  • What so kitty is rocking some new trekking poles. Igot the Black Diamond distance flz the carbon fiber. You like them so far super light hey what’s up guys Devin here with back country exposure we’re going to talk about trekking poles today but specifically the distance carbon flz poles from Black Diamond as I’ve gotten older. Ihave really become to enjoy trekking poles as a great option to help. Me hike further more comfortable in the back country so let’s go ahead. And talk about these carbon flz distance poles from Black Diamond. These are easily the. Most expensive pole. Ihave ever owned as far as trekking poles are concerned. Now I’ve used a lot of different trekking poles over the years I’ve had Black Diamond poles I’ve had two sets of Black Diamond poles actually but not as expensive as. These are I have they’re like trail series. That are an aluminum pole which is a three-piece extendable Pole. This is like their Z breakdown type thing which I’ll show.

You here in a second. And then I’ve used poles from Perea outdoor products I’ve used poles from wild horn Outfitters mountain Smith’s a lot of different brands. And essentially like trekking poles are. All basically the same. You really think about. It but there are certain aspects to a trekking pole. That make them more comfortable. Or super lightweight. This case this is a full carbon pole so. What you’re looking at is basically the entire shaft of the pole is carbon fiber. This pole set comes in at just under a pound total which is crazy lightweight. And that’s something. Ireally like about. These poles is I’ve been using them for the past.

Several months they’re just so light. And so easy to use they make traveling with them really easy. One of the things I don’t necessarily like about. This pole though is the fact. That like Z shape breakdown which I’ll go ahead. And show you right. Me lower this down push. This button in so essentially the pole breaks down in. This sense so it makes. It a really small package to be able to put in your backpack. And such but if I’m using this for a tarp type situation. Iam setting up a shelter using trekking poles then. Idon’t have as much versatility in being able to drop. One end of the tarp by lowering the length. Or shortening the length of the pole like. Ican with those 3-piece poles like the wild horn Outfitters ones. Or like the other Black Diamond trail series. Ihave so something to think about. You are considering but. If you’re using a pole like. This it’s super lightweight to just hike fast really quick distances which essentially.

This distance series from Black Diamond is meant. More for that type of setting but such a lightweight pole. That it’s nice to have on the trail for any type of activity. That you’re doing now. These does have this classic Black Diamond flick lock system to. That open then I’m able to extend. This to the different lengths. Ihave so this pole happens to be the 105 to the 120 centimeter. They do have a shorter. And then also a longer. This looking at the top of the pole you’ve got a molded evie a foam. Ido really like they put. These cutouts into the foam so. This makes it breathes really well on your hand so. That you’ve got not sweaty hands every time. You are hiking but let. Me explain one thing.

Ido not like about. This pole in particular I’m not a huge fan of black diamonds system right here. Where they’ve got this piece of cordage around through the inside of the pole. Now base typically what this does is. Istick my hand through. It allows for a little bit better articulation but. Inotice that right here on the top of my hand. Where my thumb wraps around. Ikind of digs in this is sewn right here. It could just be it set right. Now but the fact that like. That is right on where my hand rubs. Where I’m trying to push down. It does cause a little bit of pain. And discomfort right on my hand so. Iwas using the pole just like. This lets’s see I came down in. This manner which is not the recommended way of using a trekking pole then.

It would be more comfortable but coming up through. And utilizing the strap around your wrist to effectively put the weight on the pole. This type of sit setup with. This strap is not ideal. Ido like how I’ve seen on a bunch of other poles. Even like Leki poles. And the mountain Smith wands lots of different brands. This strap will attach onto the inside. And kind of come over top of itself instead of wrapping around a piece of cordage in for a pole that’s almost $200 in price. Something that can be kind of frustrating so. We take a look on the bottom end of the pole. They do have a carbide tip on here. You have the option as well with.

What comes with the pole to be able to switch out. This tip to just like kind of standard rubber tip but the carbide tip is pretty standard for any kind of trekking pole. And then with the fact. They break down into such a small package is a really cool thing, so I’m going to show. More time you guys are probably familiar with. And other types of poles but black diamond basically are the brand. That revolutionized. What trekking poles are capable of doing and really good designs the flick lock is. One of their cool things so really small package. And then to extend you basically drop those together. And then slide this top tube down. That gives you your rigid pull so again a full carbon fiber pull really lightweight the pair is just under a pound like. Imentioned before I am a little concerned about. This button is gonna hold up over time against the carbon fiber but. It should be okay the other carbon fiber pulls. Ihad were from Fox tele. That pole actually ended up breaking which was pretty unfortunate but there’s a good amount of flex in there but.

They are super strong. And have a lot of like trust in them. And they’re just a great Pole in general I’m rambling at. This point but should. Somebody spend a hundred. And eighty dollars on. This pole that’s totally up to. You could get away with other types of carbon poles but. They are super lightweight. That black diamond really has a great product here well guys so. That is the carbon flz distance poles from Black Diamond. These things are awesome. You want to spend a hundred. And eighty dollars on a set of trekking poles definitely check. These out obviously there are other options out there but. This is a great one to look at so thank. You so much for watching guys I’m gonna head back out on the trail. And get on hiking and as always please subscribe to the channel. You guys have an awesome day.

Just don’t grab on Tennessee not to want to just fold. It these are the Black Diamond ultra distance hiking poles what’s left of. One of them and that’s. It and the other one. And I just managed to break. This one hiking yesterday. And I never imagined. That I’d be able to do. It this is the break. That happened while. Iwas hiking well first of. All let me show you. How they work, so they’re really a nifty little design little silver button. You push here and that pulls collapse partway up into the handle. And then you can open. These two gaps and. They turn into one third their length. And they’re extremely light. Because they’re carbon fiber to do. And so they’re really easy to use. And the only thing you can’t do with. These and with a metal poles. You can adjust the lengths but after a. While you get used to. That and then lightweight makes. It super easy to move them around quick. And very low fatiguing nice comfortable grip handles. Iwould love these poles use them for four five years ago yesterday for five years long time right here breeze that’s why it broke right there. And that’s because there’s a hole for the button otherwise it’s a continuous tube so.

When you put enough stress on. It won’t Bend just snap. And then it’s dead so. Ibroke it here just in order to be able to fold. It up and put it on my backpack. And carry it out but it’s just a word to the wise. That these carbon-fiber poles as great as. They are they have limitations. And I guess maybe I’ll go back to metal. Because if you fall down. And this happens this pole is completely worthless. And you will hike out without. It but don’t use. It they’re super light right, but they’re super light yeah it’s a trade-off between. What you want you know. How much strength you need. And whether how important. It is that it never break versus the ease of use of what’s the brand of. This again black dynamic diamond okay reputable mate did.

They have a model number on. That particular one. And it’s just called the ultra distance so to distance Agricola ultra distance equal pull. This happens to be a 130 centimeter length difference so it’s. All right with your fiber hiking poles your hand is safe but the pole is broken. Igotta get some new poles cool see out there so. It looks like okay alright guys so. That was the black diamonds ultra distance poll. And this thing is super lightweight. And my dad mentioned. It but this is crazy lightweight like. You would even imagine. How easy this thing is to move maneuver around. He was just saying how. When you’re hiking you can just go really quick with.

It and hold yourself up super easy so. This is a great hiking pole just be careful. When you’re falling and hey. You always know I always take the necessary precautions. If you feel like you’re gonna fall. And hurt yourself put the pool in the way. And break the pole but. You know these things are not indestructible but. They are amazing or they’re made for and. That is for super lightweight hiking assistance so click the link in the description I’ll give. You guys a link to go buy the pole. And if you use that link go support my channel I’ll bring you. Cooler videos and hit. Me up maybe we’ll go hiking some see.

The Black Diamond Women’s Trail Trekking Poles are the perfect balance between features durability weight. And cost The standout feature of these poles is the collapsibility These are a telescoping three section pole And. They have two Black Diamond FlickLocks These locks are really easy to. Us As the name suggests. You need to do is flick them open with your thumb adjust. It to the proper height. And flick them closed It is as easy as. That There is no questioning of. Whether the lock is secure enough It is just flick open. And flick closed These are durable aluminum construction but the weight is also pretty low for these poles Moving to the top of the poles. You have really durable dual density foam grips And the thing I really love about foam grips is. That in warmer weather. If your hands are perspiring this is really going to wick away sweat. It is not going to feel slippery. Anything like that And then in colder temperatures. It doesn’t feel cold. That foam Also you are wearing gloves grip really well on. That foam At the top of the pole. You have a nice flat surface So. You need to you can palm the top If. You are going down hill. You just want to use the pole in.

That way And then below the standard grip. You have an extended grip It comes pretty far down the pole This is great for when. You are hiking on uneven terrain. You don’t want to make quick adjustments but. You just want to grab the pole at different lengths It makes. It really easy to just grab a hold of. That And then we are up here at the top. You do have a really nicely padded strap It is a pretty thick webbing strap So. It gives you a lot of protection. It really cradles your hand really well This is an adjustable strap It is really easy to adjust All. You have to do is pull on the top to make. It longer or shorter depending on your preference. And then it just takes. That pressure off of your wrists as. You are hiking Moving down the pole to the tip. You have Black Diamond’s flex tech tips So.

This is a press fit tip It is a replaceable piece so. You are in the unlikely situation. This pole stuck between two rocks. Or in a position that might damage the pole. This tip is meant to break first before the actual shaft sections of the pole That protects your pole. And like it is a replaceable piece so after years of use. You want to just replace. You can buy a separate set. And replace them At the bottom of. This tip this actually is a carbide tip. That is on their right. You can buy a rubber tip separately And. You basically just screw. That off and screw the other. One on You can also buy tip protectors. That go over top but those are sold separately as well Right.

Ihave a low profile basket. That comes with the poles on. You can basically screw. This off and put on a winter basket There are threads on. This tip so you just take. This basket off and included with. These poles is a winter basket So. That also adds a lot of value to the pole As. These are telescoping poles So with the three sections. This adjusted out to the maximum usable length which is about 125 centimeters. Or about 49 inches When. You compact these down. They actually compress down to be pretty small So. They com-press down to be about 23 inches. And the useable length here is from 100 centimeters. All the way up to 125 centimeters And. What is different about the women’s poles They have a different range of adjust ability And because of.

They are a little bit lighter All in. These are a really great durable multi-use pole They are easy to use with those Black Diamond FlickLocks. You get a lot of features a lot of innovation for a really great price They are the Black Diamond Women’s Trail Trekking Poles.

My new Black Diamond trail ergo cork trekking poles hey. Everybody its marked a lost traveler. And we’re ready to travel. Everybody this is going to be a quick overview of the Black Diamond trail ergo cork trekking poles. They come in this box right here. You open everything up to get. These instructions on the do’s. And the don’ts of the poles. What I like about these poles prepare 512 grams. Or 1 pound and 2 ounces the extended link is 69 to 140 centimeters. Or 27 inches to 55 inches. You collapse these down they’ll go to 69 inches on the ends there as. You can see there’s a 38 millimeter trekking basket. And to take these off. You just pull down and unscrew counterclockwise. That way you can put different baskets on their just a depending on the season. And the terrain that you’re gonna be in. And on the end these tips here. These will unscrew to so. You can replace those on the end of.

Ihave just a protection so. You have anything like your backpack. You have it stored somewhere. You know this won’t. You know do any games to. Whatever you have around. This is three for this. One down here three telescoping ends here already got. This is a moon shaft. This has to flick locks just like. Isaid flick that open. And then snap this is a lot better. Than those screw types. That are a lot of poles. And those things get messed up plus. You know you really put. Some force on there those things like the slide so. These right here that locked in. This is not moving if. You need to adjust the tightness on. This chute right here. You can use a Phillips screwdriver. Or a flathead screwdriver. This has pork grips which. Ireally like it absorbs. All the sweat everything usually. You have the foam type. Or the plastic you know. They get all kind of like mucky.

And sweaty and it’s just the grips not very good then. You have a lower foam extension here. These are fusion straps. And then on one of these as. You can see I don’t know. It in there or not but there’s a. This down there’s a left. And a right and to adjust. These just pull on the top. And then just pull this little tab down. Some people I was on the Black Diamond video. You don’t want to come up above. And put your arm down. And grab you happen to fall down see. How your hand gets kind of stuck there you’re not gonna be able break your fall so. You want to come from underneath. And grip the pole so. You fall see how your hands-free like. That so that’s a good safety tip there on the pole itself. You can see all the numbers there for the top half. And then I’ll flick. And just extend that out so there’s.

All your numbers and centimeters. One thing about these is. These won’t rub off. Some of these guys have had. These poles for three. And four years and the numbers. You can actually still see them so. Iguess they’re like maybe lasered on there. Something I think I’m not really sure but that’s. And then you want to set. It up after you get your link down. You want your armor on. Ican get in the footer but. You want basically a 90 degree angle there on your elbow. All right so you like. These again are the Black Diamond trail ergo cork trekking poles. And I’ll leave some links at the bottom alright. That note traveler oh. Iswallowed a bug on. That note traveler out.

This entire section here at the bottom of the lowest shaft section The flex does indicate the fact. That there is a little bit of give here It helps to protect the actual shaft section So. You were to wedge these in such a fashion.

You could potentially be breaking the actual shaft section. This would instead sheer away which is good news. This is a replicable part sold separately but easily replaced Broken shaft section especially out in the back country could be a much bigger problem The very end here is the carbide portion of the Flex Tech tip So. It comes into con-tact with the ground If. You are on dirt packed trails. This is certainly what you would want coming into contact with the ground itself The tech naming in. This tip indicates that can actually be unscrewed entirely taken off. And replaced by a small custom fit rubber tip which would be preferable. You were using these on improved surfaces. Or primarily on rock You actually get better performance there That is sold separately but again.

You can purchase and have a. More permanent or semi permanent placement You an also separately buy tip protectors basically a cap. That goes over the entire tip end Also want to point out. This small diameter piece here It is a basket It is designed to keep the poles from sinking too deeply into the ground so. You get the leverage of the. Off of the poles you would expect If. You wanted to use these poles in snow deep powder things of. That nature Black Diamond does include broader diameter baskets here They screw right into place. Hi I’m Jordan these are the Alpine. And carbon core trekking poles by Black Diamond. It for about two and a half years. Ihave really put these things through the wringer they’re awesome I’ve seen a couple of videos. Where people have mentioned them breaking a little bit down low I’ve really torqued. These things they have not broken. It just kind of depends on the angle. And kind of how cautious. You are with them but to tell. You a little bit about. It I’m gonna start from the top. And go work my way down up here it’s got a nice little rubberized grip it’s kind of textured like a golf ball I’m not sure. If the new ones have. This old one still has. And it’s really nice. It feels good on your thumb. You hold your poles like. This sometimes it fits nicely in the palm of your hand. These guys are removable. These little straps they’re pretty nice. You can adjust them. Idon’t really use them too much but sometimes they’re nice to have. Something there just in case. Something really steep. And sketchy and you’re worried about dropping your poles. And a big part about. This cork right here it’s kind of where the name comes from carbon fiber cork. It real original but the cork is really solid over time. It really just feels like. It kind of I’m not it doesn’t shape to your hand but.

It grows more comfortable the. You know your sounds are gross but your oils. Everything sweat it just feels really good in the palm of your hand. When you’re hiking really grippy you’re not gonna let go of. You open up your hand the new ones have a little bit of a different shape of the cork compared to. This old ones I’ve had. These for like two and a half years. And they’ve changed a little bit over time. They don’t have this little grip rest on the new. One which I love it’s great to put your index finger on their just feel solid in your hand. They do still have this little section right here. Ibelieve to rest the rest of your hand really good really an ergonomic. They feel great one thing you want to be careful of with cork anytime you’re buying it is leaving it around for animals puppies.

And marmots love to chew the hell out of these things. This my right one has been just destroyed by a marmot from a year. Or two ago I was camping I can’t remember. Ilike left it somewhere. And the little guy started nibbling on. That is uh you definitely feel. You have to be kind of careful with court didn’t get to the foam. Though so a little bit below the cork is. This foam area it’s got a couple little slots in there it’s kind of nice to grip on. Idon’t ever use it I’ve seen a couple other reviews of people talking about. This set of poles they don’t really use. You can kind of choke up on. If you’re getting on. Some higher terrain. You know you’ve got. Some rocks things like. That you’re really working up but. Idon’t really use that often it’s just a little bit extra weight but who cares. These are trekking poles it’s not. That big of a deal to. Me so the construction of these poles is pretty solid. They extend all the way to about 135 centimeters.

Ibelieve and then that’s. Where they’re gonna break off to. That stopping point yeah so. You get about 100 335 centimeters I’m about 510. This is fully extended for me. Iusually rest mine at. Both of these points at 125 centimeters. And that’s just fine it’s good. They have a little bit of. This length you extend them so. That way if you’re pitching a mid shelter. You want your tarp to be a little bit higher. You have that flexibility with. Ihave to commend these flick locks pretty well they’re pretty solid. They will open up a little bit. You hit them just right like. That like on a branch but for the.

Most part they’re gonna stay locked. And they’re gonna stay solid. Ireally do prefer these over black diamond z formation. They have with like. That little rubberized wire in between there. Idon’t like I don’t think it’s very solid. You can kind of go like. This with I feel like it’s just gonna bend. And break on me I’m not gonna have. Any problems with this my only negative kind of complaint about the flick locks is. You can’t really close. All the way it would put too much pressure on the carbon fiber. Ithink maybe I’m a limp. Or a coward I don’t know. Ijust don’t want to put. That much strain on such a small like narrow diameter area of carbon fiber but. That constructions really good. You know you can really just tank. These things in this stuff. And they’re not gonna go anywhere they’re fantastic going down here. You can use these as ski poles.

Ihaven’t skied with them I’m not much of a skier but. Idid a friend that uses. He likes them you can put different baskets on there it’s very customizable to your preferences. Ican’t really elaborate too much on. Idon’t ski much but I’m a buddy who really does like black diamond poles. He does have a pair of these. He does take scheme. He likes them this little bit right here. It warps over time I have beaten the crap out of. And so that’s why it’s kind of torn up a little bit but. It still spends a little bit. It really has held on impressively. You can take it honors put. It off its kind of up to your preference but. Ijust kind of keep them on there just, so I’ve got. Something there and then working our way down to the very end of the shaft is.

You have the big old buddy the carbon corks carbide tip so carbide is a way to go with. These things this thing hasn’t lost. Any kind of formation at. All no dings nothing it is just great. It grips into all sorts of surfaces it’ll grip in the wood it’s gonna leave a mark. It really grips in the granite well here in Colorado we’ve got tons of granite. You can just dig this guy into. Some of those little rock faces. And it’s gonna stick. And it’s solid you know. Ifeel like I’m losing my balance. Something I’m good I know it’s gonna catch. And it’s gonna stick. It really doesn’t tear up the rock at. Unless using it on something porous like sandstone which. You probably should know going in. That it’s gonna tear. It up yeah overall these are really good they’re definitely by no means the lightest out there they’re kind of heavy they’re almost a pound for the pair but.

They are so solid I really depend on. It as a shelter piece. If you’re using mids. Ihave an ultimate this with. And same with my tarp. Irely on you know. You can dig it into the ground. This as my platform. This guy’s not going anywhere. Iwant to do it the other way. Iwant to have a really solid top to my shelter. Ican dig this guy down at the very bottom out. It on the ground maybe an inch. And it’s not going to go anywhere wiggle. And really high winds. And they’re really solid. You combine them together for those shelter setups but overall it’s a really great pole. Ido recommend it definitely checks. It out before it make sure the script feels good to. You don’t like the way. It feels there’s some really good Leki poles out there. Irecommend they might be just a little bit. More comfortable for your hiking style but overall great poles for all sorts of uses from I’ve used. This thing in the mountains here in Colorado. These on the Kalalau trail out in Hawaii a couple months ago I’ve used.

These things everywhere. And they’re probably. One of the best investments. That I’ve made you just can’t go wrong with them yeah so. These are the Black Diamond Alpine carbon cork trekking poles. And hopefully this will help. You in your decision-making and thank. You for watching very much have a good day.

Hey folks in this installment of the gear yak I’m going to be talking about the Black Diamond Alpine Peugeot cork trekking poles let’s do. Iput my first set of trekking poles before a trip to the Adirondacks high peaks region. And since then if they’ve been a really great addition to my kit over the years I’ve come to depend on them. Iam NOT nearing backpacking or day hiking in general. Iused my trekking poles to help assist in balance then. Iuse them to help distribute weight isn’t to help set my pace. And occasionally I use them to set up my tarp into porch mode on my hammock. These trekking poles are three section poles the bottom sections are carbon fiber. And have length indications painted on the sections the upper section is aluminum carbon fiber is light but. Some durability is going to be sacrificed for the weight savings. These poles use the flick lock Pro locking mechanism. Each pole has two low profile locks. That offer a visual assurance. They are in fact locked unlike the twisty ones I’ve never had a lot disengage unintentionally the locks are a stainless steel design with minimal plastic they’re easy to lock.

And unlock even with gloves on the usable lengths are between 39. And 51 inches and collapses 30 inches long. Although I thought. That the collapse size would be a little bit too long for my purposes. That I’ve had no issues a pair of these trekking poles weigh in at. One pound 39 ounces. Or about 10 ounces apiece 9 ounces. You remove these straps the. Most important aspect of these poles at least to. Me are the handles are offset about 15 degrees from the main shaft which gives an ergonomically as well as reducing some strain on the wrist also a cord grip was important to. Iprefer the way it feels. And the moisture resistance. It offers another great feature is the extended non-slip foam grip.

It turns out this feature has changed the way. That the pole over the years have been extending the pull a little bit longer. And then gripping a half-way on the cork. And halfway on the foam. This allows me to move my grip up. Or down making micro adjustments as needed but not having to adjust the length of the pole over. All my hands has never slipped on. Either the foam or the cork portions of these poles the top of the pole is plastic. It offers a good place to put your palm especially. If you’re you’re holding the poles extended out from your palms. You know getting a little bit further reach never slipped with. That grip either as for the straps. Icut them off before. Even take these poles out straps are usually is for two reasons. One to transfer the your weight to the pole.

Another would be to protect yourself from a slip of your hand slips. You don’t lose the pole. And tumble over personally. Ifind the straps to be a bit of a nuisance. Because at least on. This type of pole where I’m constantly moving my grip up. And down on me on the foam. And cork portions of the handle. That would require me to make changes to the strap as well. Ijust don’t have time for. Idid away with them moving to the bottom of the pole. We have the flex tip. This houses the carbide a portion of the tip which offers good bite into. Any type of material. That you’re going to be hiking over the entire flux tip portion is replaceable. And Amazon sells a pair for about 10 bucks which is a pretty good deal by carbide tips are generally in good conditions. Iuse a trekking pole tip protector not necessarily. Iwant to protect the tip but. This grips rock pretty well.

This rubber grips rock pretty well. And unlike the carbide tips. These don’t make a noise. You walk they don’t leave marks on the rocks. If you’re in a area. That generally has some rocky terrain you’ll see big scrape marks from the carbide tips. They scrape down the rock faces like FEMEN cells a rubber tip. You can replace the carbide tip. And the flex tip portion of the trekking pole I’ve never used them so. Ican’t speak to those the flux tip also secures the basket to the pole generally just use the trekking basket but. They also have snow baskets. They easily screw on. And off I’ve never had an issue with. Ileave the trekking basket on. Unless it’s obvious. That I’m going to need. Something a little bit bigger the primary function of baskets general is to keep the pole tip from plunging too far into.

Whatever you know mud. That you’re walking on also like. Yet a little less effective. It should keep the pole tip from going between getting jammed between rocks. And that’s primarily. Where you’re gonna break your pole. Or bend your pool I’ve never had a basket fall off of. Any of my poles alright so. What are some of the pros. And cons of the Black Diamond flip block Alpine Peugeot cork trekking pole starting with the cons they’re probably not as durable as their aluminum counterpart. They aren’t the lightest weight carbon-fiber trekking pole. You can buy and at 140 to 170 dollars. That is pretty steep for not getting the lightest but the pros are they’re really comfortable. That lightweight they feel really sturdy. All the features do exactly. What you expect them to do. That consistency is. What I’m really looking for when I’m buying a product to use new outdoors Amazon currently shows a 45 out of 5 star rating from the reviewers 48 reviewers.

And it’s much like them. Irecommend this product it’s great functioning consistent product. Ireally enjoy but that being said there is a newer model out there. And there are two major differences the newer model is lighter by almost three ounces. They offer a 360 degree strap. Idon’t know that means. Iprobably wouldn’t use. Ithink the trekking pole is overall pretty much the same well that’s. It thanks for watching let’s subscribe. Iwill talk to you guys later

All right today we are going to be reviewing the Black Diamond Alpine carbon cork trekking pole. These a couple years ago. And I’ve used them successfully for several seasons. Now actually I think I’ve had them for four. Or five seasons and I’ve done about a dozen different mountain hunts with them there’s a lot of different tracking polls up their day. Everything under the Sun. You could think of for dream of but. That I’ve really come to like. These and I’ll go through a. Few of the features. Ireally like so the. One thing I really enjoy. What these is the wrist drops. They don’t come loose. We keep your hand in there. They work really well I’ve never had an issue with them. They get wet they dry out a credibly fast cork handle incredibly comfortable we’ve got like a rubber is kind of deal down here. You want to hold more let go yeah just kind of. More like a stick I guess versus having this contoured cork handle but the. One thing I do really like with. This cork handle as well. When it’s in extremely cold out. And below zero when you’re holding this with a thinner glove your hand doesn’t get cold. Some cheaper trekking poles will have like a plastic tape grip. That plastic will be ice-cold. You grab onto it shows your hand but. These are pretty good. They don’t freeze your hand on. You the other thing that’s really great with. This Black Diamond the pole in particular are the walking hubs here no. This might not seem like a big deal to have a clamp like.

That but compared to a twist lock the twist lock those tend not to lasas along. And also the twist lock. You put a ton of pressure on them sometimes they’ll fail. And slide out essentially wrecked. And I’ve had a lot of twist locks fail they’re usually cheaper. Than the cloud style like here but on these. If there’s ever an issue. You do is you tighten the clamp here. And push and it’s basically you’re good to go on your fixed where’s the twist lock style. That mechanism ever goes. Or breaks on your fails it’s the air hole holes basically wrecked no the. One thing that the best spool specifically there’s two clamps two sizes. What I do on this guy. It actually has that numbering on. How long your pole is so. Ikind of know what I’d like to have my poles preset up. You just adjust it to the measurement on there on. This guy you set them. Both to a 105 centimeters to. You clamp and it’s the same length every time.

Both poles are the same. You don’t have to pull them up. And measure them side by side it’s quick it’s easy. This is carbon fiber. It is incredibly light compared to a lot of the trekking poles. Ihad in Alaska actually commented on how shocked. He was at how well these poles held up. Because a lot of his clients would come up with cheaper poles. And they’d have their pole break during the trip. Or fail at the clamps. Whether it’s the twist lock er. This style I’m not sure but. He was incredibly impressed. How well he’s held up. Because those guys typically use an ice axe as a walking stick out there so kind of made. Me feel good he thought they’re good as well the other thing I really like to have. One my trekking poles as. These rubber tips you don’t have to buy the Black Diamond version. You can after market.

One but basically when you’re walking through the hiking through the mountains. When you’re up above treeline. These poles have like a little metal tip on them. And it’s constantly going tick tick tick of the rocks so. You want to have these keeps. You a lot quieter plus your poles don’t sink in to the mud sometimes. When you’re hiking if it’s soft. When it’s oil you don’t have. These tips on that narrow point drives pretty. That drives the pole pretty deep into the ground. It can just be like a drag to keep pulling it out steadies. Even on the main trails. Iactually prefer these rubber tips. All the time I never take them off it’s found.

One thing I found made. It walk way easier. You were going across the glacier ice like. They have up in Alaska in. Some places sheep on team. You might want to take them off just. You can dig into the ice but generally speaking if you’re just. If it’s dry out dirt there’s not a lot of ice. That you’re crossing these rubber tips, so they’ll definitely the way to go but overall. This wrap Nepal a 5 out of 5 spent grave never had a minute’s issue with them. You don’t have a setting treky set of trekking poles. You definitely need to get. If your backpack hunting it’ll make your life was easier the balance of your load helps balance your load. When you’re walking especially. If it’s on a incline. Or dropping down hills.

Or silently just makes. It so much easier whatever. You do just buy a good quality Brad don’t buy a cheap Brown just because of the price spend the money get a good pair.

  • We’re taking a look at the leakey micro vario carbon dss anti-shock trekking. Poles these are an extremely collapsible. Ultra lightweight trekking poles that. Are perfect for your owns counting backpackers travelers who are looking. For trekking poles that really collapse down into luggage and people who are looking for a lightweight pair of trekking poles that don’t skimp on any. Features so these are fully featured. Poles the first thing i want to point out here about these poles is they actually do have a shock absorber at the. Bottom so the dss in the naming here it. Stands for a dynamic suspension system lake ease put a lot of research and. Development into this feature and there’s an elastomer here at the bottom. Close to the point of impact of the. Ground it’s lightweight and it’s extremely durable so it’s not going to. Wear out over a long period of time and the basic function of this shock absorber is really to take out that vibration that you feel through the trekking pole when you’re hiking for long days long miles on the trail. Sometimes that vibration that comes. Through the pole can irritate your wrists your elbows your shoulders and. This just dampens that vibration the. Other standout feature of these poles is that they are extremely collapsible and the way leakey achieves this is by. Having a very durable cord that runs through all shaft sections of these. Poles and they go together almost like. Tent poles they remind me of the way tent poles are designed and then all you do in order to set them up is stretch. That out and it tensions the cord that’s. Inside and makes this very durable there’s a push button here that comes. Out once you’ve got everything set up you can hear that positive click and then you’ve got an extremely durable pole here so really great design now. This is a carbon fiber so each of these. Shaft sections are extremely lightweight perfect for those ounce can in backpackers and this does have an. Adjustable range these will adjust from. A hundred and ten centimeters all the. Way up to a hundred and thirty centimeters so fully-featured trekking. Pole here on those days where you may be. Climbing or descending and you really want to make quick adjustments it’s perfect you can also really just dial in the exact length of trekking poles that you. Need and this is lake ease speed lock. It’s an external lock it couldn’t be any easier to adjust basically you just. Flick it open with your thumb adjust it. To the proper height and then flick it closed and you’ve got a really secure lock while we’re up here on the grips. You do have an ergonomic leakey air gan. Grip there are thermo grips so you’ve got really comfortable foam here and the. Thing i really like about foam grips is they work well in all temperatures and in all seasons so in the summer if your. Hands begin to perspire this really. Wicks away sweat and you can keep a. Secure grip there with your hands but. Also in the winter this material works well with gloves you have an extended. Grip here so if you need to grip the pole at a different spot that’s really easy and then you have this egg-shaped top that’s really great for palming the. Top of the pole so a nice wide top there. And then obviously you’ve gotten adjustable straps they’re really comfortable they’re lightweight and you can adjust them to just take the strain. Off of your wrists as you’re hiking moving down the pole you have leki’s carbide flex tips it’s a very durable. Tip here and you have that carbide end. So that’s going to last a really long time and the thing that’s great about these tips is that they do flex a little. Bit if they’re put under a lot of pressure so let’s say they’re caught between two rocks it’s going to take the. Force away from the actual shaft sections of the poles and this tip is going to take most of that force so it’s going to protect the poll it’s going to last a long time and they are replaceable you do get just a narrow. Diameter basket here there is a thread. On the tips so you can take these. Baskets off and put a snow basket on. There if you need to so with all the features here you get a very lightweight set of poles with that carbon construction they’re extremely collapsible so they’re. Great for travel they’re great for those ounce counting backpackers who don’t want to skimp on any features you’ve got all the adjustability you need in a very comfortable grip they’re the leakey micro vario carbon dss anti-shock. Trekking poles. You.

These are the leakey micro vario black carbon trekking poles long distance. Through hikers will love these because the construction is reliable for daily use, but they come in at a competitively. Low weight these poles provide reliable. Stability on the trail for under 17. Ounces prepare a lot of ultra. Lightweight trekking poles achieve a much lower weight by skimping on features like an adjustable length a. Packable design and an ergonomic grip these poles however beautifully blend. The benefits of fully featured trekking poles with the benefits of a minimalist. Design the carbon fiber construction keeps the weight low the folding design. Is great for travel and the adjustable. Length means that they’ll fit most hikers perfectly there’s a durable. Central cord that runs through all. Sections once that is tensioned the. Sections are secured many collapsible poles have a similar cord but these have an internal spring. Below the hand grip to give that extra tension on the cord when they’re set up now to set them up attach all sections. Together and pull these two sections apart until you hear the clip and that. Means the cord is tensioned be sure the. Speed lock is secured down before you. Pull these two sections apart now the. Push-button lock system makes for quick assembly and especially quick packing. Away so to fold them down again just push the button to release the tension in the cord and collapse the poles down they even come with a storage bag for convenient travel the external speed. Lock two levers give a range of. Adjustability from 110 centimeters to. 130 centimeters to dial-in fit at the. Bottom durable carbide flex tips can. Bend up to 30 degrees without damaging. The lower pole sections you see this type of tip on a lot of lakey styles and. It’s a tried-and-true design small trekking baskets are included but. You can pick up larger diameter snow baskets separately for winter use leakey. Does not skimp on the grip an ergonomic. Angle puts your wrists at a natural. Position and the lightweight argon thermo foam is really comfortable the. Grip extends down the pole so you can grasp at a lower section when you’re hiking uphill and that saves you from stopping to adjust the poles the. Egg-shaped top is comfortable to palm. When going downhill and this strap is. Made of comfortable smooth fabric and adjust around your wrists now some folks. Ask us about the durability of carbon. Fiber carbon fiber is not as durable as. Aluminum when it comes to bumps and scrapes but all the common wear points are bolstered on these poles for example. Each carbon fiber section end is. Protected by a machined aluminum sleeve. And stainless steel connectors help to. Center those sections when setting up the poles you have more durable materials where it matters and lightweight materials where you want them leakey pulled out all the stops to. Deliver a fully featured yet lightweight. And collapsible design that is perfect for ultralight backpackers long distance. Through hikers and smart travelers they look pretty sleek too they’re the leakey micro vario black carbon trekking. Poles call us with your questions or. These are the lakey women’s micro vario core tech ta trekking poles they fold. Down for easy travel and are versatile. For hiking backpacking and trail running if you’ve used hiking poles in the past. But thought they were cumbersome or if. You’re ready to upgrade to high end lighter weight poles these could be the perfect option for you let’s check them. Our first i want to show how easy they. Are to set up your goal here is to put. The segments together and tighten the central cord so all sections are firmly. Connected it’s important to notice two. Mechanisms this is like ease speed lock lever and it makes height adjustments to. The poles and this is the lake ya’s pld. Push button locking device that holds. The sections together once they’re set up you won’t see this button until all. Sections are locked into place okay from. A folded position hold the grip and let. The other pieces hang be sure the speed. Lock is closed and find the pole section. That is concealed in the upper segment pull down on that section to reveal it. You can put the two lower sections. Together one by one or you can set them. Up all in one motion because they will slide together as you pull down on that concealed section you will know the. Central cord is fully tensioned when you hear the distinctive click and see the. Silver button the first few times you. Try it you may need to tug a little harder than you think you should the whole process looks like this. Now you’re ready to make the height. Adjustments with the external lock just open the lever with your thumb adjust to. The preferred height and push it closed I’m five six and i use poles at about. 115 centimeters these are women’s. Specific poles so the adjustment range is perfect for me laiki made it super easy to fold back. Down this silver button loosens that. Central cord so you can fold them again i find it helpful to tug these two. Sections apart to make it easier to press the button to conceal that first shaft section back up into the grip now. That cord is loosened so you can fold. The two lower sections if the length is. Still set to what it was while you were hiking just lower it to the bottom and store them in the carry bag the shaft sections. Are made of aluminum for durability the. Kortek grip at the top is ergonomic and. Has a lot more shape than most of the. Lightweight folding trekking poles I’ve seen on the market these are called the aragon compact grips, and they’re sized. For smaller hands the egg-shaped top is. Perfect for palming when going downhill and the extended length means you do not. Have to make time-consuming adjustments to the height while going uphill the strap is adjustable and soft on your. Hands the small trekking basket is for. Summer use but can be replaced with a snow basket if the weather calls for it those are sold separately the tip is incredibly durable and gives reliable. Traction on any surface this portion of. The tip has a bit of flex that’s why. It’s called the carbide flex tip so if it gets jammed in between two rocks it will bend and flex first to save the. Upper shaft sections from breakage it’s a rare instance but the tip is fully. Replaceable so should you need a new one. The cost of a new tip is nominal compared to a new set of poles that. Makes these a perfect option for avid hikers backpackers and trail runners there the leakey women’s micro vario. Tech t a trekking poles call us with. Your questions or visit our store at.
