Impression of these base layer pants they are way softer than i would have imagined last year i tested the women's phd. Research rain sombrero it's a hat that. Obviously you know was meant to shield. From the weather and the sun wind rain. Snow that kind of thing but it's its. Worked really well for me I've worn it in sleet and I've worn it in some. Pretty good rain that i had for a couple. Hours i was in it was also in some windy. Conditions which happens around here and that really i was impressed that it did. Stay on some pretty strong gusts i had. To kind of you know tilt my head down a little bit if i was walking kind of tilt my head. Back against the wind but it wasn't it. Wasn't bad it's worked really well vary. Very comfortable you can see as a draw. String here that pulls right up to the neck and it stays you know fairly snug. Again if you're in some pretty violent weather it's probably going to come off. But you know this hat isn't made for that one of the things also about it. Is if you're wanting a little bit more. Visibility and get a little bit more. Wind a little more draft you can you. Now you can kind of fold it up into a. Onto the sides and you know wear it. Around just like that around your head. So to speak but you know it's great for. Shade as well i did wear it in some sunny weather on a hike and it really. Gave me some good shade kelly kept me cool which does bring me to one thing it. Is lines as well on the inside and so it. Does get a little warm you know you can. Get a little sweaty with it's a you. Now it but it doesn't drench you and it does with the this the sweat away pretty. Good but it does it can get a little. Warm i wore it and probably temperatures of mid-80s to low 80s on some days and i. Did get a little warm with it but um. Yeah it's waterproof gore-tex on you can. Even the label here is on the back and it has the old outdoor research on. The front not much else i can say it. Does its job and it compacts pretty well. You know if you got to smash it down into a pack or something like that while. You're hiking moving around traveling. Whatever it is that you need to do so. Let's go over it you know that the four apps the fashion i think it looks. Sharp i think it looks good a lot of people i actually have told me they liked it some of my friends from places where. They play rugby a little more often. I've told me that I'm sorry not rugby. When they have played cricket a little. More often you don't want to wear this hat playing rugby, but they've told me. You know kind of looks like a cricket hat so it looks good little variation. Fashion-wise from the your typical sun hat hiking hat kind of thing i like it. Wide brim you know you can see it covers. A lot and fashion by far give it a five. I like it folds it up you know it's alright not bad. Not quite my style but you know if i. Need it to do it I'll do it. So yeah fit fashion give it a 5 for sure. I think it does come in another color. Maybe like a greenish color i don't remember or a grayish color i definitely has a neutral color though that you. Now you have to choose from i would also for the fit very nice fit. Definitely fit my hat size well. Outdoor research has it the sizing. Balanced out quite well with their scale. And how they have their hat sizes so fit. Great job outdoor research and that very. Comfortable very soft i mean a head shaved and i can still tell you even without hair it's pretty. Comfortable to me so definitely a thigh. For the fit function absolutely a 5. Wearing it in and a downpour i didn't. Feel a drop and it dried pretty fast wearing it in snow and sleet was. Great cut off goths cut off guard outside and it definitely did well for. Me so function outstanding like i said. The only drawback is in really strong gusts but again this hat isn't really designed for that and then fair you know outdoor. Research is doing some things to make sure a fair trade and doing things for. The environment with their materials there's an article online in fact from. 2008 there was a outdoor brands that got. Together apparel and equipment brands that got together in boulder colorado and for a. Panel or for a convention and on the. Panel was one of was a representative for outdoor research so again they're. Pretty proactive in trying to be fair with equally equal labor fair labor. And environmental works so a fair for. Sure a five haven't really ever seen anything to sell you otherwise i hope. You find the same but again this is outdoor research of sombrero and works. Great for hiking hanging out around town. Any pretty much any kind of outdoor activity you're gonna do where you're not having to deal with a lot of strong winds or you know things that you might encounter biking or running wouldn't be. For that everything else though definitely a great buy i got this on. Amazon pretty cheap but got it for a. Is an aqua guard vessel on zipper it seals out moisture so you don't have that rainwater sneaking in through the zipper and kind of the same story on the pockets here you have two kind of higher. Set hand level pockets so even if you're. Wearing a harness you can still access those which is really nice lots of. Different activities here other features. Here you get some adjust ability on the. Cuffs so if it's raining really hard you. Can seal that in so that rainwater doesn't sneak through the sleeve here. But other than that it's a really lightweight jacket other than these two hand level pockets you don't have any other pockets on the jacket to just keep that weight down at the hem you. Have a stretchy draw cord that goes off to one side and if i turn this around. You can actually see a drop ten in the. Bad so if you cinch that down you've got a lot of protection here a little bit. Longer down there with this jacket now the hood is really functional you. Don't have much adjust ability back here. On the hood so that keeps the weight down and it fits well over top of a. Helmet you can put it underneath the helmet if you wanted to but if you're just hiking and you're not wearing a helmet you can really cinch it down through. These cinch cords right here too really. Batten everything down and to get a nice. Snug fit over all the stretch of this. Material is really what makes it stand out you don't see a lot of rain jackets on the market that have this amount of. Longer the pants are made kind of in the. Style of a pair of jeans so you got your belt loops you got a little patch in the. Back and then of course you've got a. Number of pockets they're made of like a canvas type material, and they've actually got some stretch to them so if i have a look at the legs for example. There's a good articulation in the knee area and there's a bit of give and stretch another good feature of climbing. Pants or trekking pants is actually in this you'll notice the back here they've actually got a bit of a micro chamois lying back this is important cuz if you're wearing a harness and if you've got a heavy backpack and there's a lot of motion back there what can happen is if it's not smooth it'll actually rub on. Your back and give you some chafing in the lower back it's nice to see they thought of that little touch with a bit of chamois in the back it just does have what they call a spf or upf rating its. A rating of 50 pretty sure if i put these on I'm not gonna get a sunburn on my legs so that's not really all that surprising mountain hardwear's a company that's pretty synonymous with tough goods, and they back up that claim with a. Well i say the hints kind of in the name that they are called stretch for a reason you've got a four-way stretch so you've got four-way stretch going down and then you've got a full waist stretch going across so it's going to take a lot of pressure points on there as design ideal for climbing as well as scrambling any way that's going through some of the key features now shall we now firstly obviously you do get this belt with it and it's quite a nice cool belt as well it's a little lock system in place like that and then you just port in that and. That clicks it into place and then obviously you've got the compression strap on the side so that's going to hold it in place storage wise and pocket wise on the front here all you've only got is this front zip here this front pocket I'm sure that's nice and deep down so that goes down to pretty much just above the knee and it's nice and wide as well so you can get you know an os map or harvey's map in there and then the fact that it's sealed up as well as if that means you know whatever you're popping this is going to stay safe and secure the only other feature you can kind of see from the front is the zips that you've got on the side there which are going to help increase breath ability you know if you're doing a bit of trail running you can open it up and as you can see that opens up pretty wide as well and it just shows you all the sealant on the inside just to show you as well you do have a top zip as well. Let me just grab that from the bottom. There so they're not open to have and as you can see it pretty many opens up all the way to the hip as well so you can play around with the zips just for having breath ability so the back itself. It is pretty much a standard affair there's no other pockets or anything on them as i say it's really about keeping yourself nice and dry and nice and lightweight well you will notice there're slight grooves and whether knees are just going to give you an ergonomic fit so as i say it's going to move with you rather than against you it's not drained pipes as i say it's in just a nice. Jacket so let's take a closer look now shall be so this jacket is waterproof and it is breathable and it is nice and. Lightweight what really stands out with this jacket is the actual stretch technology that's on it so if i just put it out here you've got stretch obviously going that way and obviously you've got stretch going that way as well so whether you're gonna be doing a bit of running full walking even some just generally to and fro and backpacking in the actual jacket is designed to stretch and to move with you that now that makes this jacket well to be fair very special as i said the flexibility really is key tip anyway let's go through the features of the jacket so obviously you've got your traditional nice high neck collar there and it's got nice it's nice and spacious in the neck as well so even if you've got a shoot or a scarf you know you might suffocate yourself you've got a nice traditional chest pocket mice and spacious on the inside. There and obviously you've got the kind of the mesh paneling on the back there's also the breath ability as well it's all going to come through and just to finish it off you've obviously got your zip which has a storm flap to protect that as well now you've got two hip pockets as well nice and spacious on the inside of c as well as having. Your traditional mesh material yet again for breath ability and then yet again you've got your zips as well so whatever you pop in there your keys your wallet your mobile phones it would obviously stay safe and secure the zips themselves. Are tight should say it's not waterproof its water resistant and that's only because just purely just because there's a little crack that runs down the side there so don't think it's completely waterproof obviously on the front on the main zip you will see that it does have an exposed zip but if we open it up the actual storm flap itself is actually tucked away behind it so it's still going to give you keep your waterproof and it's also going to help with wind reduction as well so it won't interfere with your core body temperature on the inside it's a pretty standard if they obviously they want to keep this jacket lightweight and obviously you want it to work with moving the stretch technology so there're no pockets or anything on the inside there at the only thing you've got this kind of your hood adjusters which are tucked away in their nicely and as i say if you don't want to take them off you can as you take them out as well you know if they look like them you know touching your inside should we say you know your inner parts but zip this up and let's take a closer look at the back so what you will notice even though it. Does have a stretched technology in the way that it's designed us to be closer and to obviously move through view it still does have an alpine fit to it to give you a closer fit as well so slightly inwards on the sides there and it does have a slight droop in the bottom there and as i said this design with the stretch technology it's going to give you a really nice and a really comfortable fit all the way through so. Even as i say you doing a bit of thumb running on that or some fast-paced backpacking anything like that so the jacket really is designed to move with you freely and as i say it's gonna almost fit your exact body shape. Obviously you've got a really nice birthday got a great peak system on there and as i said that scheme you know once you kind of play with the pulleys on the front there it's gonna make it nice and rigid and then also you've got a nice high volume as well so as say it.
