Ready for a weekend of backpacking or extended trips if you’re packing light. The Gregory jade 53 litre women’s pack. Is perfectly balanced between light. Weight features and all of those other. Features that you’re looking for organization and a pack that’s going to. Carry a heavy load comfortably now. Unlike extended trip packs where they’ve. Got heavy features this has really. Stripped-down features lightweight materials those materials are also very durable and strong and the suspension. System here really gives you the ability. To carry the load so I’m going to turn the pack around and talk about the suspension system I’ve got Gregory’s cross flow dts suspension system and. Again it’s pretty lightweight it gives. You a lot of ventilation with this. Tension back panel you can see all of that mesh there and i can put my hand. Behind it so you know that you’ve got all the ventilation that you need behind the scenes there you can see a cross pattern for the frame that is a. Lightweight spring frame and what i like. About that is it gives the rigidity that you need in the pack to give stability and to transfer the weight of the load to your hips but it will move with you. Because it’s the cross pattern it will flex a little bit as you move so this pack doesn’t feel boxy it feels like as you move going up and down hill it’s. Going to move with you and then you as well. Have behind the scenes a hdpe frame sheet that gives rigidity to but it’s. Nice and lightweight now you have a va. Foam where you need it there on the lumbar pad it’s a really comfortable lumbar pad and then behind the shoulder. Straps you have die cut foam that foam. Keeps you comfortable and unlike lightweight or ultra light. Weight backpacks this foam gives you plenty of cushioning so really. Comfortable cushioning on the shoulders and a lot of cushioning on the hip belt and the hip belt does have a little bit of rigidity to it too so it definitely carries the load well now. Obviously you’ve got your load lifter straps up here that give you some adjust ability this comes in three different sizes so you can’t actually adjust the harness up and down but you. Can use the those load lifters to dial in the fit and just choose the. Particular size that’s right for your. Torso in addition to the adjust ability. There you do have an adjustable sternum straps you can move that up and down. While I’m on the back of the pack you do have a hydration sleeve inside the pack. You can route the hydration hose out through the middle here and you even. Have a little catch here for the hose on. This side now the hydration system itself isn’t included, but they do give. You this smaller pack this can be hung. Inside of the backpack as the sleeve for. Your hydration system but you can as well. Take it out and use it as a summit pack you’ve got really lightweight and stretchy straps here so those are comfortable the material here is nice. And lightweight so it doesn’t add a lot of weight to the actual pack but you can use this as a day pack if you’re just. Summoning a peak you can use this to. Take some stuff with you or if you’re traveling and you’re just going out for the day that you can throw some essentials in this pack there’s daisy chain attachments on the front a small zippered pocket there on. That pack so it’s a really nice feature. That again doesn’t add a lot of weight to the pack that adds a lot of value the. Pockets and organization are streamlined. And simple but it gives you all the. Organization you need on the front of the hip belt you have nice big pockets i. Can see these accommodating any size smartphone you can see this mesh pocket. Here stretches out really big you could put a small camera in there or something like that so really good size pockets. There and then on the lid you have the access into the. Back I’ve got a first aid kit in their so items you want to get your hands on quickly or lightweight items can be. Stored up there on the side of the pack. You have two very stretchy meshes pockets big enough to accommodate any size water. Bottle I’ve got a 32 ounce water bottle. In there and it fits well you’ve even got a compression strap on the front so you can compress that down and if you’re. Just going on an overnight or a short trip you’ve got compression straps all over this pack to make the load a little bit smaller you have a full-size lid here. And you can store lots of gear in there so then that gives you access into the. Body of the pack there’s even a small hidden pocket back here and that’s a. Great feature for travel you’ve got really easy access into the top of the pack with a nice big opening that’s. Really easy to use and i found that this. Pull handle is really nice as well so there’re little attentions to detail make. A big difference it’s all the access you need into that big pocket then you do. Have access in a couple more areas so. Something i really appreciate about this pack you have a nice big u-shaped zipper. Here where you can access all the gear. That you need that’s in the middle of your pack it’s tucked away back here so. It doesn’t add a lot of weight to the pack but as you can see i can open that. Up nice and wide almost like a piece of luggage and get to all the gear that’s in the middle of the pack so i can grab for whatever i need if you’re traveling. With this pack taking it overseas you can use it like that so really nice almost hidden pocket there. And then down on the bottom you have access into a sleeping bag compartment down there these zipper poles are so. Easy to use, and they make it nice and easy to get to the bottom now there is a. Divider in between the bottom and the. Middle of the pack but you can tuck that away if you need full access into the whole pack now also behind the scenes there is a. Hidden rain cover the rain cover is. Custom fit for the pack and it’s in its own designated pocket right here so rain cover matches the pack and it. Adds a lot of value so you don’t have to purchase a separate rain cover in the. Front a nice stretchy dump pocket too and then as you can see all over the. Front of this pack you’ve got two loops you’ve got straps here that you can. Attach a sleeping pad this is actually removable and you’ve got trekking pole bungees up here so there’s plenty of. Features here you can use this pack in a lot of different ways but all of those. Features don’t add a lot of weight to the pack, but they add a lot of organization and with all the features that you get here it’s a really great value it would work in a lot of. Different situations from a quick overnight to a weekend to traveling overseas it’s the Gregory jade 53 women’s. Backpack. You.
Hey everybody this is Jackie from the budget-minded travelers comm and i want to take a few minutes to show you today why i love my Gregory jade 50 backpacks so much and why i would recommend it for you as your go-to travel backpack but. First of all if you haven’t watched my how to choose the right travel backpack video i recommend that you watch that one so that you can understand what we’re getting into today I’m going to be talking about the three c’s comfort capacity and convenience alright allow. Me to introduce you to my go to travel backpack the Gregory jade 50 it’s a. Women’s size small for my torso and the. Number 50 is the pack capacity in litres why is this important three reasons. Number one the fact that it’s a size. Small is not only great for fitting my torso perfectly but it’s a bonus because. Check this out oh whoa thanks okay this. Backpack is about 20 to 21 inches that. Makes it small enough to carry on which is really important to me because i prefer to carry on whenever possible the. Second reason the 50 is perfect for me is that it’s small enough so that it discourages me from over packing yet. It’s still big enough to fit everything that i need and the third reason is that. It seems to be the perfect size for any length of trip that i take i can take it. For weeks or months it always seems to be the perfect size for me and now we’ll talk about comfort look closely at the. Frame of this backpack it’s actually shaped against the curve of my back. There’s lumbar support at the bottom and there’s shoulder support at the top and. The frame never actually touches my back. So when a backpack fits right all the. Weight should be right on your hips and this should be fastened just above your hip bone so once i get all the straps at. Just the right length I’m actually really comfortable and i actually hiked machu picchu with this backpack for three days straight and i didn’t have any problems with being sore i also packed like so keep that in mind all right on the convenience it’s. Important to look at the pockets straps zippers and extra flair that the backpack has so starting at the top. There’s one right across the top here which i like for two reasons on it. Makes a convenient spot to put things that I’ll need to access a lot like sunglasses passport wallet hotel keys. There’s even a strap on the inside here. For your keys so that they’ll keep them in a convenient spot and the second. Think i like about this specific zipper is that the zipper is actually tucked in pretty close to my body so that when I’m wearing it’s harder for a thief to. Get to and if you notice right here i. Actually keep a safety pin right there on that loop and that way i can safety. Pin the loop to the strap and it creates a lock on the zipper so i wouldn’t have to worry about people trying to get into it anyway alright moving on if you open. It up you’ll see that on the inside i. Don’t know if you could see this from there, but we’ll try there’s a pocket. Right against the back here i don’t know if you can see it but it fits documents. I always put my flight reservations and important things extra stash of money right there in that pocket because it’s almost hidden and the rest of it is just a big open space I’ve actually got a pillow stuffed in there right now to show you and then on the outside the. First thing that you’ll notice is this big bulky pouch and what i love about. This is that i actually use it to put my. Shoes in and you’ll see that I’ve got some shoes in it right here this is a. Very versatile pouch for anything that’s. Bulky shaped or maybe muddy i put muddy shoes muddy clothes in here all the time. So that’s a great spot for any kind of. Shoes and then on the outside of this there’s a long vertical pouch and this. Is actually pretty big this is where i keep my flip-flops because it seems to be the perfect size pocket for a flat pair of flip-flops and then on each side there are these. Adjustable pockets right here which you could also put shoes in or water bottles. There’s a velcro if you’re not going to use it and there’s also a strap right here that you could put around the top of a water bottle or the end of a shoe to hold it in there and that’s on both. Sides of this backpack there’s also on. The very bottom besides the mud there’re some straps here. You could put something long shaped in. This so like when i take this backpacking in the summer camping that’s. Where i put my sleeping pad because it’s a long awkward shape and it doesn’t even then have to go into my backpack it just goes right on the bottom and the last. Think and probably the most important is. This side pocket right here this piece. Of magic allows me to be able to reach. At the bottom of my backpack without having to take everything out through the top every time when i need something that’s packed deep and i almost forgot. Right here on the sides of the hip straps there’s two more little pockets that are perfect for chapstick they even fit a little point-and-shoot camera and anything that you need to keep convenient with you while you’re wearing your backpack those are great pockets for that and there’s one more see that i. Didn’t talk about with this backpack and that’s cost and that’s another reason why i love this backpack i actually went. To rei to get fitted for this backpack they had a blue one in the store and once i decided the best the backpack i really wanted i went to the rei outlet and i found this one which is even more perfect for me because my favorite color is red this backpack cost me a hundred. And four dollars on the rei outlet so i was able to save a lot of money that way. So there you have it a complete introduction and review of my favourite backpack the Gregory jade 50 i hope. You’ve enjoyed this video if you have please give it a thumbs up and come on over to check out my blog and podcast at the budget-minded travelers comm for. Even greater travel tips have a great day you.
Seek cooler temperatures in higher altitudes this summer with all your hiking essentials packed in The North Face Women’s Aleia 22 Backpack. This technical daypack boasts The North Face’s NextVent back panel, which uses suspended mesh to assure ample airflow while still providing plenty of stability when you have a full pack. The Aleia also has a massive pocket configuration to organize everything from hydration reservoirs to electronics and on-the-trail essentials.
With The North Face Aleia 32 Backpack, there are more than seven internal and external pockets to give you unlimited organizational options. You receive two tool keepers and a hydration sleeve to make multi-day hikes simpler with the option to carry extra gear and more water. And to add comfort to versatility, this pack also has a women-specific trampoline-style suspended mesh back panel for extra breathability and support, as well as a vented-foam package to cushion your back.
Organization and comfort are huge components for hiking, but you also need to be able to move lightly and cruise through the trails. Luckily, the Aleia 32 Backpack is designed with beaver tail construction for integrated compression and storage, which lets you pack for multi-day hikes without adding unnecessary weight. This means that you store all your essentials easily and stride on comfortably.
As most women know, backpacks are often the unfortunate victim of the pink-and-shrink laser beam. However, designers over at Osprey heard the call for a functional, women-specific touring backpack, and answered with the Kresta 30 Backpack. And in typical Osprey fashion, the Kresta has just the right amount of features necessary for a day of touring in the alpine without skimping on the overall fit or functionality.
More specifically, this pack is fashioned with a women-specific Light Wire suspension system that when combined with the padded help belt and stabilization straps, provide a comfortable and pressure-free haul. The thermoformed, contoured back panel sheds snow easily, and ultimately reduces the build-up of frozen precipitation on your backside. Not to mention, a deployable helmet net makes carrying your helmet a breeze, and the tuck-away ice tool loop ensures you’re able to haul technical tools without worrying about losing them en route.
In keeping with its versatile construction, the Kresta boasts a horizontal snowboarding carrying feature, or if you’re of the dual-planked nature, it also touts an A-frame or diagonal ski carrying design. Though, perhaps most importantly, the Kresta has a J-shaped avalanche gear compartment, complete with dry pocket, so you’re not only able to access your safety gear in a flash, but you’re also able to separate your sensitive avy gear from wet skins or damp clothing. A back panel entry system enables you quick access to snacks or extra layers, and all of the Kresta’s zipper pulls, as well as buckles, are glove and mitten friendly.

The Deuter Women’s ACT Trail 28 SL Backpack will carry everything you need for big hikes where the goal is summit or bust. This well-conceived pack features Deuter’s SL Women’s fit, which takes into account the smaller frame of female hikers. A reduced torso length, narrow shoulder straps, and a conical shape all result in a better fit for women who feel that standard backpacks are too large. The contoured shoulder straps have a breathable air mesh lining, while the back panel allows air to actively pass between your back and the pack for a cool and comfortable fit. The main compartment can be accessed either from the top or from the front panel. A wet gear compartment keeps your rain jacket separate from other layers after those frequent and pesky afternoon rain showers, while multiple gear loops let you carry an ice axe or trekking poles when you need to.
What is up Duroc here you first outdoors. Today i wanna do a quick little review a. Pretty sweet little daebak i like god it’s gonna be the deuter a ct trail 30. That’s right this little pack is quiet. Impressive actually i was kind of skeptical but i used it on a recent hike. And i was very impressed with it especially if it looks kind of small but. It held everything i needed it to hold. Which was surprising and it is very. Comfortable so I’m gonna go over a couple things with it and pack it out shows you how much it held for me and why. I think it’s a good pack for the money alright let’s take a good look at this thing first so pack is very light empty pack weighs. Out 2 pounds 10 ounces this is the acp. Trail 30 so it’s a 30 liter pack i was a. Little skeptical about the hip belt you know there’s no padding or anything like that now you gotta understand this is just add a pack so you can pack. It out really well but this really it did well and the padding here kind of. Leaves a space between your back so some. Air can flow through that and that seemed to work well it was a pretty hot day when we hiked up mount Trumbull. So i was very comfortable got some stuff i already used this pack once this is looking at the back the. Straps are adjustable here and then up. Top but you can’t adjust the back like. Port or so that’s pretty much you get. What you get flipping this over what i like about. This too is it’s got the little rain. Rain fly that will cover back here. Always like that i think that’s great in the packs no although i should try and. Put this all in the packs full up see what looks like they will do that to that’s cool that stuff back into there. You’ve got a one strap to lock the top. Down here and you’ve got some extra. Space on the front here to store some. Things and you can also store some. Things well that’s the side. Entrance there so that’s kind of windy. And you’ve got that on one side what you. Also have is the ability to just open. The entire pack from the top like that. So that’s kind of handy grab things out. Of there without having to go to the top and then there’s also the top pocket. Which you can store some things to get your key holder there and there’s also one more pockets isn’t there yeah inside. The top there you can cram some stuff in there as well. We’ve also got a little bit of knowledge. Right here you know alpine emergency by. You know singled aircraft all those things that’ll help you out if you get. And a pinch well it’s tough this thing. Our real quick alright so what you’re. Seeing here is the back fully loaded. Everything i like to carry on a day hike. And it seems to hold on then what i. Don’t have i don’t have stuff jammed in the top pockets or in this front pocket so those are still empty although I’m. Sure i could find something to put in their i like to pack a view so that’s just or lots of stuff that’s just how it. Rolls but we’re loaded you can see how. Now that holds up. Show you how fitz. Here we have it’s pretty good mmm. One thing i really like about this and i was kind of weird when i first put it on is like with the straps it belts I’m. Used to pulling back to tighten this one. They go pull front and it’s beautiful it. Looks great I’m you can just type down like that and i just think it’s so much easier to pull that away then this way that’s brilliant. Actually i think so that’s really cool also on the sternum strap it has this. Plastic thing that’s clipped on and it. Moves up fairly simple so you can adjust. Sternum strap pretty easy. Looking at this now that could pop off. Just pop out of there it doesn’t run. Through so that’s gonna happen i mean. It’s gonna happen this is gonna pop off. And i presume that you could pop it back on we’ll see but a cool little feature. But i think that yeah i know that’s. Gonna pop off sometime somewhere it’ll grab on something i don’t know interesting works well but well we’ll. See won’t we you already got a loop sewn. In here to hang something sunglasses a. Little camera case something like that’s pretty cool okay there’s there’s. One side pocket here and i generally. Don’t carry sticks on day hike just. Depends on what I’m getting into so this will fit in an al jean bottle. And you can run this through the loop at the nalgene top there to keep it from popping out but that works well and you. Can also use to hold your sticks or whatever looking at this is going. To fail in time everything fails but. That’s i don’t know like i said this is. A new pack I’ve only used it once I’m hard on things I’ve run through bushes. And dragged things across it i mean it’s. Just we’ll see but for the moment it. Works you can just that yeah i mean this. Is gonna pop off or rip out it will i. Now it just cuz it’s happened. Everything every time i have things like this they’re gonna fail not off the back. But eventually so bearing that in mind. You can still fit an al jean in there. And you could probably rig something up to tie it but that looks pretty secure in there but this thing your miles may. Very i suppose but it’s handy and it’ll. Work for the moment we will see in time. Heavy usage you know things are gonna fall apart there’s another one over here. Also where you can hang something. Through and a nice axe or something i suppose something else but there’s no pocket so yeah you know you got some. Little things sewn here you could attach things to so there’re options it’s cool i. Like what i like it you know i think it’s a well-thought-out pack for the most part i think these things could be. A little sturdier and a little more. Heavy-duty but you know things like that. Will increase the cost of the pack so. Yeah we’ll see where it takes it rights. You’ve also got some loops sewn in on. The bottom here and they’ll be useful. For some things this is connected here. You’ll take unhook that and that’s how. You’ll access. That’s your side wait a minute do you. Notice that huh okay well there’s a side pocket right there instead of an outside. Pockets a zipper pocket where you could stash something a map or something would go there wow just now I’ve seen all kinds of cool stuff so you don’t clip these claps here. And this will get you into the top of. The back to get whatever you need out of their back down so now that this thing’s. All full up let’s try that rain fly. Again see how that holds up sticks out. Of here put these back on so i got a. Full up pack will this fly cover it now. Moment of truth alright so the fly is attached to the. Pack fly out and wind grabs it you’ll. Never see it again let’s see this. Actually well right look at that. Axe fully loaded and the rain cover just. Covered the entire pack and it covers it. Well that’s cool love it and it’s even. Got a little drain hole at the bottom like i said this is a this is a pretty thought-out pack a nicely thought out pack all right you’ve got your slot for. Your camel back hose and then it’ll run. Down strap there go right through there. So there’s your water system if you will. I don’t really like using camelbaks. That’s just my preference sometimes i do but a lot of times i don’t I’ll just stick with no jeans so what I’ve got in. The pack is I’ve actually got four. Nalgene bottles in their now one of them. Stuffed with things i may need so in. Theory i could hold a gallon of water just with the nalgene bottles in here and I’m. Gonna dig everything out and show you what i got in their so jackets rain. Jacket also got another now jean this is. Got a bunch of stuff in it. Whistle lighters blah blah blah and I’ve. Got 20 liter dry bags this just got all. Stuff like compass sunscreen food toilet. Paper all those essential things like that and i don’t really carry this is a. Quick dry bag this is more for a canyoning so I’ve got stuff ready for a canyon I’m doing tomorrow we’ve got a lighter dry bag which I’ll use this to cut down on weight but it’s still it’s still the same thing 20 litres it’s not full of course but you know that’ll work. Too and that’s everything that was in. There and you’ve also got your slot of. Course for your camel back in here like that so there you have it all my stuff. That was in there so pack holds quiet. A bit everything you need for sweet long. Day hike and if you have to have or come. Into some inclement weather it’s already. Geared like that I’m very impressed with this pack i like it i like it a lot and i think it’ll last there’s a couple weak. Points i think but you’re gonna have that’ll anything and if you were to make. Those things more heavy-duty like i said. It’s just going to increase the price point of the pack and as far as the. Price point i think was it yeah this went for 130 dollars so. I think it is worth it. To be honest with you so there you have. It the door a ct trail 30 i use this pack. You can check out the video the hiking mount Trumbull video i use this pack to do that hike and it served me very well i think I’ll get a lot of use. Out of this pack so as always appreciate. You watch stay safe out there if you haven’t subscribed please subscribe, and we’ll see you next time do you rock out.
Deuter made the Women’s ACT Trail 22 SL Backpack versatile so you can ski, climb, and hike with the same pack. Its AirContact Trail SL suspension system features a women-specific design, stabilizer straps, a flexible frame, ventilated channels, and breathable 3D AirMesh padding at the shoulder straps, waist belt, and back panel.
There are two access points to the ACT Trail’s main compartment, one at the top for packing and another at the front for getting gear quickly. Deuter also added a sleeve for your hydration reservoir, a compartment for dirty clothes, and a rain cover that you can remove for sunny days. There are multiple pockets inside for organization as well, one on the side for a water bottle, and another zippered side for security. The loop at the bottom stores ice axes, trekking poles, or a helmet―whatever your adventure calls for.
Arguably, there’s nothing more rejuvenating than spending a day out on the skin track or boot-packing within the lift-accessed areas of the ski resort. And since more than half the battle is terrain, know that you can trust the Osprey Kresta 20 Backpack to carry your avalanche gear and necessities—without getting the way of having fun.
Specifically, the Kresta 20 is fashioned with a women-specific, Light Wire suspension system that when combined with the padded help belt and stabilization straps, provide a comfortable and pressure-free haul. Additionally, the thermoformed, contoured back panel sheds snow easily, and ultimately reduces the build-up of frozen precipitation. A dual-position, deployable helmet net makes carrying your melon-protector easy (when it’s not in use).
Not to mention, the Kresta boasts a horizontal snowboarding carrying feature, or if you’re of the dual-planked nature, it also touts an A-frame or diagonal ski carrying design. More importantly, the Kresta has a J-shaped avalanche gear compartment, complete with dry pocket, so you’re able to access your safety gear in a flash and separate other sensitive items from wet skins or damp clothing. And, last but not least, a back panel entry system enables you to access snacks or extra layers quickly, and all of the Kresta’s zipper pulls, as well as buckles, are glove and mitten friendly.
When you’re hiking fast and tackling strenuous ascents, you need the Salewa Mountain Trainer WS 22L Backpack to keep you cool as you push yourself to the limits. Its Contact Flow Fit carrying system keeps the pack close to your body for mobility, yet ensures that your back remains dry with its 3D air channels that keep air flowing as you make your way to the summit. The lightweight split shoulder straps also increase airflow to keep you cool while also providing you with enhanced arm mobility for those tough scrambles. As you scramble, the sophisticated Twin Compression System allows for easy volume adjustment so you can stabilize and center your load at all times. Its 22L holds your snacks and extra layers in it’s on-the-go pockets while pole fastening straps and a daisy chain allow you to bring along all your gear.
Thanks to its Women-specific design, the Deuter Airlite 20 SL Backpack delivers both exceptional comfort and the technical features needed to explore your favorite trails. Fitted with the Aircomfort Flexlite back system, not only does the pack provide an anatomical fit, but it allows air to pass between your back and the pack for a cool and comfortable feel. The SL Women’s fit system better accommodates more petite frames and its conical shaped lower back design better fits female hips. The closer-together, shortened straps also result in a more comfortable carry. A detachable rain cover can be easily attached to keep your gear dry, and the hydration compatible design lets you stay refreshed while you’re hiking. Stretch side and front pockets allow items to be quickly secured to the pack, and trekking pole loops let you carry them on you’re pack when you need your hands during ridge-line scrambles.
Cleanly designed with a minimalist aesthetic, the Gregory Women’s Maya 22 Backpack brings functional carrying and streamlined support into your daily commute, weekend hikes, and far-flung travel. The BioSync suspension system not only prevents moisture build-up with its well-ventilated design, but moves naturally with your body to prevent uncomfortable pressure points resulting from an overly rigid back panel and shoulder straps.
The top-access main compartment is roomy enough for storing extra layers, daily documents, and other larger items, with an internal-zip security pocket for housing keys, cash, and other small necessities. Another innovative feature is the bungee-secured front pocket that expands to accommodate your bike helmet or rain jacket. Ultimately, this lends the Maya 22 the versatility needed for conquering everything from downtown bike commutes to extended travel across widely varying climates.
For a more streamlined design compared to its slightly larger counterpart, the Deuter Trail 24 SL Backpack provides you with enough space for a day’s worth of gear without extra space and weight. AirContact Trail uses contoured shoulder straps with a mesh lining, a ventilation channel between the pack padding, breathable foam back pads, and anatomically-formed hip fins to make heavy loads comfortable to carry. The SL Women’s Fit System has soft edges to the straps (which are shorter and narrower), smaller buckles, curved west belt wings, and shorter-length suspension system. Plenty of pockets organize your gear, and Deuter even added a wet/dry pocket to help separate your wet or dirty gear from the rest of your stuff.
During the work week you might be able to squeeze in a short hike, but you probably can’t take the full day. Whether you go out for sunrise or sunset, bring the Gregory Women’s Sula 18L Backpack to carry your gear. Even over a short hike the weather can change quickly, so throw in a rain or wind jacket, some water, and plenty of snacks just in case. This pack is hydration compatible because you need to keep water with you even though the early and late parts of the day do give you a break from the heat. The Sula has EVA foam in the shoulder straps to absorb shock while the webbing chest and waist straps minimize bouncing for a smooth, comfortable hike.
got just enough features with a comfortable and technical suspension system that’s going to keep you comfortable on the trail all day long it’s the Gregory women’s sula 18 liter

Hey there and welcome back to peace. Couch now as many of you aware I’m about to embark on the marathon disorder which. Is something I’ve been concentrating really heavily on for the last year or. More as well as doing lots of training. I’ve been doing so much research on the. Amount of kit going to take and I’ve been testing a lot of stuff so over the. Next couple of weeks before i depart i thought I’d share some of those learnings with you and where better. Place to start than the backpack I’m going to take which i have decided on. The ultimate direction fast pack 20 now. This is super heavy at the moment because it’s its fully weighted so I’ve been training with but i just can empty it out and show you why i like it so much so here it is and it’s naked form. And this is what i like most about it is that it’s so minimal it’s basically an expanded running desk it weighs next to nothing and this is kind of one of the big deciding factors for me because obviously I’m trying to cut down as much weight as possible 510. Grams okay now a great thing to compare. This to is the official war bag which a. Lot of people will be using mdf and in. Contrast it’s got all kinds of stuff hanging off it and most importantly the. Weight of it 900 grams that’s a pretty. Huge difference so this is nearly half the weight of the wire back which is an incredible savings but I’ve also decided. To make an even bigger saving on it there’s not much you can cut off it like the like a wild bag you can get the diseases to that and kind of trim off some weight but here it’s so minimal anyway but certainly the most notable. Savings you can make is in the back there’s a bit of padding that you can remove, and they say that this can be. Used to sit on or even to you know used. To cushion your hips when you’re lying down i found it pretty useless. I’ve actually having removed this form. The back I’ve actually found the pack more come — boo and with it out so condition this. That brings the weight of the pack down to give time a gram so i say 10 grams. Right there so although this fast pack is nearly half the weight of the wire bag actually fits way more in it and it’s down as a 20 litres bag but i think. You could probably push that out quite a lot partly because of the nature of this main compartment and how it seals its kind of like a dry bag has a velcro fastening that then rolls and then clips. In at the sides now i probably got about. 20 litres in there now but you can. Basically just not roll it down as much and sitting maybe another five litres. Into that main compartment it’s not only that you’ve also got this fat mesh here. Which you can fit loads in that really stretches out and it’s a firm mesh as well so it’s going to hold things firmly in place i don’t tend to put a massive amount in there because i like to keep my weight closer to my back but it’s actually really good for holding waterproof or extra base layers that you. Might be using during the day stuff that down there and it holds it in their lovely and secure on top of those two main compartments we’ve got these mesh pockets on the side which also hold a lot of stuff very stretchy and pretty. Secure I’ll generally use those side pockets for stuffing food and stuffing rubbish because even though I’ve got terrible flexibility i can reach into those pockets quite nicely so coming onto the front, and we’ve got two really great water pouches here it really surprises me how many ultra bags don’t. Seem to have big enough pouches built in. For hard water bottles and maybe because they want to offer flexibility so that people can attach themselves but as you think this is a great weight saving thing to be able to build them into the bag that ultimates are it shouldn’t have done so as you can see — water pool. Tools fit there really nicely there’s also the option on this right-hand one if you don’t want to. Carry two water bottles this zips back up again and there’s actually a really nice secure pocket that you could maybe put bars you could put all kinds of stuff down in there it’s actually a really brilliant phone holder you can put your phone down into their sip it back up and that’s super secure. But i actually find that’s one of the major downsides of its bad for me is that I’m going to be running around with two bottles most of the time and there’s nowhere for me to put my phone now I’m not expecting to be on the phone the whole time but it’d be really good to have access to music and stuff like that if i do want to listen to music currently there’s nowhere else. On the front of the bag for me to put it. There’s this outside stretchy pocket just outside where the water bottle is but actually getting your phone into it. It’s pretty much a no-go really the best. Place for you to put your phone is there’s a smaller zip pocket on the side of the bag then it can go in nice and. Securely there’s also one of these clip leaves to put your keys onto you know I’ve ever used one of these so the annoying thing about it is that it’s going to be too far away for you to reach when you’ve got your bag on so coming back to the front you’ve also got two smaller pouches below the water bottles so if i just take these out so you can get a better look so on the left. Hand side we’ve got a zip and on the. Right-hand side we’ve got a velcro strap these are actually bigger than they look quite often i use them to dump keys and just have stuff that i want readily available, but they’re actually stretch out so hold a couple of bars maybe or you know something slightly more sizable approach they just not that phone but you can see i can fit two full clif bars. Into each one of these pockets obviously. One of the most important things about the bag is how comfortable it is and i get on really well with this and i think. That could partly be because of the nature of these shoulder straps it’s actually one bit of fabric runs straight. From the base of the bag over the. Shoulders and down the front you can see it completely wraps around which makes it really comfortable all the way around and especially now I’ve taking. That back bit of padding out it just molds into your body really nicely so one thing that it’s most commonly criticized for is that it has two chest straps but no waist strap and a lot of people will say that that creates a bit too much side-to-side bouncing when they’re running i can definitely see that point but i don’t really experience it too badly myself and i think that’s partly because i found a configuration that really works for me on the front here i tend to pack. A lot of the weight in the bag place for my body to avoid bouncing if i do experience any bouncing i tend to try and adjust my running to be a little normal glider which i guess i see is a win-win situation i kind of want to be a little bit more glide ii so the chest straps themselves are actually really nicely adjustable they’re set into these sliders here which you can move them up and down so i found best. For security for me is to have one right. At the top and then slide the bottom one right down to the bottom and that kind. Of clips me in nicely either side of the rib cage by far my biggest issue with this bag is full of my decision to take polls to the mds oh now handily enough. There’s actually some really nice. Elastic straps on the back that hold them nicely in place you can put them down here there’s a clippable elastic. Bungee that you can wrap them around and have them nice and secure on the back of. The pack like that but i know having. Poles on the back of the bag i will never use them so really i need to have. Then on the front straps but unfortunately on the front straps there’s nothing there that’s made to hold the poles so I’ve had to try and budge something to make it work for me now unfortunately i haven’t made life easy for my selves and I’ve got poles that fold into four sections which means. That both the handle and the pointer at the bottom which means that when it’s. Going down this way there’s nothing really to hold on to the top of the pole so my first idea was to put a hook at. That i tied on to one of these things here and i took this string on the top. And then i tied it to the side that worked it was actually quite comfortable. But it was just so fiddly I’m hooking this and hooking it back on again i probably was never going to use my poles because it was too fiddly so then. I tried other things i tried to pass them on to the front which is a terrible idea don’t try that it was awful and i also tried to fasten it down here somewhere which again didn’t work so my final winning solution simply uses two pieces of elastic one of which just ties. Straight around the strap and around the water bottle here and one which fixes on. To the bottom buckle over here and that one has a sliding clip on it so all we. Do is we take the end of the poles and put it through the bottom bit of elastic we tie that site then put the end over the spike which. Then holds that in position and stops it falling down then the top you just feed. Through that top bit of elastic which. Holds it nice and securely in place so that’s nicely out the way and more. Importantly it’s a really light solution and i know it’s going to be simple enough for me to deploy and actually use the poles when i need to use them so that is the ultimate direction fast pack 20 is a massive winner for me really recommend it if you are doing a multi-day ultra or if you just do a lot of running weekend so check it out.

So how we do guys your old pal baba ganoush you once again how is everybody doing so I’m up here in new jersey right. Now I’m up here visiting my family for a few days moving some things out of my. Apartment up to here and so i figured I’d get out and go for a nice quick day. Hike so I’m actually up on the appalachian trail right now no up in the northern. New jersey section it is a nice crisp 22. Degrees out this morning so i know what. You’re thinking bob what in the world you’re doing only wearing a long-sleeved. T-shirt you’re gonna catch cold well you know if you watch my videos you. Know me i like to keep things nice and light nice and simple i run really warm. As it is and I’d rather not sweat with. It being so cold out here i know am i just out for a day hike but even. Stopping and standing still for a few minutes if i start to sweat i can just. Feel the cold really kick in so I’m just. Keeping it nice and light give myself a little bit warmer this is the under armor cold gear so it does still keep me fairly warm but most importantly it’s. Breathable keeps me dry i still have leggings on underneath my hiking pants gloves on hat on all that stuff all that. Good stuff I’m good to go but enough. Chitchat so i was looking at this view behind me I’m out here for another reason and that. Is to talk about my brand-new day pack that’s right i got a brand-new day pack its something that is really awesome super comfortable so and i figured what. Better way to review it and bring it out on an actual day hike get the feel for it and talk about what i think about the. Backpack thus far so let me get some miles in let me continue on the way get warmed up a little bit here who’s gonna be a beautiful day i got some beautiful views for you guys stay tuned we got some good stuff to talk about drill barnacle. How you do everybody so it’s been a. Beautiful day hiking this far coming towards the end or i have to turn back around and head on back so i figured i. Would stop talk to you about the brand-new day pack that i just recently purchased so i present to you guys the. Mystery ranch screen 35 litres let’s go. Ahead and do a quick turn around so i am. So excited to finally own a piece of mystery ranch gear they are a really popular backpacking company they make lots of really cool gear as well I’m an. Rei just started carrying them so of course i had to pick it up now of course i know should probably stay involved what are you doing spending there’s money you’re trying to get ready for through like well you know what my current day pack the rei traverse not that there was really anything wrong with it was a fairly comfortable backpack but i always had problems with the hip belt rubbing my hips raw no matter how many times I’ve used it no matter how many layers i put on it would always rub my hips raw i need to get. Something a little bit different so i wasn’t killing myself you know heading on into my through bike so i want to pick this bad boy up let me start off by saying it is an immensely comfortable. Backpack i tried it on with like 15 pounds of weight and it felt like nothing so a couple things I’m going to. Cover with this backpack here today number one I’ll cover some of the specs of the backpack some of the dimensions so on and so forth secondly from there we’ll talk about some of the main features of the backpack itself and then I’ll talk about the main features that i really like about the backpack why i wanted to get it and especially moving forward why i wanted to get a backpack like this so it is pretty chilly out. Here let me take this guy off let me put my puffy on, and then we’ll go ahead and get on into the backpack itself so okay guys just some quick specs about the backpack itself again this is the mystery ranch skree backpack so to start off with this. Is a 35 litre backpack i know it’s a. Little bit on the larger side of day packs but i wanted to go with the larger side day pack for a particular reason one i can carry some extra weight some. Other little odds and ends and as well moving for with this backpack i wanted to get a little bit more versatility out of it this is the medium/large version you do. Have some torso adjustment this is gonna be about 21 to 22 inches long on the. Frame just the initial frame itself not. When you extend the torso as long so you. Can get away with this as a carry-on size luggage if you really need to you’re looking at about 9 to 10 inches. Deep really nothing too bad there and. You’re looking at about 13 to 14 inches wide there so pretty nice dimensions. Again 35 later you can use this as a carry-on piece of luggage if you really had to the overall weight of the backpack if i remember correctly is right around two and a half pounds don’t quote me on that i will leave that answer in the description down below so. Right around to two and a half pounds so not too bad it is a very supportive backpack and as well what i like about it is waterproof, but we’ll go ahead and talk about that in a little bit and last but not least this does retail for. One 7995 down at your local rei so a. Little bit more on the expensive side but as i get into some of the details and some of the features about the backpack you’ll understand why it’s a little bit more expensive than some other options okay so let’s go into some. Of the features that you’re gonna get with the backpack let me start on this side first and foremost so down the down on the bottom you do have two hip belts. Pockets down here i know a backpackers favorite just having access to those snacks some ready available items kind. Of thing like that really nice what i really love about this backpack is they have really heavy cushions. Shoulder straps it’s almost as if they took the shoulder straps off they’re bigger backpacks and put it on this one itself so it makes it really supportive standard sternum strap tether. You have down here but what i really like that they did was that they have this kind of elastic piece here this. Kind of elastic clipping system so if you do have a water bladder you can lash down the hose or if you need to keep a knife whatever the case maybe it has. This a little elastic I’ve been utilizing it to hold my go pro. Right there really cool feature right off the bat for me especially and of. Course it comes with some of your standard adjustment load lifters up top fully of all really nice coming on to. The side here you do have your mesh water bottle pockets sitting there pretty nice size i think i can fit two of these smaller size water bottles in there you can easily fit a full liter nalgene without a problem now they are. Pretty they are pretty vertical so what. I found out is the best way to get your bottle in our number one getting them out is push up from the bottom and it quickly pops out there for you to get it. In i notice that if i grab the whole water bottle and then push it in it’s a. Little bit easier to get my water bottle in and out that way while it’s still on my body you do have these on both sides. Of the backpack coming on up to the top. Here you do have number one a quick easy access pocket there I’m just keeping some snacks in there right now and then right in front of it you do have a deeper access quick grab pocket I’m. Keeping just my car keys my wallet just. Some other odds and ends so on and so forth right now and of course along the top you do have. Some different loops some different looping systems to where if you need to lash down equipment now flipping it on. Over to the front here this is really where it makes its money so to start off. With blatantly out in the obvious is this kind of y shaped zipper this is a. Fully taped sipper so a waterproof zipper what’s really cool is opening. This thing up the way it kind of splays out really nice wide lid right off the. Top and as you can see it kind of has this extra collar so as it’s zipped over. With those two zippers coming together you know that there’s not going to be any water kind of leaking in through. That small little gap so really nice on their part there before i zip down the. Front across the front you do have all these different daisy chains and different loops and everything that you have there another great way for lashing down equipment whether it be axes climbing equipment so on and so forth. Really nice and convenient they already provide you with that you do of course have not only dual-purpose lashing clips as well as compression. Clips across the front this helps keep everything together you can strap down extra equipment if you have to and then. Of course the big thing here again a tape zipper fully waterproof this is. Opens on up as you can see i have just some puffy jackets just a fleece hoodie. I my rain jacket sitting in there right now but it’s cool how everything opens up in one shot inside is a fully coated inside so going. Along with the tape zipper you do have. That waterproof coating to make sure everything inside stays nice and dry now. Inside there i know it’s behind a bunch of stuff right now but you do have a small hydration sleeve it’s not overly. Large to be honest with you can. Probably fit like maybe a 1/2 liter 1. Liter one and a half liter bladder if you had to but it’s intended to fit more. Of like a small actual tactical water bladder not one of those camel bags for. Casual purpose so really nice features. Really nice and versatile as well multi-purpose and love how it’s waterproof all by itself making this a. Really durable backpack any long-lasting backpack up on top of that so that price. Tag starts to look a little bit better doesn’t it so ok guys why did i get this. Backpack i know I’m getting ready for my. Thru-hike why would i spend the money on a brand-new day pack well for starters like i said before my other one was raw. I needed something a little bit more comfortable so that it wasn’t tearing my. Hips apart and creating problems for my thru-hike that’s number one number two. As well i wanted something that when i get off the trail was help was going to. Help me go into my next phase of my youtube channel now i know i do a lot of. The back packing a lot of camping and a lot of that other awesome stuff as well and i love doing it but i would like to. Get into more of the climbing aspect of things so especially a waterproof backpack tons of the lashing points something that’s really supportive really ideal for that climber you know. Being able to carry your ropes your quick links some of your different harnesses everything lashed out on the outside something super convenient and. As well an extension to the backpacking. I wanted to get into some of the more bush craft side of things as well so. Again fully waterproof backpack number one that’s awesome with what i want to do with all the different last points being able to carry an axe being. Able to carry heavier knives wool blankets on the outside and some basic equipment on the inside really good for that and of course being having. A super supportive suspension system and being able to carry some of. Those heavier bush craft items something really ideal for me so i know it’s a little bit oversized for a day pack at 35 liters but it’s something that i plan. On utilizing a lot moving forward and in. A lot of different ways and this gives me the versatility necessary to do that so for anyone looking for a new day pack something to take them traveling something to look for a waterproof option great for climbing great for. Mountaineering great for bush craft as well definitely take a look at the mystery ranch scree a really good. Backpack this is the first day I’ve had it out and so far i am so impressed with. This i can easily take this for a night or two if i really had to but i have it. Through mike to get ready for first and foremost we’ll talk about that down the road so thank you guys so much following. Along on another great video here whew. Starting to cool down a little bit i guess it’s time, but we snapped up got up. On the way so thank you guys so much for.
