We're gonna take a look at the 8,000 meter mit from marmot obviously it's a. Little bit overkill for a day like today but wanted to give you a close look at the features for this mitt for those folks that are seriously considering going out into some pretty rough rugged or high elevation weather so the 8,000. Meter mitt is designed for some really serious cold weather this is going to be an expedition style mitt it's gonna be something that if you're gonna do a summit of renier or honestly any thought any 8,000 meter peaks this would potentially be a myth that you would consider taking with you so the 8,000 meter mitt is a component. Mitt so you've got an inside piece of. Insulation separate mitt that's going to come out we'll take a look at that in a little bit and you do have an outer shell that's insulated as well so the outer shell here is constructed from a gore-tex pack light fabric so it's 100% waterproof and breathable it's a pretty durable rugged construction on the palm side you see you've got a solid piece of. Leather this is a real burly thick leather good construction here you do get some seaming points as well as contours around the mid here so it fits well it's gonna fairly as easily as a. Large mat like this can grasp on two poles of some sort have you got a couple. Of bonus features here it's a little bit of reflective material at the tip here as well as a clip for carbines and what that means is when you clip it to a carabiner the mitt will hang down that way ice snow drizzle whatever doesn't fall inside the mitt make sure it keeps the inside of them nice and dry when they're not in use the mid has a one-handed adjustment at the wrist here as you have a nice slide lock strap that you can easily manage that with one hand you do get a little bit of elastic in here that kind of helps secure that fit in the hand in such a large roomy mitt and on the side here. You can see marmot has a real nice design here this is the what's gonna pull in your gauntlet and you've got kind of one-handed pull out here keeps the straps on the outside of the forearm, so they are out of the way if the winds flapping and you happen to have your arm up or you're using a pole or a tool this. Piece isn't on the inside potentially flapping you in the face so it's here on the outside then this red tab here is. All you do is pull that with one hand releases the whole thing it's a nice smooth easy adjustment easy to do with. The other mitt on your hand as well inside to cure this mitt to your hand there is a. Safety leash so you can see I've got it attached to my wrist here allows the mitt to dangle you can take your hand out use it for something else without having to worry about dropping the mitt easily slide your hand back in i did. Mention earlier that this is a component mitt so you've got a separate mitt on. The inside that is completely removable it's a nice bright yellow color so you can't lose it and it is insulated with. 700 fill power goose down very compressible and very warm so it's a. Real nice design you can see you've got some reinforcements this is just a little heavier fabric here in the black and you've got a bit of a silicon print here that really helps with the grip inside of this mitt you have a single. Kind of trigger finger design where there's a piece of material between that index finger and the other three fingers so you do get the ability to kind of. Have a little bit more dexterity with this piece than you normally would were just an open mitt liner it also helps when it is inside the larger shell mitt to give you a little bit of dexterity with that index finger the outer top. Portion of the mitt does have a really lightweight layer of primaloft insulation in it so if you're using the outer shell by itself it does have a little bit of insulation quality to it now the inside of it also has I've. Turned this inside out here you can see on the back of the hand you've got a. Little bit of this like dry clime super. Lightweight very soft wicking material. And a little bit of a thicker fleece here on the where the hand is so it's real comfortable if you're wearing it by itself without the other mitt inside of it and it is definitely going to join draw moisture out of the mitt if your. Hands are warm and pass it out through that gore fabric the inside of the down. Mitt liner also has this really lightweight soft dry clime wicking material as well this would be very comfortable for cold hands and helps. Manage moisture as well if you're on the move and your hands are heating up so. The 8,000 meter mate from marmot very well-designed super warm weather. Protected insulated mitt waterproof as well it's going to be fantastic for anyone that's looking to any sort of cold weather mountaineering type expeditions. You.

Designed for high elevation or super cold activities the marmot 8,000 meter. Mitt offers a really interesting blend. Of insulation durable materials and a sturdy smart construction for a lot of cold weather. Use let's take a look at the construction some of its features this. Mitten is constructed with a really lightweight nylon shell and a durable. Reinforced petard armor tan leather palm. So you've got really durable leather materials on the palm and in the thumb portion of the mitten and a lightweight. Nylon shell it is gore-tex material so. It is waterproof breathable vortex pack light so you've got confident waterproof protection throughout the entire mitten and it is lately insulated so the mitten. Shell itself does have some synthetic insulation in there to keep you warm now. There is a removable liner on the inside. Of the glove and that is a super warm. Liner so the liner that comes inside the glove is a 700 fill power down insulated. Liner it's also got some synthetic insulation in there as well to kind of protect that down so it doesn't get wet. Really durable materials here while. Still being very lightweight with climbing and high alpine adventures in mind so it's not meant to weigh you down we do have a reinforced kind of finger. Palm material here so if you were just using the liners you do have some reinforcement in that material as well. And it's kind of interesting how it's designed the finger the index finger and thumb are split from the rest of the. Fingers so there are kind of separated sleeves inside the mitten or separating. Your digits so pretty smart design there this mitten does have an extended. Gauntlet that goes up a decent bit past. The actual wrist portion so it's going to protect over your jacket or over your down suit really convenient design in. That gauntlet you've got that gore-tex material so it's fully waterproof all the way throughout it's got a very simple cinch at the cuff of that gauntlet so to cinch it. Down you simply grab the kind of bungee cord there and pull and it'll lock it into place and when you're ready to take that off there's just a red tab there single hand one-handed use just pull it. Loosens everything up and you can take that off nice and you look easily yourself definitely a smart design feature to that gauntlet of the mitten. Another thing i failed to mention on the. Internal liner is this pull loop so you've got a really convenient and easy pull loop to get that on get it nice and secure and it makes it very easy to. Integrate the system together so pull. That on simply the liner inside the main. Mitten and you're ready to go so really. Warm really durable but still very. Lightweight like i said designed for those 8,000 meter peaks for those high elevation adventures it's the marmot 8,000 meter myth.

So we're just here to have a chat to you guys about ski gloves for different sorts of winter sport obviously with a focus on back country and kind of like a live mountaineering which is what we've been doing here for the past month or so i suppose it's important to identify. That with gloves there's just such a wide range of gloves for different sports different purposes you've got gloves that are for mountaineering for touring the back country for park and pipe for resort just yes such a sheer. Weight of different types of gloves and. That's probably why we chose to pick gloves from the black diamond range obviously they make a very high quality product in the back country industry which is suited to what we were looking for, but they just make such a huge range. Of different types of gloves which is you jump on their website you'll see it all suited and tailored to you know different kinds of winter sport so yeah. We chose the black diamond rambler glove to use out here in the mountains for the five or so weeks that we were here we'll. Talk to you about why we chose those gloves and what we were looking for in a glove and then yeah i suppose just what. Else is available in the black diamond range so what we were doing i suppose is. Just multi-day trips out into the back country where we'd be doing a little bit of mountaineering primarily skiing and touring obviously would be setting up camp pulling down camp. Digging in the snow, so we want to have a saying that you know would really protect our hands in those elements we've been doing that in the springtime where temperatures can get quite warm in the day so when we're touring we don't really need to wear gloves but then ever night the temperatures can get quite low and drop right down the snow is obviously wet at times just because the temperature rises in the day there's been a melt going on, so we want something that's gonna keep our hands dry and warm during those times as well. Because we're taking a heap of camera gear out with us we want to keep our packs as light as possible, so we were. Going for just one pair of gloves that. We could use i suppose the warm daytime temperatures meant that we didn't need gloves for them so that was really good. But we wanted gloves that were really durable so that when you know we were picking up gear like ice axes that have a sharp edge on it or digging care. It's waterproof we're after waterproof gloves obviously warmth for the night when the temperature dropped well below zero and then dexterity just because we wanted to be able to kind of like feel what we were doing with our gloves and have a high sense of touch with the. Gloves we were using so that's why we chose the black diamond rambo gloves which are really suited to the purpose that we were looking for pretty much bang on, so we'll give you a bit more. Information about the ramble gloves now their mid-weight gloves, so they come in. At 225 grams of pair so they are quiet. Solid but they're they're not super heavy, and they really protect. Against the elements well, so they've got a temperature range between negative 18 and negative 1 degrees Celsius so you're. Going to protect you against the elements but not be too heavy so when we're talking materials with the black diamond rambler glove and also other gloves in their range you can break it down into two kinds of categories you've got the outer shell of the glove and then you've kind of got the inner materials of the glove — or the linings of the glove now with the ramble and. Other gloves in the range there're two materials two key materials that form the outer shell which we'll look out first the first one is a tough goat. Leather so it's going to be really durable for the glove away especially hands where you're picking things up but. Also quite comfortable it's quite a soft plush leather the other part of the. Glove which is this darker area on top here is a stretch work stretch woven. Fabric which is just going to be very. Comfortable and increased dexterity so it's nice and flexible nice and stretchy and also quite durable to that material. So it's gonna prevent against things like ripping but it'll keep the weight down because it's not too heavy so once we've looked at the shell layer of the glove we can car look inside the glove a little bit more where we have again two more materials that are going to be used for waterproofing and insulation so. First up we've got a gore-tex insert that goes into the glove it's gonna be 100% waterproof but i will also be breathable so it means your hands aren't going to get too stuffy or sweaty there will be ventilation in the glove. The other one is primaloft gold insulation which is just the fleece enter the glove it's very warm and protects to really harsh to harsh time. Bitches so black diamond have raided the gloves to negative 18 degrees Celsius so. Yeah they're going to protect against the harshest winter conditions and keep your hands really warm inside that glove with that level of insulation that they have the gloves also have improved 3d. Patterning which you know black diamonds. Used before but i suppose as the models continue this technology continues to. Get better, and they've implemented it into the ramble glove here so it's just. Basically improve improved our dexterity. For when you're doing hands-on things like ski mountaineering or a little bit of climbing or whatever might you might be doing so the recommended use for the. Rambler glove according to black diamond and i suppose what we've been doing as well fits in with their recommendation is just regular skiing but also ski. Mountaineering and split boarding touring and expeditions so that's what. They've kind of categorized these gloves as and our experience out in the mountains with them have been fantastic. They're very comfortable glove they've. Held up well like waterproof we haven't had any issues with waterproofing they've been warm we haven't had any. Issues with needing to have an inner in the glove or anything like that this glove by itself has held up to the conditions, and they're also tough and durable so when we've been handling harsh equipment or just you know being. Rough with the gloves around pieces of ice or rock yeah they've done really well stood out to the test, and they're still going really strong after wearing them you know nearly five weeks straight so these gloves and a lot of the other ones in the black diamond range have these two little features that come in really handy when you're on the mountain so the first one is just a clip that. Joins the two gloves together we haven't found any issues with the clip it's actually been awesome because we've been able to keep the gloves on the outside of our pack we don't have to find room on the inside which means that we can you know put other gear in there if we need to, so we can just string them up on the outside of our pack by that clear the second one is that on the thumb there's a goggle wire which just means that you've got any smudges on your goggles or your glasses out in the mountains you don't have to worry about you know ruining the lenses if you're wiping them with these gloves before it's been absolutely pleasured to use these gloves around the mountains they've really fulfilled our needs and the things that we've needed in the they've met them and exceeded our expectations i suppose so like i said. Kinda at the very start of the video black diamond have a huge range of. Gloves for a huge range of purposes so i suppose each individual's going to have different needs for what they would in their glove this been perfect for us doing some back country skiing and light mountaineering but i suppose if you're.
