Most popular climbing shoes mainly because they're very balanced they do a little bit of everything and most people haven't got to the stage where they have three four five pairs of climbing shoes, and they want one climbing shoe that does a little bit of everything they're a seven panel design so most people. Think that the intermediate they're not we've actually got just as many pieces as a drago so and the pattern that. Stitches them is very hard to do it's a very small kicker at the front here you can even see the outline on the shoe and that's because the toe position in vapor is a little bit flatter that's because vapor we really wanted to. Make it an aging and smearing shoe that. Had a good balance between either the first version of the vapor was almost all ever and then the next version of. The vapor was a combination of synthetic and other materials and then the last version of the vapor that we got here is. Synthetic on both sides with a leather at the bottom so the version before i. Had suede leather on the inside here, and we exchanged that from microfiber and. That made the upper a little bit softer as well as we reduce the volume of the tongue and tapered it a little bit so that made the whole shoe a little bit softer, so we put a new plastic insert on the inside and previously. Tail is just a little bit stiffer we also extended the plastic up and over the heel so it just gave a little bit more structure to the shoe because changing out the leather for the synthetic softened the upper, and we didn't want to change the characteristic of the shoe very much for climbing we just really wanted to make it a little bit more comfortable and a little less of breaking in period but the same performance one of the other things that you'll notice it's got a excess grip to. Here with two layers so that's something that we previously did on the instinct model and a lot of people really liked it, so we put this onto the model it adds a little bit more labor but it gives the heel the ability to. Change shape and obviously it gives the best rubber for heel hooking on the other side so overall we improved. Basically the characteristics so the. Shoe could break in a little bit faster but in the end the shoe remains on the. Same last with the same shape and just a. Color update and a softening of the upper and a stiffening of the mid sole the vapor woman's and the vapor men's. Are on different lasts so they have. Different rubbers so you'll see this sample prototypes got excess edge it's actually excess group two on the women's and it's excess edge on the men's but. That's not really the biggest difference the biggest difference is the total volume of the shoe so especially in the heel the volume is a lot narrower and more sculptured on the female version than it is on the male i mean a. Lot of people are choosing the shoes off the outside looks it's not what we want. We want them to look inside and climb with the shoe but in the end the velcro. Strap looked a little bit nicer with a little bit of 3d print pulling it out the strapless is the same we did insert. A piece of elastic in the middle here just to kind of keep that flat and keep. A real snug fit because we felt the straps just pulled in two points and the middle point didn't get pulled in enough so that's why the velcro versions. Changed slightly on either side we did a lot of changes on it in the hope that we. Would make it more comfortable but changed nothing about the characteristic of the shoe and you know in the end that meant that we changed the whole mid sole the shape and the plastic so it's its. Probably it is yeah it's a totally. Different shoe with the same characteristic when you climb but um i think it shows that you can't just fit all with one layer and not affect the whole shoot so each layer has an. Effect doesn't matter what you do even just changing the material will change the way it comes out at 2019 and. The price is a moderate increase but i. Think it's marginal five bucks ten. Bucks yeah, so we tried as much as we could to keep the same price but obviously there's a little bit more work especially in the heel it's gone from a single layer here or to a dual layer. Foam where you need it there on the lumbar pad it's a really comfortable lumbar pad and then behind the shoulder. Straps you have die cut foam that foam. Comfortable cushioning on the shoulders and a lot of cushioning on the hip belt and the hip belt does have a little bit of rigidity to it too so it definitely carries the load well now. Obviously you've got your load lifter straps up here that give you some adjust ability this comes in three different sizes so you can't actually adjust the harness up and down but you. Can use the those load lifters to dial in the fit and just choose the. Particular size that's right for your. Torso in addition to the adjust ability. There you do have an adjustable sternum straps you can move that up and down. While I'm on the back of the pack you do have a hydration sleeve inside the pack. You can route the hydration hose out through the middle here and you even. Have a little catch here for the hose on. This side now the hydration system itself isn't included, but they do give. You this smaller pack this can be hung. Inside of the backpack as the sleeve for. Your hydration system but you can as well. Take it out and use it as a summit pack you've got really lightweight and stretchy straps here so those are comfortable the material here is nice. Here stretches out really big you could put a small camera in there or something like that so really good size pockets. There and then on the lid you have the access into the. Back I've got a first aid kit in their so items you want to get your hands on quickly or lightweight items can be. Stored up there on the side of the pack. You have two very stretchy meshes pockets big enough to accommodate any size water. Bottle I've got a 32 ounce water bottle. In there and it fits well you've even got a compression strap on the front so you can compress that down and if you're. Just going on an overnight or a short trip you've got compression straps all over this pack to make the load a little bit smaller you have a full-size lid here. And you can store lots of gear in there so then that gives you access into the. Body of the pack there's even a small hidden pocket back here and that's a. Great feature for travel you've got really easy access into the top of the pack with a nice big opening that's. Really easy to use and i found that this. Pull handle is really nice as well so there're little attentions to detail make. A big difference it's all the access you need into that big pocket then you do. Have access in a couple more areas so. Something i really appreciate about this pack you have a nice big u-shaped zipper. Here where you can access all the gear. That you need that's in the middle of your pack it's tucked away back here so. It doesn't add a lot of weight to the pack but as you can see i can open that. Up nice and wide almost like a piece of luggage and get to all the gear that's in the middle of the pack so i can grab for whatever i need if you're traveling. With this pack taking it overseas you can use it like that so really nice almost hidden pocket there. And then down on the bottom you have access into a sleeping bag compartment down there these zipper poles are so. Easy to use, and they make it nice and easy to get to the bottom now there is a. Divider in between the bottom and the. Middle of the pack but you can tuck that away if you need full access into the whole pack now also behind the scenes there is a. Hidden rain cover the rain cover is. Custom fit for the pack and it's in its own designated pocket right here so rain cover matches the pack and it. Adds a lot of value so you don't have to purchase a separate rain cover in the. Front a nice stretchy dump pocket too and then as you can see all over the. First of all if you haven't watched my how to choose the right travel backpack video i recommend that you watch that one so that you can understand what we're getting into today I'm going to be talking about the three c's comfort capacity and convenience alright allow. Me to introduce you to my go to travel backpack the Gregory jade 50 it's a. Women's size small for my torso and the. Number 50 is the pack capacity in litres why is this important three reasons. Number one the fact that it's a size. Small is not only great for fitting my torso perfectly but it's a bonus because. Check this out oh whoa thanks okay this. Backpack is about 20 to 21 inches that. Makes it small enough to carry on which is really important to me because i prefer to carry on whenever possible the. Second reason the 50 is perfect for me is that it's small enough so that it discourages me from over packing yet. It's still big enough to fit everything that i need and the third reason is that. It seems to be the perfect size for any length of trip that i take i can take it. For weeks or months it always seems to be the perfect size for me and now we'll talk about comfort look closely at the. Frame of this backpack it's actually shaped against the curve of my back. There's lumbar support at the bottom and there's shoulder support at the top and. The frame never actually touches my back. So when a backpack fits right all the. Weight should be right on your hips and this should be fastened just above your hip bone so once i get all the straps at. Just the right length I'm actually really comfortable and i actually hiked machu picchu with this backpack for three days straight and i didn't have any problems with being sore i also packed like so keep that in mind all right on the convenience it's. Think i like about this specific zipper is that the zipper is actually tucked in pretty close to my body so that when I'm wearing it's harder for a thief to. Get to and if you notice right here i. Actually keep a safety pin right there on that loop and that way i can safety. Pin the loop to the strap and it creates a lock on the zipper so i wouldn't have to worry about people trying to get into it anyway alright moving on if you open. It up you'll see that on the inside i. Don't know if you could see this from there, but we'll try there's a pocket. Right against the back here i don't know if you can see it but it fits documents. I always put my flight reservations and important things extra stash of money right there in that pocket because it's almost hidden and the rest of it is just a big open space I've actually got a pillow stuffed in there right now to show you and then on the outside the. First thing that you'll notice is this big bulky pouch and what i love about. This is that i actually use it to put my. Shoes in and you'll see that I've got some shoes in it right here this is a. Very versatile pouch for anything that's. Bulky shaped or maybe muddy i put muddy shoes muddy clothes in here all the time. So that's a great spot for any kind of. Shoes and then on the outside of this there's a long vertical pouch and this. Is actually pretty big this is where i keep my flip-flops because it seems to be the perfect size pocket for a flat pair of flip-flops and then on each side there are these. Adjustable pockets right here which you could also put shoes in or water bottles. There's a velcro if you're not going to use it and there's also a strap right here that you could put around the top of a water bottle or the end of a shoe to hold it in there and that's on both. Sides of this backpack there's also on. The very bottom besides the mud there're some straps here. You could put something long shaped in. This so like when i take this backpacking in the summer camping that's. Where i put my sleeping pad because it's a long awkward shape and it doesn't even then have to go into my backpack it just goes right on the bottom and the last. At the bottom of my backpack without having to take everything out through the top every time when i need something that's packed deep and i almost forgot.
