Is designed to be something you can wear in varied climates it has a fleece. Lining all the way down the side here. Which is excellent for breath ability and allows that moisture and heat to escape from the side when it's a little too warm the jacket also does have a cinch. On the bottom as well so you can get it really nice and tight around your waist that way the heats not escaping from the bottom this is a very lightly insulated. Jacket it has 40 grams of synthetic core. Loft insulation and that insulation is. Where you need it most in the core this sleeves actually are not insulated they're a combination of fleece as well. As the rain resistant denier fabric the. Hood of the jacket also uninsulated it. Has a drawstring here on the back for. Adjusting which i think is excellent to have an uninsulated hood it works really. Well to fold up your jacket into the hood and cinch it closes and the hood does a pretty good job of keeping out when and light weather the jacket. Actually has two large pockets on each side, and they're quite spacious however there. Is no chest pocket so they gave you just. What you need and nothing more so i just. Under 10 ounces the jacket is extremely lightweight and pack able which makes it excellent for traveling now being that this jacket is from our tech's the fit is really what sets it apart this is a slim fit jacket that works really well. Within a layering system because it allows you to layer stuff over it but also it's gonna allow you to have a couple of base layers underneath and still be comfortable I've seen people who claim that the jacket has magic powers and it can go down to 20 degrees and still be comfortable that's not true. It's an extremely versatile jacket it. Really responds well to changing climate so this is a jacket you can wear winter. Summer spring fall as a weird order so. This is a jacket you can wear all year round because of the light insulation it works really well for temperate and cool climates even when you layer this jacket. With several other layers i would say if you're gonna be in a climate that's colder than 25 degrees most likely. You're gonna need a little more insulation than this provides so I've go something a little bit heavier now I've had this jacket for just over three months now and i found to be very durable i really like the fact that you can machine wash it which makes it super easy to clean i haven't had any wear or. Visible wear yet on the jacket in the three months so i do have a couple of gripes about this jacket first one is. It's pretty expensive that's just kind of standard for our tariffs and it is comfortable to other jackets of similar. Uses like the patagonian nano air light the reason why i bought this jacket over. The nano air light is because this jackets a little bit more professional-looking i can get away with wearing it at work and it's got the full zip so it vents a little bit better another small gripe i would have liked the jacket to be about an inch longer oftentimes when I'm wearing at my shirts just a little longer than the jacket and it looks kind of strange while it is a little pricey i do use this jacket. Almost every day so it's worth it for me and i think that most people will get the same kind of use out of it this jacket is so versatile and lightweight there's no reason to leave it behind so overall i would rate this jacket 8 9 out. Of 10 it's extremely versatile so far. It's been very durable it's warmer than i expected it works extremely well. Within a layering system and it looks. Well hello there guys eugene here from reviewer gear and today i want to talk to you guys about an awesome new jacket that I've been testing using wearing. That i really like this is the marmot avant jacket it's a featherless synthetic fill jacket. That I've really enjoyed and i. Want to show you i don't see too many views of this thing on youtube for some reason so i was like hey why not do this. So a while back i shot a review of the marmot zeus jacket this is actually a. Down jacket 800 fill and I've had this jacket for a. Long time and i really enjoyed it. I've used this thing for i think a little bit over five years now it's an awesome jacket but it has two. Begun to worn through to wear through have some tape on it lose some feathers so it's time to upgrade and no hood on this one so this one is just as. Warm maybe a tad bit cooler but the fact. That it has a hood it makes it just so much better and it actually is warmer because it can warm your head up which is where a lot of heat loss happens now in terms of the fit and just the construction of the jacket it has a. Nylon shell that's very nicely water. Repellent you can actually I've walked in the rain snow it'll melt and just really beat off really nicely and roll off the jacket and the cool thing about. This is that the featherless the synthetic down inside is a down that if. It gets wet it doesn't clump down and it's still nice and warm so that's a. Really nice feature now let me just go kind of through all the features of the jacket but first I'll start with the fit since i have it on in just the way it feels it's kind of tailored to a kind of. Athletic shape so if you do have a large belly you might be able to fit in there but uh. You know it's nicely kind of trimmed to. Fit you really well and stay close to your body and it's very comfortable all. The way to here i hope you can hear me well but it's up all the way to your chin and. If you always wear the hood. There're that zips up really nicely very. Nicely shaped to your head very warm. Not too much space for when to get in there the sleeves aren't really nice and. Long and if you raised your arms up the. Waste of the jacket doesn't really right up that's the angel wing movement feature from marmot that's that's. Excellent if you're gonna use it for rock climbing or anything where you have to have your hands up you have that nice. Freedom of movement all the way around as you can see they're very. Comfortable so the features also as. You're kind of wearing this jacket we have a really nice chest pocket here and the down fill is on the outside of. This pocket and not on the inside or if you're carrying a phone you want to stay warm fits excellently in here this is the. Iphone 6s plus so pretty large fits no. Problem into that pocket i like that a lot the previous jacket did not have that by the way I'll have links to this. Jacket in the description haven't quite seen on amazon yet but i will put that in there when it is available you can get at rei or a couple other online. Stores so there's not pocket going down here we have these two hand warmer. Pockets very nice and large they go all. The way up to here down to here all the. Way to the zipper here, and they don't go beyond here they do have a nice little lip here so even if you have the pocket open there's something in there it won't fall out because you have another about three inches of space they're really nice smooth zippers that are water-resistant on the outside nice. Little plastic things there zipper pulls. And inside of these pockets you have as. You reach in there and you pull out you have these things which allow you to cinch down the waist so that's that's. Awesome and then to release that you have two little release buttons here just like that and then you can relax the waist like that so the waistband as you unzip all the. Way on the inside we don't have any pockets just some tags and some information here about cleaning. It in terms of washing it you can wash it just like you do down you know just. Make sure you read the titles in there. So those are the pockets test those are the features on the cuffs here sleeves. It's just a nice little rubber band stays nice and tight around your wrists. You can have a nice watch hidden under there no problem you know. This will fray a little bit as time goes on but nicely done really nicely done. For a mormon, and then we have a marmot logo here logo on your chest the other really cool thing about this jacket is if you have this down jacket and you want to get a rain jacket also from. Marmot let make sure they're the same size so this is the medium and i have the medium minimalist jacket i have a. Review of this on my channel a long time ago this is one of my favorite jackets of all time the marmot minimalist rain. Jacket absolutely like it I've had this. For over five years has not leaked at all gore-tex but what i want to mention. In this review though is that when you put this on if they're the same size. It's amazing this almost every time the. Hood just automatically fits into that did i make it in their i think it did no okay but there we go. Might be under no i don't know we'll see but you put that on and just live it zips. This up this down jacket fits perfectly. Inside of this rain jacket so you have. Rain protection now and the rain hood. Goes right over that's just awesome. Now it's water protected and you're nice. And warm inside so i really like that. How those products work together now the. Other thing i wanted to mention is that this seams here the baffles are. Very interestingly done there is actually no stitching to divide the fill. I'm not sure how they've done it and if you look really closely there is no stitching and there's no melting i don't. Have no idea how they have separated these baffles amazing stuff. Good technology yeah anyway it's just. Really cool i will also mention that this real on the outside here the shell is very thin and i-i don't know how easily. It will be ripped if you snag it on something sharp i think it won't be hard to rip it so you should be careful with it but it's very light it is a little. But heavier than a down jacket now when. We take this jacket off and we take one. Of these pockets and turn it inside out. You can just stuff the whole jacket into. One of these pockets so if you're trying. To pack this into a backpack for going. On a nice little trip into the mountains and you know i mean of course you could just stuff this you can just stuff this. Jacket into your backpack but the other. Option is to stuff it into its own. Pocket there's a jacket and a little hot. Dog bun so that lets you store it in. Your backpack really nicely and come nice and compact and then you can just pull it out and it expands out back to. Its original size and shape no surprise. Very nice and warm you know i can say a. Lot of good things about it I've had it for probably three or four months now i. Really like it i would buy it again no problem look for a sale re i will have a sale on ammo sometimes yeah i think around $230. And then you can get it all the way down to like 160 150 on a sale, and they have. A female version of this as well so if you ladies are interested there is a female version of this so check that out. This is jeremiah with mountain here I'm. Here to introduce you today to the mountain hardwear stretch down jacket it's a 750 fill q down jacket so that. Means your downs not gonna Maddox. Hydrophobic down coating welded seams. With the stretch material it's also got these really nice internal deep pockets I've been using it this season the bouldering in the mornings in between birds you stick your shoes in it's nice and comfortable when you put it on and you realize like how easy it is to move and articulate your shoulders that's when you really appreciate it and that it just looks good it's not too. Great in shiny knees it's a good piece. So all the seams are welded in-between. The baffles, so they're welded with a stretch material so each material it's stretches it's really stretchy so when. You Blaine feed out rope really nicely making it a really just comfortable. Piece to wear you barely notice you have it on you know i really do like these big deep pockets but snacks in their yes. Additional things in here pick banana. All your twist bars in their fit your. Gloves dry them off in there if you need to this will be coming out this fall. Hi this is craig geology with review of the mountain hardwear ghost whisperer hooded down jacket for pro like here calm i would put this jacket up against. The patagonia ultralight down hoody but. I like this jacket better for the following reasons number one it's lighter weight and number two it uses a more intelligent or a higher performance. Baffle design than the ultralight down hoody from patagonia and it's got a what. I feel is a better design around the. Neck area for a hooded jacket let's tell you a little bit about this jacket comes in 7.9 ounces or 223. Grams I'm wearing a size medium the size. Large was cut a little big for me it's filled with two point eight ounces of 850 fill power q shields a hydrophobic. Down q shield is similar to the sierra. Designs dry down they've talked about earlier it's where they take each individual plume, and they treat the. Plume with a dwr durable water repellent. To make it hydrophobic so that the balloon or the plume can withstand the. Presence of moisture and not collapse you know down works by when it's inside a baffle it's the loft or the. Springiness of those individual down plumes that create the dead air space inside these baffles i haven't played. Around a lot with the q shield so i look. Forward to testing that out a little bit more in the future and kind of validating just how well it works and. Some other things about this jacket it's using their whisper or fabric which is a seven janiero by changing your fabric it's a really lightweight fabric and. It's kind of just a really nice hand — it's very compressible the baffle design this is using about a 1.4 inch. One point three six inches sized baffle so. A good baffle it's a uniform baffle. Versus some of the other products up here that are using these variegated. Baffle designs the draw cord it's a very. Small draw cord in the waist but it does have a draw cord for the waste it's a hidden draw cord it does have two. Zippered pockets on it. And what i like about this jacket is when you zip it all the way up it. Creates a nice tight fit around the neck helps seal off that neck area, and we. Noticed that when we're looking at these jackets underneath the ar with the flir thermal imaging camera that this jacket. The hooded jacket sometimes when you zip them all the way up they still leave a bit of room around the neck and you can. See that the heat escaping through the neck on hooded jacket, so they all work. Pretty well once you put the hood up it's when you just have them fully zipped up with the hood down that we can tell a difference so i really like this and it just uses a standard kind of. Stretch binding in the cuff but it's a. Little bit loose fitting that's the only thing i might say about this jacket is the cuff could fit a little bit. Tighter so that wraps up the review of. Mountain hardwear stretch down series is their latest iteration of down jacket brand-new for fall of 2016 and it is. Quickly becoming our favorite jacket there are two different styles there's the rs which is one we have on right now there's also the regular stretch down and I'll tell you the difference between the two in a second but the most. Important part of the stretch down jacket is that it stretches obviously that's part of the name so you can see i can feel the stretch as I'm drawing my. Arms around here and that stretch comes from on the rs this in turn it fabric. Here it's got a little bit of mechanical stretch in it still remains down for the. Regular stretch down has that knit fabric on both the inside and the outside so the actual the regular stretch down will have a little bit more stretch than the rs does on the outside the rs has a 15 denier ghost light. Tiptop nylon that's mountain hardwear's proprietary fabric and it has a nice twr. On it even if the water gets inside the face fabric you have mountain hardwear's. Q shield down this case a 750 fill on. The inside and that means that it will stay dry longer it will dry more quickly. And it will stay a little bit lofty r when it does get wet all great features now you can see here these baffles have. No stitching on them they use what's called a bonded channel construction that's something that mount hardware in columbia developed so no stitch between. The baffles mean that there are no. Little holes for air to get through and four down to get out awesome little bit of technology there as far as the rest. Of the features on this jacket goes you have a nice napoleon pocket pretty deep there you have a couple of hand warmer. Pockets on either side of the jacket here and on the right side you have a reversible zipper or the pull on the inside so you can stuff the jacket into the pocket when you want to stash it away somewhere you also have a nice hood on the hooded version scuba style this is all elastic. Around here so there's no draw cord to cinch things down but see it keeps it pretty tight across my face feels pretty good nice and warm draw strings around. The hem though captive cord locks so. They won't get all dangly and in the way or snag on anything I'm about 510 and. About 230 pounds right now jacket fits. Me pretty well although this could use a. Little bit of extra length and that's just i don't have exceptionally long arms so if you're a longer arm person. Than i am you might run into a problem there the stretch down comes in a hooded. At first glance you think that these may be the same jacket both uses similar fabric the rs is slightly thicker fabric in the whisper but both are extremely thin and feel like they could rip easily. But let me tell you they're surprisingly durable after extensive use i have yet. To fiber rip and either of these jackets now each has a drawstring waist and each. Has similar down fill and provides. Similar warmth 750 down fill for the rs. And 800 for the whisper both have mountain hardwear's q shield down which is treated to be water repellent however both jackets soak throughout their two hours in a wet snowfall finally both. Have down-filled hoods which do not have draw strings, but they do stay on tight even in high winds and that's really where the similarities end the whisper has an active fit which is. Really tight to the body where the rs of the performance fit which is more room through the waist shoulders and arms for reference I'm five-eleven 185 pounds in both jackets are size medium the whisper. Is the world's lightest down hooded jacket well at least that's what the mountain hardwear website says so don't quote me on that but it is extremely light it only weighs in at 7.7 ounces. Where the rs is also very light but it's. The waistline is slightly stretchy i found that the waistline on the 36 in the thirty-fourth was very stretching and it had no belt or drawstring and if. You're going convertible adding the belt. Kind of adds unnecessary weight the whole idea is to keep your pants out of. Your pack by having pants that convert into shorts now obviously that's kind of. Nerdy but they call it a gear geek for a. Reason you know if your if when you put your pants in your pack the pack in. The pants add weight and bulk to your pack, and they also get wrecked if you. Keep your pants in your pack the whole entire summer you're carrying around something that adds bulk and weight to your pack and your pack is bigger and heavier than it should be and at the end. Of the summer when you go to get your pants they're wrecked they're full of mildew etc so the idea with convertible. Pants is that you're wearing shorts and you don't have your pants in your pack you know if you carried board shorts and kept your pants in your pack yeah board shorts are awesome but having your pants. Has a tendency to hit doorways and furniture as you walk past them because the pants are usually too baggy these pants are not baggy they're very straight legs and that prevents your iphone from hitting stuff as you walk by. Because you know like the little 4-inch iphone se it's probably the best phone to bring traveling but it's very fragile if it. Hits a doorway or a table as you walk by because it's in your cargo pocket it's. Broken more or less i mean it damages the phone and so having the hip pocket that cargo pocket close to the. Leg it prevents the phone from hitting. Stuff as you walk by which is a nice feature now i tried on the 36 furro c's. Which were more like a 40 waist 4 oc pants i tried on the 34 which were more. Like a 37 and i tried on the 30s which i. Couldn't they were too small i as well. Tried the 36 in the pro no stretch sian. Convertible pant which was like a very heavyweight a plastic form of denim it. Was like basically denim blue jeans that. Are very tougher for hunting and bushwhacking, but they were made out of plastic so that they dry quicker than cotton, and they were just too heavy. They're 15 ounces i also tried on the outdoor research convertible pants which. Were uncomfortable they don't stretch at all there are only four and a half ounces, so they're half the weight of the other guys but you lose a lot of comfort. Weight of all the other convertible pants, but they're not comfortable so if. You were to go 36 if you were to get the. Mountain hardwear 36 mesa convertible. Pants in order to make them more comfortable because they don't stretch you would save a little bit of weight but the truth is that the outdoor research fer oc pants can be bought one. Size smaller so you can wear a 32 if you. Wear a 34 the 32 is actually out. Slightly lighter than the 34 so the. Amount of weight that you shave by using the mountain hardwear convertible pants. You can actually get that by going one size smaller with the furrow sees or something similar and I've been wearing the fro c's for a day or two they're very comfortable and very happy with them they're very form fit you know yeah. They kind of fit kind of like a pair of boxers i mean they're pretty tight pants, but they're very breathable and stretchy and comfortable, and they fit perfect, so they've got plenty of pockets they've got two zippered pockets on the back which is important they've got a zippered cargo pocket they've got two pockets on the front now if you go small with these convertibles you'll notice that the two front pockets are not really easy to get your hands into they're a little form fit it's a little bit tight but definitely usable I'm. Pretty happy with this i am also really interested in the Monticello convertible pants because they come with a belt you know they're only 11 ounces and you can. Pull the belt close so you can get that if the 34 is or the thirty-six's are slightly too big you can pull on that you can cinch the belt, and they come in. Cool colors but you know it's another eighty bucks to spend and I'm pretty happy with the frosty's that I've got. They're their correct color and so i don't know why i would buy another pair of convertible pants when i should be wearing these and just learning how to use the ones that I've got you know i think that these are gonna be my go to and i should just figured that figure. Lovely misty damp day to talk to you about this new jacket the alpha direct by rob and I'm not sure everyone understands how this works i thought I'd explain it a little bit for you it's a really active piece of insulation full of synthetic fibers a lot of people don't understand the difference between primaloft and something like this that's due to be active and preen lost due to be stationary so simply. This is politic alpha direct this is. What's lining this jacket really fleecy. Warm but synthetic fibers that loft up like a normal piece of installation the. Reason this is so good it's really tough and really doesn't do't move at all. So it can stay direct against the skin and it doesn't need another liner underneath what i mean by that is most. Synthetic insulation needs to have like. A prima loft like this you have a tough critic sauter and something on the inner as well so that it doesn't migrate pretty much really warm for its weight and really light and it's still a really good piece of equipment I'm not saying one's better than the other but if you see you can pull apart quite easily so that's why it needs to be. Trapped inside these two layers and now. These two layers can't breathe as well when there's just one that's why this is. But being acted I'm coming off as for when you stop this. Is built to be a really movement piece. So when you're climbing or even walking you could even do on a really cold a person running so as you can see it's really neat it's trim doesn't feel like a big warm jacket you should be sticking on over everything when you stop which. Slimmer arms it's really good for climbing if it's really neat it's for harness so when I'm climbing i can still get my arms really easily up high like that I've got hand warmer pockets, but they're so slim i don't even notice them with the harness in the way i still pocket here as well for putting your phone or whatever your camera or something you need in their favorites. These days two thumb loops i really like those especially to get under your gloves in winter climbing get. No coal bits underneath there, and they've done something really clever with the hook i don't quite know how this works but somehow it fits underneath the helmet really neatly fits. Really nicely like so but also if you. Want to wear it on top of your helmet. Again this is not stretchy in there you. Nice and warm and cozy and your vision is brilliant, so they offer direct i think can be really useful for many people if you just walk in climbing on a cold day but like rock climbing maybe a bit drier than this the main reason i really like it is i use it as a mid layer in winter and you probably found when you're walking in if you try and wear a premium off jacket that's built has been stationary you'll overheat but if you take it off you're too cold so something like this is brilliant because it's wind proof is water-resistant so if it's a grim day walking in that's fine but because it breathes so well you're really comfortable in it and when you get to the base of your route you rack up you put your waterproof over the. Top it takes away neatly underneath there i feel ready to go also the hood rolls. Away if you don't like having multiple hoods some people as a real book bear when you use the outer hood roll it away you don't even know

It's cut it's long enough that it's a you can tuck it into your pants and you can lift up your arms a bit and it'll stay tucked it won't you know come out of your belt line it's i think i already. Said it's super quick drying ultra. Lightweight the one downside is that it like it does get stinky pretty quickly. Just because of the material that they use it's not like and i don't think it has an anti microbial or whatever aspect. To it so it do you know like oh that's. Pretty typical with a lot of synthetic materials they will get stinky quickly but not all unfortunately this is one of. The ones that does but the good news about it is that you just rinse it out. In some water and give it a little squeeze hang it to dry and stink is. Going and you know very quickly. Anyway that's proven oh yeah one more.
