That's what it basically looks like this. Shirt is eighty-six percent polyester it's fourteen percent you last so. It's very stretchy it's very comfortable. It's soft supple shirt weighs nine. Ounces 255 grams it's very quick drying. Very pack able i acted up and unpacked it. Several times while i was out testing it i washed a thing in the creek wrung it. Out by hand put it back on in about 20. Minutes it was completely dry there's. Several features that the shirt has and one of the ones that i like the best is. The caller it's made so that you can flip the collar up and I'll show you. Can flip the caller up like this and then it has an additional caller. Extension. So if you want to protect the back of your neck from getting sunburned you can flip the collar up and you can wear it that way that comes in very handy at. Times especially when you're so unlike me you have short hair the shirt as well. Has venting panels underneath the arm. Right here that run all the way up to about the elbow all the way through the. Underarm and all the way down the side to right here and it's just kind of. Little panel with a bunch of little holes if you can see there's one. On either side right there now some. Oh gee i don't know a bunch of things you could put in their map maybe if you folded it up pretty good would go in there and the zipper works really good and smooth okay they've sewn it on in a. Was that it doesn't have a bunch of. Saggy material around it that can get caught up in the zipper okay nobody. Likes that now on the inside in the same. Place if i unbutton the shirt right here. There is another pocket it's just a top-loading pocket right here that you. Can put stuff in again snacks oh i don't. No pair of glasses i don't know what. Ipod anything like that you want to. Carry. The buttons are easy to work the. Buttonholes fit the buttons really well they're nice and tight and the buttons actually are flexible i don't know if you can see that or not but these buttons been there they got a lot of flex to them they're not hard and brutal. Now i really would have rather had one. Pocket on this side and one pocket on. This side on the inside is fine but i. Really wouldn't want both pockets on the same side but that's the way they made the shirt so i guess I'll have to live with that also would have rather had. Lapel buttons right here because i think. That the caller just looks a little bit sloppy like that it's not bad I'm just. One of those people i kind of like lapel. Buttons or maybe even a little velcro tab right there to hold those and that's something that i might add in the future we'll just have to see and the other. Feature on this or the sleeves you've. You can open those for venting if you need to, but they do provide a little bit of comfort for your hands as well a little warm too for what they are and how light this jacket is you've also got. A chest pocket and that chest pocket is pretty sizable for some items there and it also doubles as a stow pocket so you. Can actually reverse the jacket on itself stuff it into that chest pocket. Could see that being great for is just simply climbing because you're going to be rubbing that portion of the jacket it's inevitable but lacking that. Stitching there's less of a chance that you'll blow out those seams and kind of ruin the jacket in that area so just a smart little aesthetic tweak to. Adam here forget out their magazine today i am bringing you a comparative review of two down-filled jackets by mountain hardwear Over here we have the ghost whisperer down hooded jacket and on this side we have the stretch down rs hooded jacket let's break down what it's similar first. At first glance you think that these may be the same jacket both uses similar fabric the rs is slightly thicker fabric in the whisper but both are extremely thin and feel like they could rip easily. But let me tell you they're surprisingly durable after extensive use i have yet. To fiber rip and either of these jackets now each has a drawstring waist and each. Has similar down fill and provides. Similar warmth 750 down fill for the rs. And 800 for the whisper both have mountain hardwear's q shield down which is treated to be water repellent however both jackets soak throughout their two hours in a wet snowfall finally both. Have down-filled hoods which do not have draw strings, but they do stay on tight even in high winds and that's really where the similarities end the whisper has an active fit which is. Really tight to the body where the rs of the performance fit which is more room through the waist shoulders and arms for reference I'm five-eleven 185 pounds in both jackets are size medium the whisper. Is the world's lightest down hooded jacket well at least that's what the mountain hardwear website says so don't quote me on that but it is extremely light it only weighs in at 7.7 ounces. Both very different drs has a traditional small outer elastic while the whisper has a unique design with the down fill all the way to the end of the sleeve and it has a hidden elastic inside the cuff to keep it in place surprisingly i found this was much better to keep the cuff in place during activity than the rs cuff a neat feature of the ghost whisperer is its ability to be stored away in its own pocket it folds up to the size of a large water bottle which makes it super convenient on days when the temperature or your activity level maven the rs is a version of mountain hardwear's new stretch down line and to. Be honest i didn't find there to be much stretch in this fabric however i did find it to be pretty comfortable at the end of the day i found the stretch down rs jacket to be great for leisure activities like walking the dog and hiking as well as general wear around town i also have had many compliments on. The style of this jacket on the other hand the ghost whisperer jacket has not had any compliments for the look and that may be due to the color but it is a way better choice for someone who's looking for a down-filled jacket to be active in i have found this also to be. Hey guys today i want to do a review of the down jacket i used on my appalachian shelter hike and i use the art eric cerium lt hoody really great backpacking. Down jacket i think this is its main purpose is for backpacking comes in at nine point seven ounces uses about three. A little over 3 ounces of 850 850 fill. Power down which is really nice high quality down and one thing i really like about this jacket and it kind of sets it apart from other jackets in this class is arc'teryx uses core loft 80 synthetic. Insulation in certain places that are kind of known to gather moisture. Normally so like right here this is the. Mouthpiece so you can see the square right here that's core loft insulation so when you have it zipped up your breath just from. The moisture in your breath that can naturally get wet and Karloff does a much better job at staying warm when it's wet than down, so they put core loft right there they also put it on the. Shoulders here which is really good because when you're wearing a backpack strap that can stay warm right. There because it's its keeping it tight against your body also and under arms. Here they use core laughs so this is. Triangle piece right here that's coral oft insulation also notice that the underarm is gusseted which makes it really nice gives you better articulation and there's more range of. Movement so you're not getting bunched up and just makes it more comfortable to wear for a long period of time and the. Last place they put it is right here on the wrist of the jacket so you know all. This right here is core loft and then the rest of it is down super nice i think that's a really good idea and it just makes the jacket kind of you know. The next level kind of jacket that and. Kind of company that arc'teryx is they put out really high quality stuff as far. As fitment of the jacket is also standard arc'teryx nice slim fitting I'm. 6 foot tall and weigh about 150 pounds and the size medium fits me perfectly. It's long in the arms so i can actually it doesn't it doesn't stop short which. Is really nice also on the wrists they have a nice little elastic cuff. Kind of keep it helps keep it tighter around your wrist to help them drafts coming in but really slim fitting but it's you know it's a down jacket so. There's gonna be a little bit poufier but it's slim fitting so you don't feel. Like you're wearing like this gigantic down jacket really great some things i. Would i would use this jacket for are mainly backpacking because of its light. Weight and its warmth to weight ratio is outstanding but also it's a really good. Jacket for around the town just everyday stuff and like in the spring and in the. Fall on chilly days chilly nights this. Is a really good jacket for that because it's a lightweight down jacket it's really not meant for like cold weather like really cold weather winter stuff that's not what it's made for so because. This is primarily a backpacking jacket it does come with a really nice stuff sack unfortunately i can't show you that because i lost it, and they have. Hopefully i can find it i know it's here somewhere i just can't find it right now, but they actually have on the inside of their pockets or one of them anyways. They have a way they have a loop in here that's the drawstring from the. Stuff sack will actually tie into that way you don't lose it like i did so if. You do get this jacket just leave that on and that way you can just kind of. Stuff it rights into it and just make sure you always put it back in the pockets hopefully i can find that again because it stuffs down to a really nice size it's only like this big which is. Super nice so one thing about this. Jacket though is because it's a lightweight down jacket and if you go. From pretty much anything like you're. Talking backpacking stuff anything robust is gonna be heavy so if you're. Trying to save weight usually that involves a shaving weight involves going. To thinner materials lighter stuff is. Always less strong than more robust. Stuff so it's just something to be aware of so i brought out another down jacket. I have which is my fjällräven down jacket and this is definitely a much. More robust jacket also notice the size difference like how i was talking about it's probably this jacket isn't really a good standalone piece for the winter it's mo we made for you know backpacking and. Like chilly nights whereas notice the. Size difference this is uh i use this as. Like a winter jacket you know much thicker much heavier but it's also more. Robust so i just want to show you the difference real quick. And i think a good representation of this is the zippers see if you can. Hopefully the camera can get this just the difference in size of the zippers and how much more robust that the fee aravind one is much thicker much heavier. Duty and even the actual zipper itself the teeth on the zipper are a. Lot thicker and there's its much. Smaller on the arc'teryx jacket which is a good thing if you're looking to save weight that's definitely a good thing this is gonna be a much lighter jacket was just something to be aware of that when you're zipping it you know it's probably not something that can take as much of abuse as the something. Bigger I'm not saying it's gonna fall. Apart immediately or anything i mean i went my whole thru-hike with this thing except for the on the summer months and it lasted great I'd never had any problems with it and that's why I'm doing a review on it cuz it's something i love never had a problem with it but if you are really hard on gear or you're. Looking for something that you know is. Gonna get beat up probably might not be. The best option but also at the same time i don't know arc'teryx makes really high quality stuff and I'm sure it'll I'm sure it'll last so a couple other features about the jacket are on the hood it's an adjustable hood so you can cinch it down around your head try and keep that warmth in and keep the draft out it's pretty important and on the sides it has two hand pockets nice big. Pockets big enough to get your whole hand in there and keep them warm as well as store some stuff in their obviously pretty standard stuff um so i mean a. Downside to the jacket is that because. It's down you have to keep it dry that's really important when i was on the 80 i used a pack cover and a pack. Liner just to make sure i was keeping all the water out but it's just something to be aware of if you're not a huge fan of down they do make very similar jackets i believe they're called the adams like the adam lt which is made. Of 100% coral oft so it will be a little bit heavier and but. I mean the positive to that is it'll stay warmer when wet but if you're. Looking for like absolute lightweight you really can't beat the warmth to weight ratio it down so something to be. Aware of this jackets coming in at about. 350 bucks 360 bucks something like that. So what is on the higher side but you. No i kind of believe that you do get what you pay for and arc'teryx makes really high quality stuff so you know. Can show people of thumb loops at it see look they work thumb loops the sleeves on these are actually longer than the r-1 hoody so you can actually wear them i like the thumb loop designed better for me the r-1 hoody the thumb loop is too far down the cuff this seems just. What we're going to do is a very quick demonstration on the eclipse hooded tee from matt and equipment this. Is one of my favorite base layers for. Many reasons i think probably because not only does it do its job and do. Extremely well i wick away moisture yeah. It's also got other advantages as well. But why a base layers say over a t-shirt. Which is what a lot of people out their work where most people in the military. Would have been in situations where they've been working out, or they've been either on operations or exercise where. Their t-shirts become drenched in sweat. Not really a problem until the end of the day when you start to cool down and your t-shirt doesn't dry out that's the. Reason why base layers work well because. At the end of the day they wick away moisture leaving you dry and comfortable. This particular garment the eclipse. Hooded tee from mountain equipment a brand is synonymous with quality okay as. Many features first of all it's got flat. Looking seams that means that the garment itself is not going to rub you up against the wrong way it's made of a techno stretch fleece. From a company called bob bergdahl i. Have to say pompadour dawg because it's italian if when i said once he talked to her it wouldn't sound quite right and it. Weighs in at 290 grams so it's very light as i said it's got flat lock seams. Other features about the garment is it. Zipped it's got a ykk zip which is deep. Centered so if i just pull this out you. Can actually take the zip take this zip. Which runs up the side of your face and doesn't actually run up your throat actually runs up and to the side of the chin which is brilliant it's not going to basically getting away and be irritating you can actually take this zip and you can undo it all the way down. To your midriff this is something that you don't get from a t-shirt and you don't get from a lot of the base layers they're out on the market at the moment if you want to do it the opposite you can basically flip up the hood which is got and you can only take the zip up. Round underneath your chin and over your. Nose the thing i like about this. Particular garment is that it keeps your extremities warm so if you're out in norway or in the middle of winter you can it basically bring the chin guard up. Bring down the hood and now you're. Covering up your extremities the tip to your ears and your nose the hood itself. Is unobtrusive it doesn't get in the way. And it can even be top to work so you. Can see from that it's an unobtrusive hood but should you be non. Tackle semi tactical it's there it's an. Option for you to use also got thumb. Loops on the ends of your sleeves the. Reason why i like thumb loops is that when you're putting on your gloves you can actually slide your gloves on and you and your sleeve doesn't disappear at. Your wrist house it keeps things comfortable it could also bring the. Ends of the sleeves down over your knuckles so basically they're almost starting to act as hand warmers the. Other thing about the garment and it's all about attention to detail is you will notice that the garment is cut very. Long a lot of you would have been used to basically having t-shirts and other base layers ruching up behind them with it being carrying bergen's this one won't do that because it's going on as well. Note that it seemed free around the waist area so when you're putting the buckles of your waist belt on it's not. Going to be rubbing you up the wrong way. Finally, it's got blue it's blue sign. Approved what does this mean well in a. Nutshell it ain't gonna smell when it's. Sweaty so that in itself is worth. Hi everyone today I'm taking a look at. The battle equipment eclipse hooded zip-t so lightweight fleece mid layer. Stroke base layer i tend to use it as a. Lightweight mid layer rather a base layer basically because the fit isn't really skin tight so i can fit a. Close-fitting base layer underneath and use this as a lighter weight mid layer. Maybe underneath a thicker mid layer or. If it's not that could then just as a. Standalone mid layer it's made from. Ponte auto tech no stretch fleece which is a lightweight gridded fleece material. So on the inside the fleecy sections are. Cut into a grid pattern i really like. Gridded pieces the increased surface. Area of the grid helps trap more heat so. You get a better warmth to weight ratio before the fleece also helps with. Readability against surface area it's. More surface area to transport the moisture away from you away from your body and wicks well it is not wind. Resistant at all is there's a one downside compared to maybe a traditional fleece or a slightly hard face to face. The grids obviously leave big gaps. Which the wind just comes right through so bad to use underneath something if. It's windy there are two weights of fleece used in this top the gray. Sections under the arms down the sides. Around the bottom hem all the way around. And the back of the neck. And around the mouth piece are all a. Lighter weight than the red sections which is everywhere else so you've got a zoned sort of climate control where you. Really do expect to be a bit more sweaty and the arms fall where you want slightly lower profile around the lower hem or around the wrists you've got a. Thinner lighter fleece the sleeves on. This is long very long as you can see i. Have really long arms i normally find. Sleeves too short these are really nice and long the integrated thumb loops work. Well they're really comfortable there's plenty of length that you're not putting. On any part of the sleeve to put them on. But if you don't want to use them then it sits very nicely and you can move really easily very stretchy material as. Well you have one zipped chest pocket. Quite small enough space for a mobile phone a couple of snack bars or something and a deep zip past it. Preventing and just make it be easier to. Get on and off the real masterpiece of. This top is the hood which is pretty. Unique in that it's a really close-fitting hood so will fit really nicely. Under a helmet or under a hat or anything give some light warmth as well. And you also have a balaclava style. Front piece which is you zip the main. Zip all the way up you'll see it tapers off to an angle so that it's not in line. With your mouth it's out of the way and if you get that all the way up to the. Top you can get a balaclava complete bal. Collar style like that and you can if. You tuck the sides of the hood in it gives a really close fit so that it's barely any of your face showing well you. Can drop it down and really easy to move. Due to the way it's constructed the. Mouthpiece is stitched slightly back. From the end of the hood so it's almost hinged by there so if it was connected. To the front of the hood you wouldn't be able to do this you'd have to unzip it, so they've done been really clever and how they've designed that so that really. Easy to use and you can also drop the. Hood back easily without unzipping it. Have the mouth up hood down really no. Problems using that really easy to use innovative i really like it you have a. Small beard guard or chin guard at the top of the zip as well obviously for more comfort the material on the. Balaclava part is really easy to speak. Through and breathe through because it is the thinner gray material although. It's not not really wind resistant at. All like i said before so you know. They'll give you some warmth and maybe. Cut a tiny bit of wind out but if it's a. Really biting windy you're gonna want something a bit more substantial around. Your face to keep the window it's cut. Quite long which you can't see but it comes down well past my hips which is. Nice that you don't have it riding up at all when you move and it's really low. Profile so it's not obtrusive underneath. Trousers or anything i really like this top it's versatile it uses some really. Great fabrics fits really well comfy. Uses some really great innovative features especially around the hood if. Then this green one now this one's mine. Of course the black ones means guns knives and watches and i really like the green but. When i purchased these these things list. For $300 apiece for the non hooded and. Three hundred and fifty dollars a piece for the hood hood in my real-world. Estimation unless you're going for a. Fashion statement that you're just going to wear to school or something or da-da-da-da-da or to non there's no need. In paying $350 you can buy these things. On closeout all the time from a hundred and thirty dollars for the non hooded. And about 140 to 150 dollars so i would. Go in somewhere in that price range a hundred and thirty to a hundred and fifty dollars apiece now you may not get. The the color you want you may not get. The size that you want but that's just. The way it is i'll give you an example of that you know i i didn't my first. Inclination was not to purchase this and bright green jacket even though i really. Do like it now i would have much rather. Had something that's a little more subdued like this one but for the price. I think i got this for a hundred and thirty dollars it's really great of. Course these are down lightweight insulated layers can be exterior layers the one thing about this down is is treated with something that they're marketing as cue. Shield right there and what that does is. That gives the down the ability to get. Wet and everything's better when it's. Wet maybe it really is things don't get. Interesting till it starts raining you're not training less it's raining that's just the way it works. So these hold some of their ability to. Have warmth even when wet when. Traditional that untreated down isn't and that's really the basis of my. Judging the honest to god value of these these items because there is a lot of. Sewing into in it each stitch there's. Not a lot of treated down in it and if you can notice through this orange. Because it's more of a translucent. Orange you can see some of the darker. Feathers possibly on camera showing. Through now let me see if i can make. That work probably not anyway it doesn't matter but like i said missus guns. Knives and watch it's got a small in this where she would normally wear an extra small it's a little long in the sleeves but for the price you couldn't couldn't beat it and then of course i got this more whatever type of green. That it is but if i was gonna buy one my. Recommendation is that you go with the hood because there's such a small. Difference between the cost of the two and people hike use these to hike the appalachian trail they use them out on hiking and they use them all kinds of different things and i carry believe it. Or not i carry a backpack all the time when i wear mine and there's no real. Wear marks now this is a micro rip stop. And i can't really show you that on. Camera because it seems is or maybe i. Can there's a micro rip stop pattern. Man i don't know that's showing everyone. And it's a very very high thread-count. Fabric which gives it the ability number. One your feathers aren't going to poke through which in a lesser thread count of course they would and also you get. Basically a strength factor similar to. Silk okay where you don't have you don't. Have the big thread like you're doing like kevlar or like no matte nomex or. Any of that other kind of crap no max it. For fire rating but spec tara whatever. You know you you get the gist of the idea so i would say these are really. Good codes highly recommend them via our favorites they're extremely lightweight they're extremely packable everything packs up in its own little pocket you can see. It's got a double zipper on it and it. Just goes in relatively easy without. Much fuss without much this that or the other and just gonna eat your shelf. Liner but that's basically what you're. Left with and i'll even go through the. Effort of zipping it even though i have. Found that with these compressible coats. And things like this you really need to. Pull the zipper together to zip it or. Else you basically wind up putting too much force on the zipper itself that's. Pretty self-explanatory this isn't rocket science or anything like that and. Anyway about size of my hand of course i. Got rather large size hands but it's just the way it is well what else can i. Say. Told you the pricing told you this there or the other course at 300 and 350 and. If you're going to use these things you're whacked out of your gourd but. That you know they're dumb people born. Every day this guy's knives and watches and have a. Good one buy things when people don't. Want them don't buy them when they're in high demand you know by last year's. Probably i pulled the wrong one out the older ones had elastic on the edge elastic if it's really good quality kind. Of a problem with the newer ones. Don't they have a just a basic wear. Strip there which has very little flecks. In it i don't know how that's going to. Actually which one's going to wear out first or give up its ghost first but. These are wearing well this gots knives. And watches peace out.

Layer or for cool weather temperatures the ghost whisperer is insulated with. 850 full q shield down what's so. Important about that is it is water repellent down traditionally down insulation while very compressible very. Warm is susceptible to decrease. Performance should it become wet so in humid conditions in moist conditions it. Loses its ability to keep you warm it is a low profile jacket again it's not designed for the coldest of weather but. A certainly intended to keep you warm can't do that if that down can't retain. Its abilities and q shield down allows. This jacket to function in all types of conditions also helping to maintain that. Lightweight design 70 + 10 d ripstops. Nylon shell fabric here on the jacket it. Is surprisingly tough but that is. Definitely an ultra lightweight fabrication — so be aware of that as far. As adjust ability on the jacket you do have a single pull here at the hem to. Snug that in and kind of dial in fit. Elasticity at the cuffs you do have a. Full length zipper on the jacket so easy. On easy off not gonna find that on every. Jacket that's a mere 7 ounces a lot of. Times in order to accomplish that manufacturers have to go to the half zip the ghost whisperer down jacket does have that convenient folds it as far as. Pocketing is concerned on the jacket very streamlined you do have two zippered hand warmer pockets there aren't any internal pockets or chest. Pockets on this jacket the right side. Pocket does allow you to stow the jacket. Inside it so when you don't need it when you just want to throw it inside your pack it hides away inside its very own. Integrate here's that ghost whisperer stuffed away. Inside that right pocket you can see those nice compact dimensions and again. At just seven ounces this really is an. Ideal piece for the backpacker to have. At the ready when temperatures dip a. Little bit and you just need a little extra warmth certainly looks great to do so a nice option for cool weather.

Right now I'm wearing the ghost whisperer down jacket and i love this thing. My favorite function of the ghost whisperer down jacket is its weight to. Warmth ratio it keeps you really warm. But it's also extremely light and. Packable so you can pack it into a tight. Little ball fist size roughly clip it to. Your harness climb a pitch get to the belay be cold and bust out your ghost. Whisperer down jacket throw it on and be. Warm again it's just so warm for how. Light and small it is its perfect.

Okay guys this is the mountain hardwear ghost whisperer down jacket down is a. 800 fill down i don't actually have the. Gram weight of the down because the manufacturer didn't provide that information 7 deniers by 10 denier ripstop nylon meaning i think it's seven. In one direction int in another direction it does have a dwr finish like. The other jackets that we've discussed and also mountain hardwear I'm going a step further, and they have put a dwr treatment on the down itself inside the. Jacket they claim this down is more water resistance than standard down. There are lots of little cells, and they are totally closed off so you don't have. That concern about having down migrate. Around between the down cells zipped all. The way up the color does stand up again we do have space zipping seems smooth no issues there. This cut is clearly a longer and thinner. More athletic cut than the boxiness of the mont beljac its turn here and give. You a view of the sides and back five. You again a view with the zipper down just so you get a feel for what that looks like this is a medium and on my. Frame i feel again this is too big too baggy a lot of folks like their jackets like this right they want to put a lot of layers underneath they like to have that roominess bagginess i like it a little bit more fitted again no hood on this cuff style. There's no elastic in the cuff they have. What they call i think they called it a buttery lining it's just sort of suede. Or soft lining a suede light probably. Not actually swayed it's actually snug or even though it's not elastic it actually sits around my hands making a better seal than the anorak and the plasma did. I think because it's longer so it sits down on the wider meteor part of my hands and makes a seal this one is kind of. Interesting I'll try and show you a close-up later it's a single point. Although the court does go all the way. Around your body it's a single pull. Hopefully you can see that and then the release is actually inside here and. Maybe we can get a close-up of that later but what you do is you just pinch. The release and then it comes undone no. Problem pockets now this is important to me this actually has two hand warming. Pockets okay big deep and warming pockets with a nice zipper on those. Which is something that we haven't seen any other models fabric wise this. Actually feels a little shinier than the. Montville jackets I'm not so much into. The shininess but it's not a problem is. Clearly less crinkly than the montville. Jackets I've got no pretty cleanness at all no creaking noise 209 grams. Now this jacket does not have a stuff sack it does stuff into its own pocket. The right side pocket has a reverse. Zipper so when you go inverted you do. Have a zipper on the outside so that's a nice feature okay guys you're looking at the small and the ghost whisperer the. Mountain hardwear ghost whisperer jacket and snug it's fitted i can still get a. Layer underneath it at least a nice thick capilene maybe even a fleece but. This is what i like let me give you a look with the zipper on and off how that. Feels and wears and do a little runway. Show for you get the front back insides. This jacket is weighs in and 195 grams. So again a little bit heavier than the. Mock bail jackets but still extremely light and it does have the other features obviously that i mentioned with regard to the medium so i hope that's helped we're gonna talk about pack ability price, and then we'll wrap it up what we're. Sack these are stuffed into their own pocket. All of these stuffed fairly easily i. Think this bag is actually slightly bigger than this bag the plasma bag is. Bigger than the anorak bag that's why it looks bigger although the anorak is a slightly larger jacket with a hood so it's actually packed in there a little tighter all of these jackets compress a lot more if i. Have three hands i would show you if you take your palms and smoosh both ends. These jackets together you can easily smush them to half the length of what. They are in front of you now certainly within the size or volume of that nalgene bottle there so that's the. Review guys i spent a lot of time looking at these jackets being reviews and then evaluating these jackets in my own home i spent some time trying to put. Together a video that would give you the. Best of all the videos and reviews that i watched so i would cover all the information people say some things, and they leave out other parts i tried to cover all the details with all three jackets so you can really get an idea of. I am wearing the mountain hardwear ghost whisperer hooded down jacket. This ultra lightweight piece weighs in at just eight ounces. It utilizes water resistant down insulation to give you all weather performance whether. You are wearing this as a cool weather outer wear piece or as part of a colder weather. Layering system. Let’s take a closer look at its fit and features. The jacket is insulated with 800 fill q shield, water resistant down. So like you would expect from down insulation, extremely lightweight, extremely compressible. And a really strong warmth to weight ratio. However, over the years down has proven to lose its ability to keep you warm if it should. Become wet or damp. With the water resistant treatment to this down, you don’t have to worry about that. Nearly as much. It stays dry longer. Should it become wet, it still retains its ability to keep you warm. A really, really nice treatment to that down insulation. That said, it is worth pointing out that there is not a lot of insulation in this jacket. That is by design. It is an ultra lightweight layering piece. Again, you can certainly wear it as a standalone piece, but in cool weather as opposed. To cold weather. You do have narrow baffles that helps to keep the insulation where it should be so it doesn’t. Migrate and it also helps to bolster the warmth that this jacket is able to deliver. The exterior shell fabric on this jacket... keep in mind, we are talking about an ultra. Lightweight piece. So you have got a 70 by 10 d nylon rip stop. It is surprisingly strong and abrasion resistant, but still, we are talking about an ultra light. Weight design. So keep that in mind if you are weighing durability versus performance. That low profile design makes this, again, a great layering piece. You are not going to get a lot of layers underneath this, base layers, certainly. If it is a mid layer, you have got to be extremely low profile. There is a certain expectation that you are likely to put something either even warmer. Over top of it or a more weather resistant, weather proof hard shell jacket. There are elastic cuffs, an interesting treatment on the interior here that keeps those cuffs. In place. a single point of adjust ability on the hem to cinch the fit in there. It is a hooded jacket. No real adjust ability there. Just elastic that runs around the face that gives that a nice, trim, comfortable fit. In keeping with that streamlined design, you only have two pockets on the jacket, zippered. Pockets here on the front. Not much to speak of as far as the lining, but you do have that insulation over the top. Of the hands, so they are warm pockets. The right pocket here also serves as a stow pocket. Put the jacket inside there and show you just how small and compact this jacket is when. Put inside that pocket. You see just how small and compact the jacket is when stuffed inside that right-hand pocket. There is an attachment point here if you want to lash it to the outside of a pack or a harness. At this size i think it is perfect for actually throwing it inside the pack or the top lid. Pocket on a back pack. So you have got that ultra light warmth handy when you need it. Hi this is craig geology with review of the mountain hardwear ghost whisperer hooded down jacket for pro like here calm i would put this jacket up against. The patagonia ultralight down hoody but. I like this jacket better for the following reasons number one it's lighter weight and number two it uses a more intelligent or a higher performance. Baffle design than the ultralight down hoody from patagonia and it's got a what. I feel is a better design around the. Neck area for a hooded jacket let's tell you a little bit about this jacket comes in 7.9 ounces or 223. Grams I'm wearing a size medium the size. Large was cut a little big for me it's filled with two point eight ounces of 850 fill power q shields a hydrophobic. Down q shield is similar to the sierra. Designs dry down they've talked about earlier it's where they take each individual plume, and they treat the. Plume with a dwr durable water repellent. To make it hydrophobic so that the balloon or the plume can withstand the. Presence of moisture and not collapse you know down works by when it's inside a baffle it's the loft or the. Springiness of those individual down plumes that create the dead air space inside these baffles i haven't played. Around a lot with the q shield so i look. Forward to testing that out a little bit more in the future and kind of validating just how well it works and. Some other things about this jacket it's using their whisper or fabric which is a seven janiero by changing your fabric it's a really lightweight fabric and. It's kind of just a really nice hand — it's very compressible the baffle design this is using about a 1.4 inch. One point three six inches sized baffle so. A good baffle it's a uniform baffle. Versus some of the other products up here that are using these variegated. Baffle designs the draw cord it's a very. Small draw cord in the waist but it does have a draw cord for the waste it's a hidden draw cord it does have two. Zippered pockets on it. And what i like about this jacket is when you zip it all the way up it. Creates a nice tight fit around the neck helps seal off that neck area, and we. Noticed that when we're looking at these jackets underneath the ar with the flir thermal imaging camera that this jacket. The hooded jacket sometimes when you zip them all the way up they still leave a bit of room around the neck and you can. See that the heat escaping through the neck on hooded jacket, so they all work. Pretty well once you put the hood up it's when you just have them fully zipped up with the hood down that we can tell a difference so i really like this and it just uses a standard kind of. Stretch binding in the cuff but it's a. Little bit loose fitting that's the only thing i might say about this jacket is the cuff could fit a little bit. Tighter so that wraps up the review of. The mountain hardwear ghost whisperer. Down hooded jacket it's a jacket that i. Really like it works well as a layering. Hi I'm after steve and today I'm testing. And reviewing mountain hardwear's updated ghost whisperer down jacket this. Down jacket has got to be the lightest down jacket i have ever picked up i keep. Hanging it to people and telling them to try it because they just can't believe how light it weighs the entire coat is. Just over 200 grams and is incredibly. Compressible to be able to stuff it in a. Backpack I've been using it now for over. Two months including up in the mountains in poland for hiking and it has been an absolute dream to wear being a super. Lightweight jacket it's pretty stripped down it doesn't have that many features for example the cops are just elasticized but there still are two full. Hand stash pockets it's got a fairly small zipper once you zip it up it fits. Really nicely as you can see so it's. What's called an active fit and hugs your body quite nicely the jacket as well. Features a single quick pull waist cinch. Located on one side i just pull it here. And it tightens up around my waist which is quite handy to be able to do it with just one hand we're insulation this jacket uses an 850. Fill down and if you know anything about down that means it's pretty darn warm. But the real magic is the fact that they've actually created a process which they call q shield down i guess and it. A cue shield for the down so it keeps is. Slightly more water resistant than other down jackets and the jacket has been giving me very warm i got this jacket. Because it is extremely lightweight and it's 800 fell down i wanted something with a little bit more insulation than my older jacket that was the patagonia men's nano puff jacket the jacket only. Weighs seven and a half ounces and it could compact inside its own pocket which is great i was really shocked with. How lightweight this jacket was so one thing i was a little bit disappointed in the jacko's i would imagine that there would been a little bit more of a loft to the jacket maybe it's just me I'm not. Really sure but for 800 foot down i would imagine that would have been more loft so one thing i was nervous about when i first bought this jacket was the size so I'm about 510 and 160 pounds and. I usually go between a medium and a large but i decided to go with a medium and a medium fits great i have slightly longer. Arms so sometimes i have to get a large. Means that every down plume or the down. Was treated with a dwr coating to. Protect it from some of the weaknesses of down which is moisture there is. Tennis balls tumble dry low for about 60. Minutes i guess you could do it a little. Shorter but i like to do it on low heat not to damage the fabric and end it down. As much as i can i will be adding you. No down safe detergent to my cleaning. Supplies whatever you want to call that. For all my down coats now i wound up purchasing this jacket. Because i felt that the cerium lt was. Just a little bit warm for my daily use here in new york city this jacket is. Great down to freezing and up to the. Mid-40s you don't overheat with this as much as. The cerium lt and then app when it goes. Up and we have days when it's 35 in the.
