It’s arc’teryx i have a number of their products as usual this one’s phenomenal. Today I’m going to kind of go over a quick breakdown of my impressions and. I weigh 170 pounds as things that’s perfectly i wouldn’t recommend anything smaller or. Larger severe same size medium and. Adjust accordingly the vest has cored. Loft i kept the tag on so that you could. See that quick background i have the. Arc’teryx atom lt hoodie which i love i. Wear it all the time and i wanted this. On this vest because i felt it would be. Good for weather around 30 to 50 degrees. I live in chicago so the weather is all. Over the place so it’s nice to have something for that range although i could wear the hoodie. Admiralty hoodie if i wanted to but just. A different change of pace so anyways the quarter lot where it’s just really well no complaints keeps you. Warm breeze well a great product it. Really does alright so let’s do a little. Little closer breakdown as you can see. This kinda has like a rip stop nylon. Appearance to it. To the left of it this is standard with. The atoms it’s more of a mesh material. Okay one thing that did throw me off. Guard though was in the inside as you. Can see right here it’s kind of like an. Elastic band that is actually kind of. Cool because it keeps the vast more snug. Around your head so wind doesn’t kind. Only fly up and get into the jacket so. You’re well insulated with this again it. Does breathe well in these side panels. Really help with the breath ability i. Purchased mine from paragon sports and i. Was actually very impressed with their standard shipping i got it and i think three or four days so kudos to them the. Price point 149 which i think is. Standard all over the place i actually couldn’t purchase it on the arc’teryx website because they were sold out, but they tell you to give paragon a try. Inside again on this side not much. Although i do love this like red kind of wine color and then on the right we have. A pocket which is nice there is a pocket. Here and then there’s not a pocket on. This side. Other than that there’s not a lot. To describe i mean if you’re looking for a best if you’re looking for probably the best that you can buy for this. Well hello there guys eugene here from reviewer gear and today i want to talk to you guys about an awesome new jacket that I’ve been testing using wearing. That i really like this is the marmot avant jacket it’s a featherless synthetic fill jacket. That I’ve really enjoyed and i. Want to show you i don’t see too many views of this thing on youtube for some reason so i was like hey why not do this. So a while back i shot a review of the marmot zeus jacket this is actually a. Down jacket 800 fill and I’ve had this jacket for a. Long time and i really enjoyed it. I’ve used this thing for i think a little bit over five years now it’s an awesome jacket but it has two. Begun to worn through to wear through have some tape on it lose some feathers so it’s time to upgrade and no hood on this one so this one is just as. Warm maybe a tad bit cooler but the fact. That it has a hood it makes it just so much better and it actually is warmer because it can warm your head up which is where a lot of heat loss happens now in terms of the fit and just the construction of the jacket it has a. Nylon shell that’s very nicely water. Repellent you can actually I’ve walked in the rain snow it’ll melt and just really beat off really nicely and roll off the jacket and the cool thing about. This is that the featherless the synthetic down inside is a down that if. It gets wet it doesn’t clump down and it’s still nice and warm so that’s a. Really nice feature now let me just go kind of through all the features of the jacket but first I’ll start with the fit since i have it on in just the way it feels it’s kind of tailored to a kind of. Athletic shape so if you do have a large belly you might be able to fit in there but uh. You know it’s nicely kind of trimmed to. Fit you really well and stay close to your body and it’s very comfortable all. The way to here i hope you can hear me well but it’s up all the way to your chin and. If you always wear the hood. There’re that zips up really nicely very. Nicely shaped to your head very warm. Not too much space for when to get in there the sleeves aren’t really nice and. Long and if you raised your arms up the. Waste of the jacket doesn’t really right up that’s the angel wing movement feature from marmot that’s that’s. Excellent if you’re gonna use it for rock climbing or anything where you have to have your hands up you have that nice. Freedom of movement all the way around as you can see they’re very. Comfortable so the features also as. You’re kind of wearing this jacket we have a really nice chest pocket here and the down fill is on the outside of. This pocket and not on the inside or if you’re carrying a phone you want to stay warm fits excellently in here this is the. Iphone 6s plus so pretty large fits no. Problem into that pocket i like that a lot the previous jacket did not have that by the way I’ll have links to this. Jacket in the description haven’t quite seen on amazon yet but i will put that in there when it is available you can get at rei or a couple other online. Stores so there’s not pocket going down here we have these two hand warmer. Pockets very nice and large they go all. The way up to here down to here all the. Way to the zipper here, and they don’t go beyond here they do have a nice little lip here so even if you have the pocket open there’s something in there it won’t fall out because you have another about three inches of space they’re really nice smooth zippers that are water-resistant on the outside nice. Little plastic things there zipper pulls. And inside of these pockets you have as. You reach in there and you pull out you have these things which allow you to cinch down the waist so that’s that’s. Awesome and then to release that you have two little release buttons here just like that and then you can relax the waist like that so the waistband as you unzip all the. Way on the inside we don’t have any pockets just some tags and some information here about cleaning. It in terms of washing it you can wash it just like you do down you know just. Make sure you read the titles in there. So those are the pockets test those are the features on the cuffs here sleeves. It’s just a nice little rubber band stays nice and tight around your wrists. You can have a nice watch hidden under there no problem you know. This will fray a little bit as time goes on but nicely done really nicely done. For a mormon, and then we have a marmot logo here logo on your chest the other really cool thing about this jacket is if you have this down jacket and you want to get a rain jacket also from. Marmot let make sure they’re the same size so this is the medium and i have the medium minimalist jacket i have a. Review of this on my channel a long time ago this is one of my favorite jackets of all time the marmot minimalist rain. Jacket absolutely like it I’ve had this. For over five years has not leaked at all gore-tex but what i want to mention. In this review though is that when you put this on if they’re the same size. It’s amazing this almost every time the. Hood just automatically fits into that did i make it in their i think it did no okay but there we go. Might be under no i don’t know we’ll see but you put that on and just live it zips. This up this down jacket fits perfectly. Inside of this rain jacket so you have. Rain protection now and the rain hood. Goes right over that’s just awesome. Now it’s water protected and you’re nice. And warm inside so i really like that. How those products work together now the. Other thing i wanted to mention is that this seams here the baffles are. Very interestingly done there is actually no stitching to divide the fill. I’m not sure how they’ve done it and if you look really closely there is no stitching and there’s no melting i don’t. Have no idea how they have separated these baffles amazing stuff. Good technology yeah anyway it’s just. Really cool i will also mention that this real on the outside here the shell is very thin and i-i don’t know how easily. It will be ripped if you snag it on something sharp i think it won’t be hard to rip it so you should be careful with it but it’s very light it is a little. But heavier than a down jacket now when. We take this jacket off and we take one. Of these pockets and turn it inside out. You can just stuff the whole jacket into. One of these pockets so if you’re trying. To pack this into a backpack for going. On a nice little trip into the mountains and you know i mean of course you could just stuff this you can just stuff this. Jacket into your backpack but the other. Option is to stuff it into its own. Pocket there’s a jacket and a little hot. Dog bun so that lets you store it in. Your backpack really nicely and come nice and compact and then you can just pull it out and it expands out back to. Its original size and shape no surprise. Very nice and warm you know i can say a. Lot of good things about it I’ve had it for probably three or four months now i. Really like it i would buy it again no problem look for a sale re i will have a sale on ammo sometimes yeah i think around $230. And then you can get it all the way down to like 160 150 on a sale, and they have. A female version of this as well so if you ladies are interested there is a female version of this so check that out. Wearing a medium here so it’s a little more tight than what I’m used to but it still gives me a little bit of room to move around because of that extra back fabric this jacket is great. Right we’re here at bridge west on a. Lovely misty damp day to talk to you about this new jacket the alpha direct by rob and I’m not sure everyone understands how this works i thought I’d explain it a little bit for you it’s a really active piece of insulation full of synthetic fibers a lot of people don’t understand the difference between primaloft and something like this that’s due to be active and preen lost due to be stationary so simply. This is politic alpha direct this is. What’s lining this jacket really fleecy. Warm but synthetic fibers that loft up like a normal piece of installation the. Reason this is so good it’s really tough and really doesn’t do’t move at all. So it can stay direct against the skin and it doesn’t need another liner underneath what i mean by that is most. Synthetic insulation needs to have like. A prima loft like this you have a tough critic sauter and something on the inner as well so that it doesn’t migrate pretty much really warm for its weight and really light and it’s still a really good piece of equipment I’m not saying one’s better than the other but if you see you can pull apart quite easily so that’s why it needs to be. Trapped inside these two layers and now. These two layers can’t breathe as well when there’s just one that’s why this is. But being acted I’m coming off as for when you stop this. Is built to be a really movement piece. So when you’re climbing or even walking you could even do on a really cold a person running so as you can see it’s really neat it’s trim doesn’t feel like a big warm jacket you should be sticking on over everything when you stop which. Slimmer arms it’s really good for climbing if it’s really neat it’s for harness so when I’m climbing i can still get my arms really easily up high like that I’ve got hand warmer pockets, but they’re so slim i don’t even notice them with the harness in the way i still pocket here as well for putting your phone or whatever your camera or something you need in their favorites. These days two thumb loops i really like those especially to get under your gloves in winter climbing get. No coal bits underneath there, and they’ve done something really clever with the hook i don’t quite know how this works but somehow it fits underneath the helmet really neatly fits. Really nicely like so but also if you. Want to wear it on top of your helmet. Again this is not stretchy in there you. Nice and warm and cozy and your vision is brilliant, so they offer direct i think can be really useful for many people if you just walk in climbing on a cold day but like rock climbing maybe a bit drier than this the main reason i really like it is i use it as a mid layer in winter and you probably found when you’re walking in if you try and wear a premium off jacket that’s built has been stationary you’ll overheat but if you take it off you’re too cold so something like this is brilliant because it’s wind proof is water-resistant so if it’s a grim day walking in that’s fine but because it breathes so well you’re really comfortable in it and when you get to the base of your route you rack up you put your waterproof over the. Top it takes away neatly underneath there i feel ready to go also the hood rolls. Away if you don’t like having multiple hoods some people as a real book bear when you use the outer hood roll it away you don’t even know

Hardwear core stratum alpine hoodie. Right so basically what this is a. Synthetic. It insulates with synthetic insulation and the synthetic insulation that he. Uses is primaloft gold active and. Primaloft gold by itself all right so. That’s two different primaloft insulation zin here it has the heavier. The official active in the soldiers and. It has the lighter primaloft just gold. In the rest of the body and ours you can. See the mountain hardwear right there. The insignia right they got to love that both and so tough i love it loves that. The cuffs are nice and tight they’re not loose again outerwear jacket. Manufacturers please pay. Attention to the cuffs please make them. Tight it’s the most annoying thing when. You have a great piece of outerwear and the cuffs are loose. Of the sleep. So again we’re here with the core strata this is the out my mouth hardened we are don’t. Be confused they have a regular it’s. Still, synthetic north face tearing. Synthetic insulation is becoming more prevalent in the game now it allows you. To make a very warm piece of warmth that. Rivals a down jacket without the bulk. And without all right so this is basically doing the. Same thing and i love this jacket. That fit this is a double xl believer. And the fit is a little there cut a. Little school so if you usually wear a. Large get a xl usually wear a xl get a. Double xl this is a double xl for me and. I wish you had just a little bit if I’m. Just gonna wear a base layer with it then you know I’m fine but usually these. Types of jackets are like to wear there maybe if I’m going to work or maybe a button-down shirt or if i want to put a. Thicker pullover fleece on underneath to. The thermal mid layer underneath it. Might be a little tight so my own hard way i would say please if you could make. The next iterations of these a little bit more room I’d appreciated. Look at the jacket we have two hand-warmer pockets at the side very. Nice. Very nice lining on the inside the. Zippers are nice not as flowy as some. Other brands are terrence comes to mind. Is it versa to super just easy to open. And close if you do it with one hand so. Flowy and smooth and you have to napoleon chest pockets it which is very nice i. I love just pilots they’re very convenient you don’t have to open the tag enough to get two keys or money or. Anything they don’t like access to awesome right. You have ahem-hem loop here at the. Bottom we saw one sided so you can just pull it tightens up the whole thing and i really like i really like the. Jacket i love this blue and the fabric. Is very nice i mean they did non hard we. Did a very good job with the fabric it’s. Very soft it’s plushy. I’m very impressed with the field and. The craftsmanship of the jacket. This kind of shiny nylon overlaid. You know you’ll be the judge some people. May like it some people may not but i. Think it looks kind of cool right now. For the hood there is no adjustment here. On the sides of the face yet one adjustment is here on the back all right. One point adjustment which we’ve seen in. A lot of jackets that it’s great but i. Think mountain hardwear falls under the short heel with this reason why i say that this is because look at the sides. Here right this is open this is supposed. To be closed when i cinch down the hood. So when it’s cold and breathe me out. You’re gonna get tons of air just rushing down inside the jacket i kind of. Like the size of the jacket in the hood. Are going to be open i think they. Definitely redesigned this hood i want. To keep this jacket so much but this was. A no-go for me i could probably even live with loose cuffs but a hood that. Works properly all right. You know a rule of thumb a lot of yup you have a lot of jacket makers out here. A lot of people doing just excellent stuff a lot of people just doing kind of. Ok stuff with their outerwear but really. The deciding factor with a jack especially a technical outerwear piece is the hood is on point if the hood is. Just cinches down perfectly it’s no. Fuss at all then that’s gonna be a great. Jacket alright that’s like a rule of thumb jack it has a great hug the jacket. Is probably gonna be great at what it does also out here today. It’s like 28 degrees 30 degrees it’s. Could it’s chilly I’m pretty warm in this i wouldn’t recommend you wear it in very. Cold conditions like this but you know if you have a thermal under there a. Light fleece pullover a very thin fleece. To wear underneath it and you’re hell-bent on wearing this in that condition then you could probably get away but this would probably be suited i. Would say from anywhere to make 30s to. Mid 40s. I really like the jacket about i love it i love the feel i love the. Look it’s just the hood i can’t have an. Open hood that’s just a no-go for me so. Insulation you have the active you have the regular primaloft you can’t go wrong. With that but just look at the inside of the jacket all right look at the craftsmanship is very nice material that they’ve used on the inside. Of the jacket i think they did a great. Adam here forget out their magazine today i am bringing you a comparative review of two down-filled jackets by mountain hardwear Over here we have the ghost whisperer down hooded jacket and on this side we have the stretch down rs hooded jacket let’s break down what it’s similar first. At first glance you think that these may be the same jacket both uses similar fabric the rs is slightly thicker fabric in the whisper but both are extremely thin and feel like they could rip easily. But let me tell you they’re surprisingly durable after extensive use i have yet. To fiber rip and either of these jackets now each has a drawstring waist and each. Has similar down fill and provides. Similar warmth 750 down fill for the rs. And 800 for the whisper both have mountain hardwear’s q shield down which is treated to be water repellent however both jackets soak throughout their two hours in a wet snowfall finally both. Have down-filled hoods which do not have draw strings, but they do stay on tight even in high winds and that’s really where the similarities end the whisper has an active fit which is. Really tight to the body where the rs of the performance fit which is more room through the waist shoulders and arms for reference I’m five-eleven 185 pounds in both jackets are size medium the whisper. Is the world’s lightest down hooded jacket well at least that’s what the mountain hardwear website says so don’t quote me on that but it is extremely light it only weighs in at 7.7 ounces. Where the rs is also very light but it’s. Almost double the weight at fourteen point nine ounces to keep the weight down the whisper has a minimalistic design and only two zippered hand pockets while the rs has two zippered. Hand pockets a zippered chest pocket in the internal mesh pockets the cuffs are. Both very different drs has a traditional small outer elastic while the whisper has a unique design with the down fill all the way to the end of the sleeve and it has a hidden elastic inside the cuff to keep it in place surprisingly i found this was much better to keep the cuff in place during activity than the rs cuff a neat feature of the ghost whisperer is its ability to be stored away in its own pocket it folds up to the size of a large water bottle which makes it super convenient on days when the temperature or your activity level maven the rs is a version of mountain hardwear’s new stretch down line and to. Be honest i didn’t find there to be much stretch in this fabric however i did find it to be pretty comfortable at the end of the day i found the stretch down rs jacket to be great for leisure activities like walking the dog and hiking as well as general wear around town i also have had many compliments on. The style of this jacket on the other hand the ghost whisperer jacket has not had any compliments for the look and that may be due to the color but it is a way better choice for someone who’s looking for a down-filled jacket to be active in i have found this also to be. The innovative floodlight jacket by outdoor research. This is a very warm and compressible down jacket that is filled with high quality 800. Fill down. The stand out feature of this jacket is it is fully waterproof. Now traditional down jackets need to have lots of baffles and lots of stitch lines and. That prevents them from being fully waterproof. But what outdoor research has done in the floodlight jacket is created a way to do away. With all of those stitch lines and create just a fully waterproof outer shell. They actually bond the baffles in this jacket. And that does two things. It creates little chambers so you don’t have unwanted shifting of down and it as well. Allows the jacket to be fully waterproof. So you don’t have all those holes in the fabric. It is very innovative and it also allows the jacket to not need to utilize treated down. So it is traditional down, but all of those plumes of down are protected by that waterproof. Outer shell. This is a very technical and fully featured jacket. So starting with the outer shell it is fully waterproof, pertex shield plus fabric. It is a rip stop nylon and it is 30 d. so it is very durable. I can see it being great for skiing where you are going to be subject to some moisture, . But you want that outer fabric to be pretty durable in those conditions. You know, hiking in maybe damp or snowy conditions where you want to stay really toasty warm. But you also want all of that waterproof protection. We have got a full length zipper in this jacket. And the zippers on the outside are water resistant zippers. You have a storm flap behind the full length zipper in the front. And the hem of the jacket actually drops down a little bit in the back. So, you know if you are moving around you are not going to feel this jacket ride up. Very much at all. You have an adjustable draw cord in the hem that you can cinch down from either side. While i have got the jacket open, you do have two dump pockets on the inside. These are stretchy mesh pockets, a great place for a pair of gloves, a hat or even ski skins. They are big enough for that. We have got two hand level pockets and these are lined with a really nice, soft fleece. Fabric for chilly hands. On the inside of the one pocket you do have a little clip for keys, which is a nice added. Feature and a small chest pocket up here at the top. The cuffs of this jacket are fully adjustable. You have got a little bit of stretch there, but just a velcro closure there. Really nice to cinch down if you have gloves on top or gloves underneath. And just going up to the collar, a really nice baffled collar and a really warm helmet. Compatible hood. You have got a lot of adjustment points on the hood. I will start with actually the brim. There is a nice little wired brim here. It sticks out past the end of the hood and just gives a little bit more added protection. There. as i said, it is a helmet compatible hood so it is pretty big, but you have adjustment. Points around the face and around the back so you can really cinch these down and just. Batten everything down. If you have the zipper zipped up all the way, there is just a little chin guard behind there. So it doesn’t irritate your chin if you have it zipped up. The fit of this jacket is really great. i am just wearing a lightweight layer underneath of this, but there is definitely enough room. In this jacket to layer up. you know, it is certainly a very warm winter jacket. So they give you enough room to allow for layers underneath of it. On its own it is just very warm. With a dropped hem this jacket is a little bit longer, which is great for in the winter. And, you know, the sleeves are a little bit longer as well just so that you can use gloves. With them.
