The ultra superiors have been my go-to trail shoe for a few years i run in them. All year round and i hike in them in the summer they feel light on your feet, and they're responsive, but they offer just. Hey jonny moseley here for peter glenn skiing sports out on the trail here in tahoe testing out some trail runners and i love this one this is the ultra. Superior 3.5 so much cool tech in this. Little shoe alright let's start with my favorite part see the forefoot they call it foot shape actually looks like your foot allows you to spread your toes out in there and actually use your metatarsals when you're running i love that also allows you to kind of have a snug shoe without hitting the end of the. End of the shoe or having cramping in the forefront i love that other cool stuff if you're if your run in the winter and you're into and you're running in the rain you can attach your gator to the front to the side to the. Other side to the stern okay four points. Of contact, they call it the gator trap very cool the other thing i really feel when you're running in this shoe is you see the difference color different color. And the rubber on the bottom because they've got this one scored horizontally so you feel like it has a really nice. Flex pattern right where you want it to right when you hit it's right in the ball of your foot for a good takeoff and easy you know easy flex right there but. It's also got a bomber heel with a little extra sole so when you. No come and steep and you got to put the brakes on it's got a little cleat there for you so ultimately really. I check it out it's time for another shoe review and today we are reviewing the hulk up all night on a bondi six. All right some out here it's cold I'm. Wearing my jacket in my hat but i wanted to do this review outside so that's what. We're doing this is the one i don't know. If I'm pronouncing it perfectly but cocka cocka okay i don't know. Hoka all name only i know that part is. Right though because it's not one it's only on a moon eight on a i. Don't know it's a difficult name to. Pronounce but the bomb died six anyway so the bondi six is the latest bondi. Model from hoka it came out this year. Just a few months ago just a month ago or something like that and so it's fairly new the bondi is historically the. Most cushion chui in the whole car range possibly even the most cushioned shoe in the world i don't know it is very. Cushioned this is the number six and. I've been wanting to try hocus for while. Now I've done i run mostly just an ultra. O exclusively in ultra shoes and I've. Done a lot of those reviews I'll put a link to one of them here and i love ultra shoes but I've always been intrigued by hoka i guess I'm also a. Think that affect a little bit by the marketing i think they do a great job marketing, and they do a great job. The signing the shoes i mean they look. Really cool so i wanted to try them i. Also like to the idea i like the idea of maximum cushioning — you know it just it. Makes sense to me for a lot of reasons that i will probably get into in another video maximal versus may not want all that but i bought it i try them. These are actually the wide model the. The bondi wide because i have so wide. Feet and that's why the ultras are most. Of the time good for me but even them are actually quite narrow sometimes in the middle there so i went for the wide. Model and it's its just wide enough for. Me it's not perfect this all it's almost perfect so. I enjoy them first time i headed out on. The on the run with them it was just like what that felt good. Okay that was nice just having that. Cushion it was just like heading out on the forest floor on the trail even. Though i was on the pavement and you know the less cushioning i have when i head out on a payment the more i feel like it's difficult to enjoy the road. You know i mean like it's just so hard. With these though i can head out and i can actually enjoy it all the way through so i would say that this is obviously a shoe that you would use. Probably no longer road runs like your. Long run or is a volume shoe whereas if. You're doing a speed workout you're. Doing a temp around even you probably want to consider doing it with a slightly lighter shoe right a little bit less cushion to have a little bit more contact maybe with the ground a little bit more control but most of all the weight because let's talk about the weight i don't know the exact specs but. I think i weighed this one this is a 46 this is size four six and two-thirds. European size which is a pretty big shoe. I have big feet and i think it weighs something like 350. Grams which is a lot okay that is a lot. So they're pretty damn heavy and you notice as well when you're running in, and they are heavy but it's not a problem i mean you do get used to it and. It's sort of it's just like it's fine it's fine but it's not it doesn't feel like a fast shoe but it because of the cushioning and the sort of springiness of the shoe you still feel like your sort of floating along fairly nicely so i would. Say they're heavy but it's not a problem. I was actually originally wanting to try the clifton's which are slightly less cushion, but they didn't have them in the wide size so i helped iowa for valen dies and it's pretty firm i can't. Really twist it much so not very. Flexible but f very comfortable still. The upper is also very comfortable i. Don't know it's its fairly sometimes i. Can't find the right words to describe what I'm trying to explain but let's. Just say it's comfortable the upper is comfortable and feels pretty sturdy i. Like the laces i like these kinds of laces two flat ones they just feel like they're easier to tie up, and they're a. Little bit elastic which is nice as well. What i do is that i loosen the laces. Down here to make my foot more. Comfortable there at the widest point and then i tighten it up here the outer. Sole looks a pretty sturdy yeah it's it. Doesn't look like it's gonna break down too quickly but then again about we only. Run about oh i don't know 50 kilometers. Or something in them so far so it's difficult to say the fit was quite nice. In terms of like how to fit it around my ankle and stuff it felt comfortable. I wasn't slipping out and in and out of the shoe or anything i its firm i have one big issue with it though i do have. One big issue my big toe keeps bumping. Into the upper around here and it feels. Really as though it's made for people. With hallux vagus is that what it's. Called i think where the big toe is sort. Of going inward like that you know. That's a problem with a lot of shoes they sort of force your toes together and that's what i love about ultra the ultra branded it they have wide toe box allows your close display so most shoes. They force your toe in like that and the same is true for this they will force your toe a little bit in and i don't think it's a healthy. By mechanical thing and also when your. Toe is forced in like that you're missing out on having that big toe. Stabilized and and when you're. Towing off you should really get some of your power going through the big toe but. If it's forced in like that your sort of missing out on that so i think that's a big problem that a hoca should. Definitely attend to creating a little bit of a larger toe box especially around the big toe the other toes were. Fine though i can't remember exactly how many millimeters of drop i think there're five millimeters of drop. And the cushioning is something like thirty millimeters i can't remember exactly but there's a link in the description to the shoe it's actually an affiliate link it will take you to amazon where you can buy these shoes if you want them and if you. Used to running with a drop I've run in all structures as I've mentioned a few times now, and they have zero drop meaning it's a completely flat shoe from heel to toe i prefer that but i wanted. To try how it feels with a little bit of heel to toe drop anyway so these have a. Five millimeter drop as i said i think and that i can feel it i can definitely. Feel it was kind of strange it makes. Me run slightly differently and i know i don't know if that's a good or bad thing yet i haven't filmed myself and studied. How my running style is altered but. That's something i will do so i think this particular color isn't almost awesome one i would prefer the blue on the typical hoka you know. Light blue type color but this was all they had in the white model so that's what i had to do anyway that's it super. Awesome shoe I'm enjoying the cushioning I'm experimenting with different types of shoes and this is a very interesting one i dig the brand check out the. De flex ar por lo tanto también vamos a. Poder correr más largo y más fácil. Durante más tiempo Si queremos meter estas topo terra venture en terrenos grasos o incluso en terrenos de piedra descompuesta como. Alguna cartera por ejemplo nos puede ir. Hey guys what's going on today I'm going. To be reviewing the topo athletic ultra. Ventures this shoe is pretty fantastic. If i had one way of describing this shoe. I would have to say that it is the love. Child of a an ultra and a hoca it does. Come in at ten point four ounces so it. Might be slightly on the heavier side even though ten point four ounces is. Pretty stinking light there is a five. Millimeter heel to toe drop so you're starting off at thirty in the back twenty-five in the front and that's where i would say it's kind of emulate soar resembles a hookah but it does have. That traditional foot shaped or wider. Then normal toe box and tomiko toe box keeping that great toe and alignment. Letting that kind of be your anchor point for your foot and letting the other toes splay out in here this shoe i. Really can't speak too much on anything. Bad about this shoe i haven't had a bad. Experience and it this particular pair has 310 miles on it and then i have a. Brand new pair over here which I'd be. Hard-pressed at any point in time of my life to buy another pair of the exact. Some shoe and the exact same color so. Anyway that should tell you something this shoe has gotten me through a lot of. Long runs i kind of got the shoe to try. Out for a training cycle for double. Dalek ultras unfortunately i got really cold in the race and so anyway i made it. 100k out of 100 miles but it had nothing to. Do with the shoe it's very money on the trails that day very cold very wet the shoe outperform. Itself it comes with a v boom as you can. See with bieber marketing they're gonna tell you that it's a v room again with a v berm outsole this is the xs trek not. The magna grip or maggot grip that comes. On the speed goats the hoko speed goats but be advised that the maggot grip is going to be coming out on the a new pair. Of toe bones anyway the waterproof toe pose that are gonna be coming out next year or 2019. Look for the hydro ventures anyway look. For those coming up these have a new. Improved upper there's a couple different overlays let me show you on the cleaner pair a couple different overlays on here they're actually more. Than one piece the toe bumper is separate from this overlay giving you a little bit more protection the upper is. Actually a new printed mesh or new type. Of mesh anyway so you're getting a little bit tighter mesh up here in the front keeping out some of the debris and. Then a little more open mesh more tour. Of the metatarsals give me a little bit more airflow and breath ability maybe a. Little more drainage new feature also and a bunch of the new trousers it's gonna be these gills alright they're. Basically drainage ports so whenever you. Get water in your shoe every step from that point I'm gonna act kind of like you're forcing the water. Our kind of pumping the water out of your shoe with your own steps i have. Noticed i have gotten these shoes very wet have noticed that they do drain. Really well and also the new upper as. Well as this has given the shoe a more. Comfortable temperature anyway some. People have complained about taupe was being very warm this shoe especially. With the new porthole insole I'm. Getting a little worth of light marketing in there with the new. Porthole insole has actually become a lot more. Comfortable temperature-wise i did get the shoe right when the weather was changing so it was still kind of warm and it's felt fine through coming up. Here now in the 30s all right not too. Cold here in virginia anyway there is a. Gator attachment in the back so it's kind of weird looking topo brandied. Gator attachment here got hook little. Places for the hooks and I'll show you. With the gators on these so I've got. These hooks that kind of walk in there and then the gator like a normal gator. Pulls over and it attaches too wherever. You need in the front it's a lot easier than this when you have one anyway so there you go. With the gator attachment and that is a. Topo branded gator attachment these would work with any other type of gators you would just have to do your traditional velcro and i actually did so. In velcro on these so i could use them on the magnifies are the magnet flies. Twos anyway alright. The tongue is fully gusseted I'll show you on the other pair that son just. Fully gusseted meaning it is sewn in and. So that prevents a lot of the sliding around of the tongue and bunching and. Creating hot spots and i really haven't noticed any hot spots in this shoe the. Upper is three pieces sorry i think already said that but anyway the eba. Upper or sole is three pieces you've got. Kind of little bit firmer sole here or. Aba here a little bit softer in the back and even though this would traditionally. Mean that this is a stability shoe or a guidance shoe this piece is still just. Maybe a hair firmer than up here and i. Have a neutral foot and this i haven't felt like there's any guidance or anything like that this shoe again is called the ultra venture meaning it's out it's going to. Be marketed towards someone who's going. To be out there maybe more on an ultra run or ultra marathon and when they're. Fatigued their foot kind of hits the. Ground a little bit differently so it's kind of it might give you a little bit of guidance but not enough to where it's gonna throw off your gait i have like i. Said 310 miles in this pair of shoe and so normal wear and tear i did really. Really try to destroy this pair I've got. A little wear back here I've got a. Little wear right here where there's a. Couple like a couple holes for me but this is about the time when I'd be retiring a pair of shoes anyway and for a trail pair that i literally beat the heck out of it's surpassed a lot of my. Expectations i don't normally run in a five. Millimeter drop i don't know why i just didn't say this earlier but this she. Doesn't really feel like a five millimeter drop it's taken a lot of stress off my Achilles because it is a. Five millimeter but at the same time there's enough cushioning in it to where it almost feels zero ish drop I'm not. Gonna say it does because i don't want to give you the impression that it is a. Zero drop or it would crush down to being a zero drop like the heel would be that soft but it does kind of. Feel like it hooks on to your foot a little bit better than a lot of other shoes out there is enough cushion here in the back to give you a nice heel. Cup and kind of lock your heel down in there now i would give it you know a. Couple strides out there to let it adjust before you tighten it down anymore if you did feel a little heel slipping one other thing i really wanted. To point out there is no rock plate in here and there are a couple cutouts to give it a little bit more flexibility but if you do step on something that. Sharp there's enough cushion in here that's gonna give you that protection and you might feel it but it's not gonna hurt you're too much to the point where you get like a stone bruise i have stepped on very sharp things and how it. Had any issues and then one thing that i really enjoyed about this shoe was with this aggressive outsole i stepped on a. Couple routes this way and had i not had. This type of little slightly you know. More aggressive outsole that they've been putting on the new trail line for. Toboe anyway i might have slipped off. That but that route but i actually kind of caught it and so i was able to prevent some foot rolling because of that it did take me a little bit of time to get used to if you're not traditionally used to running in a more. Aggressive outsole because there's just slightly more clearance underfoot so. You're getting the 25 and 30 but then. You have an additional maybe 5 millimeters here and i have run on this. On-road a few times i haven't felt the grip so i feel like. That there's enough cushion in there to that you do run over pebbles or whatnot you're really not gonna feel those so that's that should be a good sign anyway and try not to be too long-winded on this but this is a great shoe i highly suggest it guys got any questions pop them down in their bottom you want. A hikers and runners i wanted to share. My experience with my topo terra venture. Trail runners i guess they are I'm not really a trail runner I'm more of a hiker but i had a problem with finding. Shoes that had a wide enough toe box for. My wide foot and i tried on all the. Major brands at rei and this is the one. That i found that fit me the best for a wide foot i was a former brookes. Cascadia wearer but the last i don't. No 4 or 5 models of brookes I've been. Unable to wear because the toe box is too narrow so these are a little cut. Shoe they allow your ankle to flex naturally they're lightweight they weigh. About 10 ounces they're ventilated they. Have a nice full mesh upper with some. Reinforcing that's printed on there versus laminated so not a lot to come. Apart here's a little demonstration of. The grip of these terra ventures. They have a minimal heel to toe drop i. Believe it's three millimeters so it feels it's got a natural feel to it. They've been around for about only a. Year or two toni post was the founder of. These he also worked with vibram so he. Knows a lot about the soul has an aggressive lug to it lug pattern they. Have a foot plate yet they're still soft. Enough where you can feel the trail and you get a good round feel there are. Pretty good value these are i got them on sale at rei I've got used my 20% off. But i think they're 100 or a hundred ten bucks full price so pretty good value comparable to the ultra lone peak so. They really do have good traction they're lightweight I've got them paired. With my dirty girl gaiters. You. I've had him up the mountain behind me which is golden gate mountain here in the desert in tucson that's about a 1700. Foot elevation getting to thinking they. Shirt so I've actually had this jacket for a little while now but i wanted to give it a good test out in the field and. Really make sure that the information i was giving you and my reviews and opinions were based on actual field experience and not just my initial thoughts of it after opening it from the. Package that i ever seemed it in so as. You see here it is quite a small package on just only a couple inches tall by need four or five inches long here this. Is actually stuffed into its own chest pocket so this is the extent of the. Pocket you see here to that there's a. Little tab if you wanted to attach it to a pack with a carabiner by some other. Method so it is pretty compact nice. Little package here i know that a few other wind shirts the pocket is larger. So when you stuff it into it doesn't come back down into such a small space. And it's kind of freely moving around i. Will say that it is a little bit of a wrestling match to try to get it in here. And it is a little bit tricky to close. It up i have found though that if you. Unzip the zipper first it makes it. Slightly easier to get it in but it is. Still, a little bit rough to squeeze it. In here so before we get started I'll go. Ahead and weigh it so you have a feel. For what we're looking at so according. To my scale here i have a man's size. Small and it weighs three point four. Nine ounces so it is a pretty lightweight option it is a very thin. Material it's by no means the lightest. Wind shirt that there is out there and but it's also not the heaviest there are. Quite a few that are heavier than this but i would say that it does kind of fall into the mid-range as far as weight goes, so we'll go ahead and take a look at it so open it up. Like i said this is the chest pocket. And that is the one and only pocket so. That might be a drawback for you if you're looking for some storage space this jacket definitely does not have it. It is very minimalistic has very few. Features which is partly why i like it. It's very simple so here as you see it. Is a full length zipper which is nice. You don't have to pull it on over your head but it is a full length zipper just. Kind of interesting to that it's not light even with the full length zipper so on a couple different features that i. Want to talk about here first of all start with on the cuff so if you take a. Look at the cuff the top is just a normal stitch but underneath about half. Of the wrist is elastic so I'd know if. They did that to cut down on weight or whatever but it's kind of nice because the top will stay flat to your wrist and. So if there is any water or anything that rolls off or beans off it's not dealing with you know this wrinkled. Material but it does stay pretty flat to. Your wrist and then also if you're needing to pull. Up your sleeves at all that elastic on the bottom really keeps a snug fit and. Again on that top part is very flat. Against your arm so any moisture can run. Off if you needed to pull up your sleeve like that and it does a nice job it stays pretty secure pretty snug so. That's one feature that's kind of nice. Having that available so taking a look at the jacket here like i said it is a full length zipper this is a man's size. Small like i said so if you take a look. It does zip up pretty high that's. Actually a feature that i really like it really keeps you warm and it really does. What its name says it is a wind shirt and it does job of keeping out the wind and keeping. You really warm so that added height to. The zipper really encloses everything so. That's pretty nice and again like i said the chest pocket is really only about this big right here so that's not very. Substantial again there are not any side. Pockets here but that's something you. May want to think about so the really. The selling point that pushed me in the. Direction of this jacket was the fit of. The hood and it's cinch capabilities so. There are other jackets out there that have these you know hoods that are. Able to cinch down but i did quite a bit of research before and i went to. Different stores try them all on went online looked at different reviews. Watched youtube videos and it all came. Down to really me liking the features of. This jacket the best I'll go ahead and. Show you the hood it is a pretty snug. Fit to begin with which is pretty nice even with it not zipped up all the way. You know it conforms to your head and. Stays on it's a really nice fit and when. You zip this up all the way really the only thing exposed is just your face. Right here so in those conditions where it is windy or even if you get caught in a light rain and that's something that is really nice to have also there is in. The back here if you can see it there's. A little pull tab that you're able to cinch you down the hood even further so. If you cinch that down really it's basically cinches right here. All the way back and so it's really just. Kind of brings it all in right on your. Head and really conforms to your head and that's part of the reason i like this too is that there are other jackets out there where the hood is not very movable meaning that when you move your head that kind of stays in the forward direction in your head moves sideways but this does a really nice job. Of keeping with your head so if you're. Really active running or doing anything. Like that this does a really nice job of keeping. Up with that so primarily i use this. Jacket up in the mountains and I'm hiking and when i go out on lakes flag. Fishing up in the mountains even if it's. A sunny day and it's pretty warm the wind can get pretty chilly and so this is something nice to have to take out on. The water with me also just to provide that extra layer of protection it. Actually is a really good layer of sun. Protection also sometimes even if it's. Warm while i was throw this on to have that action that extra layer just because it is so thin in fact you can. Probably see through the material here. It is very thin you can see my hand behind it but um it is very lightweight. Which is a good thing it lives up to its. Name of a wind shirt and if you throw on. Another layer under this shirt it really does an extra nice job of insulating you. From the elements i have worn this in a. Light rain and it did a really nice job the water beated up rolled right off i. Had no problem i wasn't wet or clammy underneath it all but i definitely would. Not recommend substituting this jacket. For a real rain jacket if you were to. Come upon any real rain conditions but. If you know you get caught in between some weather unexpected weather this is. Definitely a good item to have with you even if you're just going on a day hike or not really expecting any sort of weather this is a great option to have so i definitely recommend the patagonia. Houdini if you're looking into a lightweight wind shirt and it doesn't have a lot of features as far as storage goes but what kind of pushed me. In the direction of this jacket was its. Capability here with the hood and the. Of the hood so something else to that. I'll do is I'll I'll wear a hat and then put the hood over it and that cinching capability really helps to snug it all. In on your head I'm also same kind of idea of the wrist. Being flat on the front and then it's cinching in the back or having the. Elastic on the back half on the front of. Your jacket here so the front there's not any elastic here at all but there is. A shock cord here that runs from. Basically here all the way around the back to this side so it cinches in the. One is durability although the outer material manages to avoid snagging on anything it is starting to fill in some of the higher wear areas like the shoulders and waist you know areas that my backpack will rub against for the last eight months is good my go-to jacket for fall and winter backpacking trips and as a casual jacket in town i feel as though i've put the jacket through more and this time than the average person would also the jacket. Is pilling inside the hand pockets sometimes my fingers get a little dry around the fingernails and this catches on the soft fabric which is the same material as the inside lining number two. Is breathability breathability is a double-edged sword it's great when you're sweaty but when it's very windy the breathability of this jacket may be undesirable in that scenario you'll want to throw a windbreaker over this jacket i found that the nanowire jacket performs at its best in cold temperatures with low to moderate winds it's hard to define an. Exact temperature range for this jacket but for me the nano air by itself was. Comfortable for about 40 fahrenheit down to 15 fahrenheit which is 5 celsius down to minus 10 celsius and this was during periods of moderate exertion based on this review.
