Welcome to the fly fishers and the fly fishers calm today we're gonna be talking about some sims product videos my name is tony ferry I'm with sims fishing we're gonna take a look today at. The new g3 guide boot totally re-engineered and redesigned for 2018 sims took a proven winner and made it. Better starting just looking at the boot. Itself contemporary looks we've lowered the height of the boot about oh 10 millimeters it's about 3/8 of an inch should make it a little easier on and off we've added new hardware and in fact. We've added extra set of our hardware down low towards a toe for a true lace to toe design gives you a little bit. Better fit a little more customizable we also added locking hardware where the. Lace starts to come up the ankle the. Idea here is you can cinch your laces down walk around a little bit finish lacing up make sure your boot is custom and in feeling right on your foot. Construction wise from a material standpoint we're using a scratch rubber. Upper a waterproof nu buck leather sort. Of synonymous with the guide boot or g3 boot molded tpu heel cups as well as a. New molded tpu heel pull on makes it. Super easy to hook your fingers pull the boot onto your heel and you're getting set to hit the river from a rubber. Standpoint we've redone the outsole still. Using the vibram hydro grip it's four millimeters thick it is the grittiest rubber for river in wet environments. Moving into just the interior neoprene. Line makes the boot easy on easy off. These boots are new for 2014 they have some awesome new features but let's start with the g3 guide the g3 guide. Weighs in at about 810 grams and features the same waterproof leather. Outsold you've seen on the guide boot for many years this is not a felt boot. So it's totally environmentally friendly what's new about this guide boot in. Addition to a little bit lighter weight and last year is the sol it comes with. River tread which is simms brand-new. Enhanced feedback soul and has feedback. Is what they call proprioception it. Means that you can feel the bottom of the river a lot better with your foot. This sole has specific mounting points. For both star bite a luma bite and hard. Bite studs g3 also features simms. Out of the vapor the first thing i noticed when i put them on was how much lighter they were than the g3 you really. Notice that weight difference which is going to be great while hiking the vapor. New and interesting about the vapor is that it's the first simms boot is a hybrid hiking wading design so the vapor. The other hand if you're looking for the maximum performance in the river packed. With traditional simms look and feel and. Excellent comfort g3s for you personally. All right been here from trying to fly fishing calm today we've got a great new comparison test for you we're comparing the sims g3 guide boot to the sims g4. Boa boot both these boots are top-of-the-line and new for 2014 and. Both of them are packed with awesome features we'll start by walking you through the sims g4 boa the first thing. You'll notice about the g4 boot is it's got the boa enclosure system this is not simms first time using the boa they use it on the now-discontinued river tec boa. Boot but they've modified it a little bit for the g4 the first major change is. That it features a single bow wire which. Presumably makes it a little bit less prone to breakage than the river tec i. Use the river tec for a couple of years without any problems, but we have heard of people breaking that boot out of the field the other thing you'll notice is that it's a side enclosure so you really have to pull this boot open to get your. Foot in the next thing that really stands out on the g4 is its spaceship. Like looks, you've got tpu coded textiles. Synthetic leather on the upper plus some silicone pads here which help. In those key wear areas all in all this. Is not a classic looking sims boot but. Really fits into their line nicely look and feel wise it's also fully neoprene lined for added warmth and comfort just. Like you'd expect from sins now let's. Turn to the g3 the g3 is a very classic. Looking sims boot it's really falls in line to what you've seen from the sims g3 guide boot for years and years but with some updated features it's got a little bit of this tpu coated nylon but you'll still notice the same leather. Uppers they're waterproof it's got the same fully neoprene lined inner for. Warmth and added comfort and lots of ankles support now both of these boots feature the new river treads sole the. River tread sole adds what sims call. Proprioception what that means for you is that you're going to get added feel and added grip on the river bottom unlike the hard soles that you've seen in the past the river treads sole flexes. A little bit which allows your feet to get that added feedback makes you a little bit more stable the other thing about the river tread soul is that it features mounting points for. Your cleats you can't just haphazardly mount your cleats wherever you'd like you could in the past but rather there are specific locations that are optimized by sims to give you maximum grip in the water so again starting with the performance of the g for the first thing i noticed was when i put them on is the. Boa enclosure unlike the old river tec. Boa boots the single boa enclosure really. Takes a super long time to put together. Which for me really seems to take a lot. Of the benefit out of that boa boot it really gave you a lot of ankles support and tightened up nicely up top but in. The mid section i just didn't have the. Some security that i got with a traditional lace and i felt like my heel. Was always coming up just made it a. Little bit more unsteady in the water on the other hand the bow is really streamlined once you get it together there're no laces dangling nothing to get. Caught in the river i also like the. Added abrasion resistance points here. With these silicone pads felt like it make the boot last a lot longer now the. G3 on the other hand was very much the. Opposite it's got laces that do dangle but i wasn't really able to customize that fit and make them really nice and. Snug which gave me that added confidence in the river and it still got loads of. Ankle supports just like we saw in the g4 now both of these boots featured river tread and that worked really well in the. River i felt like it gave me added confidence maybe weighed out a little bit too far and a little bit too fast at. Water so does river tread give you. Proprioception i would say yes there is. Added feedback and i think the new sims. Boots are definitely an upgrade in terms. Of tread over the original g3 guide. Version the rear tread is also a great hiking sole it's a little bit heavier than some of the other options out there but it gives you plenty of traction when you're hiking so looking at these boots head-to-head you've got the g4 boot which weighs in at about eight hundred and thirty grams is the 810 grams on the g3 virtually the. Same unnoticeable weight difference the. G4 is a great boot if you've got a. Standard foot that's going to fit well. With this boa enclosure on the other hand if you've got a little bit of an odd shaped foot like i do the added customizability on the g3 made a lot of. Difference for me i didn't feel my heel picking up and i got that same traction. In the water the big selling point for this boot is going to be the bow enclosure so if you're a boa fan go with the g4 if not save yourself a little bit. Of money and go with the g3 the g4 or. So i got my new Eddington waiters in. The mail from adam next day i returned my large 1213 size for the large long's. As you saw previously i thought the. Regular large 12 13s were just a tad. Short and i was worried about the booby says with the large long's i believe the. Booty size they get smaller but looking. Back it doesn't seem that much tighter so. We'll try them on just so you can see what they look like difference but I'm. Very happy with the purchase and avonex did a great job excellent customer service returned home sent me the new. Ones with i would any questions asked so. There we go the large lungs definitely. Have a lot more room especially in like. Crotch region before when i was sitting. Down and pretending the over logs the. Large 1213 just didn't seem to be loose. Enough so I'm very happy i upgraded and swap them out for the large loans it. Might be a little larger at the top and a little bit bigger just in general however in the long term i think they're gonna wear a lot better than if i were to have stayed with the shorter ones that we're just a little tight a little uncomfortable I'm very happy thank you. hi I'm Dave Allen I'm the fly-fishing sales rep for Patagonia. We are looking at the Patagonia waiting boot lineup. And specifically looking at the new ultralight boot. This is the most popular boot in the line. We updated this boot for the spring 2016 line. And the main update is. We just beefed it up a little bit. We didn't want to walk away from. That fast and light category. This boot is only 2 ounces heavier. Then the previous iteration but. We definitely made it a much. More durable boot we beefed up the upper considerably. Most notably we brought the rubber rand up considerably higher in the boot it's. Now triple stitched in. We moved the eyelets from plastic to metal eyelets which makes them much. More durable in my opinion the. Most important durability update to. This boot is no matter who the manufacturer is the. Most common area I've seen a boot blowout is gonna be. That inside seam I think we've. All seen and so as. You can see here on. Both sides of the boot. We brought the rubber rand up. And tucked it in behind the first two eyelets to prevent. That lateral blowout from happening in the boot the ultralight boot comes in two sole bottoms. You get a felt sole bottom as well as a rubber sole bottom the felt sole is stitched. And glued in so it won't shouldn't be falling off. And the other option the ultralight boot also comes in a soft rubber sole as well. Some of our competitors like use Vibram there's a great rubber composite for long time durability it's great for a hiking boot but not necessarily great for walking around the trout stream the barometer.

Or stiffness of rubber. You could compare it to say like the tires. You know your summer tire road tire is gonna be much harder. And it's gonna last much longer but it's gonna be very slippery. And you're more slippery wet snow conditions. You know you want a softer rubber for the slippery conditions like a snow tire which means it's going to wear a little bit faster but that's why we oversize the lugs. And the tread on the bottom of the boot to account for. That additional wear so. If you're doing a lot of hiking a lot of rock jumping you know rubber soled boot is a way to go but with. That softer rubber you'll get much better traction for a rubber sole boot we're at 189.

Hey gang we will hear from the ash land fly shop and today we're reviewing the ultralight, or they revised ultralight boot from patagonia and as we're heading. Into our first fall fishing season now. We're really excited to have this boot in the lineup it fits in a really nice place between some of our more heavy-duty boots that are more like hiking boots and then some of our lighter more economic boots that are they're a little bulky a little heavy the ultralight boot sits right in a sweet spot there and it's made with really high-end materials it's very. Lightweight but the revised version we like a lot more because they kind of brought the round up on the boot a. Little bit higher and i think it's gonna end up being a bit more durable boot. Which is some of the issues we had with the original tour ultralight boot i was. Fortunate enough to grab this boot and take it up to bc with me on a trip just a few weeks ago and just perform. Beautifully I'd been having a little trouble with fit and a couple of my other boots and then also i didn't want. To take rubber up there and so the felt. Boot the ultralight boot just worked perfectly it fit fantastic and. Just performed flawlessly for me really a nice supple boot it really. Moved well when i was waiting so if you have trouble with a stiff boot or a boot that's not really moving very well with your foot i encourage you to give this one a try because that's what i really got out of it's really flexible it really moved with me and i appreciated. That very much from the boot it's got a. Nice high collar so grab my ankle well. But again still allowed me to move around quite a bit as i stumbled over many large rocks and yeah just was.
