can simply adjust the access gate to. Accommodate and therefore you’ll keep walking in a straight line and your snowshoes won’t click together these snowshoes also come with a longer strap so you can quickly and easily pull out the shorter strap pull it all the way. Out put in the new strap and then you can accommodate larger boots so if you have smaller boots you’d use the smaller straps the larger boots you use the larger straps the bindings are very easy to use you simply just depress these two buttons on the side and you can quickly and easily release the straps. Now I’ve already adjusted these for larger boots because i generally will wear them with my larger winter boots very easy to do just step in to the. Binding and with one hand and simply. Just tension the top and then you just. Lift the lever here and it will ratchet the top down same with the back here. Just slide strap through the binding and. Then ratchet it tight. Much easier and much faster to walk when. You’re not sinking in the snow if you’re. Gonna be going uphill you can just lean your foot forward and pop up the. Stabilizer for your back foot there and. Then it makes going uphill much easier the hyperlink bindings are very. Easy to release as well you simply just press the two tabs and you can lift your foot up and it will come right out there’s also a grab handle here that you can use to pull if there is ice buildup or a lot of snow or something like that but basically you just get the binding. Off and your foot will come right out you can get packs that are specifically made to carry things like snowshoes and skis this sabra pack for example has really long lashings in the front so if you come across terrain where you don’t need the snowshoes you can quickly and easily clip them to your pack and you barely know they’re there another great feature about snowshoes is you can use them to pack down the snow in a perimeter for example for use with my teepee or other shelter. Snowshoes make it very simple to signal. From the ground to the air just by spelling out a word snowshoes are as well. Very handy for using as a shovel for doing things like digging a trench in. The snow or for putting on the side of your shelter for that extra bit of added. Insulation so as you can see snowshoes. Are pretty dang useful not only for keeping you above the snow and making. Walking much easier in the wintertime but you can also use them for other things like signaling or for tamping down a surface for setting up a shelter for example msr makes some great snowshoes they’re very lightweight even when i throw them on my pack i hardly noticed they’re there they’re very easy to walk in even for a beginner, and they have a great product selector on their web page where you can put in the type of activity you’re going to be doing, and they will select the right pair for you I’m going to leave a link below to msrs website as well as the link to amazon where you can pick up and purchase a pair for yourself as well as check current pricing i hope you guys enjoyed the video today please give it a big thumbs up for me leave me some comments below share this video your friends and family on social media and you can follow me on my social media as well and don’t forget below this video there’s a big red subscribe button if you haven’t already clicked it pleases do so and subscribe for more videos.
