Don't feel it when you're running or anything and the same goes with the. Other front pocket and the zippers are. Easy to zip up and zip down the outer. Shell has a dwr finish which is great. Because really the only thing that gets things wet is then your sweat so you're good as you can see running things don't. Bounce around too much, so they're great pair shorts i really like them quite a bit so a lot of really great features to. These shorts and i bought the first pair. Okay guys like i said today i get to review a trio of tech tees these are all. Three from outdoor research tech tees in. My opinion are probably one of the most. Important versatile and just. All-around pieces that you need for all seasons i wear these spring summer and. Fall and then they can also be great base layers in the winter so for those. Of you that don't know I'm sure everybody knows what tech t is but the tech t is a trim fitting athletic. T-shirt that is generally not made of cotton just because cotton is not a performance fabric and doesn't dry quickly it also just doesn't have that great form fit and performance that you're looking for. That you get with synthetic materials so. The first step in the trio is the. Outdoor research igniter this tech. T is probably the most comfortable of. The three I'm going to review in this video they call this a heathered. Material I'm not quite sure really what. Heathered means but to me it just means that it's soft so this is an all synthetic but this one feels the most. Like cotton so if you're looking for the. Most comfortable t-shirt i would go with. The igniter it also happens to be the most trim fit so all three of these are. Mediums and four for this medium. This is definitely the most trim fit it's the tightest and the arms and in the armpits so it just depends on what. You're looking for as far as fit but. This is the trim stuv the three and this is the most comfortable so if you're doing maybe an activity that isn't the. Most high output or you don't need the. The Highest performance as far as wicking properties breath ability quick drying if. You're just looking for something a little bit more like a t-shirt but still has performance properties of a tec. Teeth look at the outdoor research igniter. Okay this is the echo from outdoor. Research the echo is by far the lightest. This shirt is unbelievable just. Because it really feels like you're wearing nothing so when i want to. Do something that i almost don't want to wear a shirt but i just want to wear a shirt maybe for abrasion protection with. A pack or if it's super hot out and i. Don't want to get sunburned I'll throw on a shirt this is the one I'm gonna look for because this is just the absolute lightest of the three that I'm. Reviewing today again the echo that this. Has kind of dual colorway a nice light. Blue with this high visibility yellow so this would be a great option for a running shirt as well especially just so you can be seen on the road as. Far as fit i would say this is actually. Probably the loosest or the largest of. The cuts it's definitely looser in the sleeves. And it's a little bit baggy er in the. Waist so it just has that loose airy feeling to it really feels like you're wearing nothing this is a this is also a great piece like i said this is the one. I'm gonna go for it when i don't really want to wear a shirt but i either have to wear a shirt or i just want some sort of protection that a shirt offers I'm gonna look at the echo again super high. Performance and this pattern this. Fabric pattern its kind of square. Crosshatch pattern very high performance. Again these are all quick-drying very. Breathable so yeah this is another great. Option again the lightest okay guys this. Is the last shirt in the trip today this is the outdoor research gage now the gage in my opinion is the highest performing shirt of the three this. Fabric is like magic it's super breathable it dries amazingly. Quick i think the fit is probably in. My opinion it's probably the best it kind of combines between the igniter and the echo kind of in-between fit so not. So tight that it's tight in the arms and. Tighten the armpits but it's also not baggy in the waist. Either so i think this is the probably the best fit as far as performance is concerned and this fabric. Is also probably the highest performance as far as far as breath ability quick-drying just overall this is what you think of. When you think of a high performance tech tee now it's not the most comfortable and. It's not the most lightweight so you're gonna have to strike that balance between what do you want it to feel like on your skin kind of that on the skin feel also are you willing to sacrifice. Just a little bit of weight it just has a little bit of a heavier weight not as. Much as an airy feel as the echo but i. Think the strikes are good balance and this is the highest performing of. The three it also has the most detail as. Kind of the exposed stitching has kind. Of a pretty cool design may be more of a runners look in the back not so much like an outdoor sports like rock. Climbing or mountain bike look it has more of a runners look but this is. A great one super high performance if I'm going to be doing a high output activity or something like. Climbing in a gym that's general a little warmer than the outside I'll go for this one just because it. Dries so fast and it's probably the. The Highest performance in my opinion overall all three shirts are great now. My only gripe with all three is that. They run really large for me i like tech. Tees to be slim fit i don't want them to. Be big and bulky like a traditional just street wear or street cotton t-shirt i. Want them to be form fit because for me performance is number one when it comes to this style t-shirt so i had to size all of these down everything I've ever reviewed for outdoor research all the tops the jackets the shirts they've all been larges all three of these that i. Reviewed in this video are all mediums i originally got the largest, and they were way too big so if you want something a. Little higher performance and you like the trim fit that you kind of see on me in these videos be sure to size down one you normally would get in a typical t-shirt so that's my only gripe is the. Fit be sure to size down but other than that all three are great different applications we're looking for comfort lightweight or high performance i think that they pretty much have the whole the. Hi it's brad from back country skiing canada calm and today we're here at whitewater ski resort to talk about the north face thermoball hoodie that I've gone on here this is a new synthetic jacket from the north face and it's a little bit different it's a its insulation mimics down in a way traditional synthetic jackets would use long sheets of synthetic insulation and. Thermal ball doesn't do that primal often vented thermal wall and north face is now using it in the thermal bulk hoody and what thermoball is its small tiny little clusters or balls hence the name thermoball that are inside the baffle so you can see the jacket has lots of checkerboards pattern baffles here and that's what contains the thermal ball inside the exterior the jack is a 15 denier nylon baffle pattern. Shell and that keeps the thermoball in place where it needs to be these little clusters they provide more loft than. Traditional synthetic insulation and therefore more warmth which is evident. In this jacket it's very thin but it keeps me very warm given the size it's a very light jack it's only 400 grams and it excels in damp conditions wear down traditionally doesn't so if there's a bit of moisture the synthetic insulation will handle that a lot better it's a really simple mid layer there is a hood. Obviously and it zips up nice and tight. But there is no there is no adjust ability on the hood and it just. Comes with two hand warmer pockets and on the inside of the jacket there's no other pockets or features, so they try to keep it light and clean compact down to. Next to nothing and 400 grams is a nice. Little lightweight mid layer that you can take for back country skiing or you could use an exterior jacket as well I've been skiing the resort and this one and it keeps me pretty warm and then in the back country you can throw it on when you stop for lunch and that kind of things the north face thermoball hoody retails for about $250 canadian and it's available now it just came out this year fall 2013 and if you want to read the full review on this or look for many. New synthetic insulation it's developed by the north face and primaloft together, and they called it thermoball and it closely mimics the loft properties of down the benefit however is that it doesn't lose its loft properties when it. Gets wet so it's a really cool advancement in down alternative technology let's go through some of the features, and then we'll talk about performance after that the thermoball. Hoody features an elastic hood elastic cuffs and two hand warmer pockets which contain draw cords for the waist the. Thermoball insulation is sewn into a square pattern and is said to be equivalent to 600 fill power down the jacket will pack into the left hand warmer pocket and it weighs in at just over 14 ounces so my first experience. With this jacket was at the 2013 outdoor retailer show and i was really surprised to hear that it wasn't a true down jacket everything about it looks and. Really feels the part of a down jacket even this square stitching pattern but there are some major differences that I'd like to discuss for starters most. Down these days is at least 800 fill power down this one is equivalent to 600 fill power down so it's not quite as warm and it's also not quite as pack able as some of the modern down jackets on the market that being said if you live in a wet climate this jacket is an obvious choice for you down just really. Doesn't work when it gets wet and thermoball will maintain its loft even if it's not raining those high humidity climates can really just suck the life right out of your down jacket so this thermoball hoody actually has an advantage over down in that regard to me. The fit of this jacket seemed really spot-on about 511 and it was just long. Enough that you could wear it as an outerwear piece but not so bulky that you can't layer with it and it's really comfortable to wear all day too so all. In all if you're in the market for a synthetic down jacket this might not be. hello it's ty from the outdoor here and. I am wearing the north face or odd hoodie now this is a thermal top that. Can be either worn as a mid layer or in. Its own right to give you some warmth on cold days it. Is not waterproof and it is not wind proof but it is warm the fabric of the. Hoodie is 95% polyester and 5% in. Lasting so that enables it to be very. Very stretchy as you can see and in the. Arms as well so is a an excellent hoodie. If you want that extra layer of warmth. And you are doing something really active like climbing scrambling or. Moving fast over technical ground it. Gives you that freedom of movement and as you can see that stretch ability and. Nabel's you to move pretty well it is. What the north face described as a gridded fleece top and you can see on. The inside that gridded pattern. Which provides the warmth it captures your body heat and holds it to keep you. Warm so as well as being quite free and that. Elastic it gives you that warmth. Wherever you may be the boren hoody has a hood that's why. It's called a hoodie which does up quiet. Neatly to the chin the outside of around. The face is elastic but it's not particularly tight so it doesn't put in. Particularly well so there's quite a bit of space still there and even but it can. Get a climbing helmet on top of climbing hem it will fit on top of this quite comfortably and quite easily the sleeves. Are elasticated as well and again there's quite a bit. Looseness there it's not the right word i mean if you wanted to put gloves on excellent if not well help keep your. Wrist bit cool or i guess if that's what you want to do there is a chest pocket. Napoleon chest pocket which is not particularly large but you will get something like your phone or garmin in there and then there are two good hand. Pockets either side here which have got. Plenty of room in them and you can easily get a map or something like that inside the hem is elasticated slightly. Not major it's slightly elastic 80 again. But it's a good fit so it covers quite well it is very comfortable to wear and. Definitely has that sense of freedom it.
