Castelli Free Sanremo Sleeveless Suit - Men's
The Castelli Men's Sleeveless Free Sanremo Suit boasts water-shedding, wind-cheating, highly ventilated functionality, and we think the advantages over a jersey/shorts pairing are obvious. In a non-wetsuit-legal swim, you need a suit that will slip through the water and won't weigh you down. On the bike, you want to be aerodynamic and limit drag-creating transitional ridges. On the run, you want to be chafe free. The skinsuit platform achieves all three.
The Sanremo was constructed from SpeedFreak ventilated fabric up top and Instadry Speed fabric across the shorts. These form-fit fabrics are fast through the water and, once you are on the bike, dry quickly. Once dry, the Velocity mesh back not only has been proven as a watt-saver in the wind tunnel, it also helps to move moisture away from the skin to keep you dry and cool. The addition of a full-length camlock zipper also aids in cooling and ventilation by opening the top of the suit like a standard bike jersey, not to mention making pit stops during ultra-endurance races speedier.
To minimize chafing, Castelli included the KISS Tri Seat Pad, a lightly padded insert that dries quickly after the swim. It's thick enough to support you during that 100-plus mile bike leg, but thin enough that you won't even feel it during the marathon. Additionally, the Free Sanremo suit is sewn with flatlock stitching and includes large back pockets to hold all of your race day nutrition.
Pearl Izumi ELITE Escape Softshell Jacket - Men's
When we're pinning on numbers during race season, we expect our kit to be as minimalistic as possible; however, for training in inclement conditions, utility is our primary concern. Pearl Izumi's Elite Escape Softshell Men's Jacket falls squarely in the latter category by combining a windproof, water-resistant membrane with thermal insulation and a fit that's friendly to winter layering. The full-length front zipper is backed by a draft flap, and the jacket is finished with two chest pockets and one rear pocket, all of which zip closed to protect ride cargo.
Giordana FR-C Pro Bib Short - Men's
We all have our favorite pair of bibs that we'll reserve for the hardest rides or the longest days. The FR-C Pro Bib Shorts from Giordana will quickly become your new go-to bibs with their selection of premium fabrics and outstanding fit. This creates bibs that are so supremely comfortable, they'll go unnoticed until you return to a substandard pair of shorts.
Giordana's HC50 High Compression Power Lycra is a supercharged version of Lycra that takes the previous HC-44 to another level by providing added compression with a higher thread count. HC-50’s ultra-compact knit is lighter and offers better performance benefits of higher compression rates usually found only in heavier fabrics. New leg band material expands for comfort and stability while staying perfectly in place.
We've always been proponents of Giordana's FormaRed fit, but the revised construction ups the ante even more by virtually eliminating creased and bunched fabrics throughout the pedal stroke. The top-tier Cirro O.F. chamois has a varying thickness that is 14mm at its maximum. The face fabric utilizes a Nylon microfiber that incorporates aloe vera permanently infused into the threads during the manufacturing process that cools and reduces odor accumulation. Underneath this layer is 4mm thick memory foam with a waffled texture that aids in breathability and moisture management by moving perspiration to the outside of the bibs for quick evaporation.
Castelli Pro Mesh Sleeveless Baselayer - Men's
It's tempting to ditch every extra layer as soon as the sun comes out and late spring officially takes hold, but riding with a baselayer can still make a big difference in temperature management and breathability. On a warm spring morning with a cool breeze, layer the Castelli Pro Mesh Sleeveless Baselayer under your jersey. Rather than being weighed down by the extra layer, you'll enjoy faster moisture transfer with the addition of ultralight mesh fabric next to your skin, helping you stay drier as you heat up in variable temps.
Showers Pass Transit Pants - Men's
The Showers Pass Transit Pants are built to fend off any weather and get you through your commute happy and dry. Made of breathable yet waterproof Artex three-layer fabric with a cycling-specific fit, these pants provide some of the best wet-weather protection available. Showers Pass adds fully taped seams to fend off even the tiniest of water droplets and reflective elements to increase visibility in low-light conditions. These pants also pack easily into their own stuff sack for transport in case it starts to rain later in the day.
Castelli Nano Flex 2 Bib Knickers - Men's
Ill-fitting knickers are the bane of road cyclists' existence, particularly those who train in cold-weather locales. If you can't recall a pair of knickers you've owned that you've actually liked, know that you can toss your ill-fitting old knickers and trade them for something made to fit well. Castelli's expertise in fit is no secret, and the Italian firm takes the construction of its Nano Flex 2 Bib Knickers as seriously as the rest of its impeccably tailored kit.
Whether the skies look gloomy before you head out or you're caught in a surprise shower, Nano Flex fabric was created specifically to combat wet, inclement weather on the bike. The Nano Flex 2 Knickers continue the legacy their predecessor set, repelling water while establishing a layer of warmth close to your skin.
Castelli purposely eliminates seaming wherever possible to reduce the likelihood of water soaking through the knickers, and it adds secure Giro3 grippers to the cuffs to create a consistent fit that seals out road spray. The bib itself is mesh, airy and breathable, designed to subtly sit under a jersey and be barely noticeable when you're pedaling. Castelli's Kiss Air chamois loyally stands guard between you and the saddle, providing multi-layered cushioning that remains supportive and breathable over the miles, however cold and rainy they may be.
DAKINE Boundary Short - Men's
Built to charge from rolling singletrack to chunky all-mountain lines, the Dakine Boundary Short is lightweight and ready to shred. They're built from DWR treated polyester that sheds water and mud, while letting cool air in constantly, and still maintaining a knack for standing up to rogue branches and abrasion. To keep durability a priority, Dakine's designers equip the shorts with welded seams that hold up to rigorous riding, and stay out of the way to avoid chaffing, while still maintaining lightweight construction for easy pedaling. On the hottest trail days you'll appreciate the attention to detail in the Boundary Shorts, with inner leg mesh that lets cool air in constantly, and wicking fabric that pulls away sweat to keep you dry. To top it all off you'll find a zippered side pocket for stashing your valuables, and interior waist adjustment tabs to dial in the perfect fit for a day on the bike.
Giro Pivot II Glove - Men's
Cold, wet hands are no bueno and Giro's updated Pivot II gloves launches a two-pronged attack against both by keeping water out and warmth in. The gloves are equipped with an OutDry membrane that provides a formidable barrier against outside moisture while still allowing our hands to breathe quite well. While we probably wouldn't voluntarily start a cold ride in the wet, it's nice to know that if we get caught out in some rain or if we're toeing the line of sloppy cyclocross race, at least our hands are prepared.
The membrane is permanently bonded to the inside of the glove shell fabric to reduce bulk. Combining this with the Super Fit 5-finger design, this glove has great dexterity and bar control. AX Suede Echo patches add palm durability and help clutch wet bar tape and grips, while a large microfiber sweat wipe adds a soft touch for drying the brow when the going gets tough or wiping the schnoz when cool weather makes things messy. Touchscreen compatibility lets us check the radar on our weather app so we can gauge if we're riding into or out of precipitation.
It's nice to know with all of the technology on the outside of the glove that the lining wasn't forgotten. AGrid anti-microbial thermal fleece lining keeps our hands pampered on the inside of the gloves. In the right conditions, the Pivot II is super capable and without compromise.
Attaquer All-Day Bib Short - Men's
The Attaquer Men's All-Day Bib Shorts keep your riding comfortably when you're grinding away for long hours in the saddle. Italian-made Lycra offers form-fitting support, with a softer, less compressive feel than Attaquer's Race Bibs. This fabric features an anti-UV treatment that reduces heat build-up for a cool-wearing sensation. UPF 50+ protects your lower body from searing UV rays, which is especially important on high-elevation rides and jaunts along sunny coastlines.
Perhaps the most impressive feature, the multi-density, two-piece chamois lessens saddle pressure while absorbing road vibration from fatiguing your distance efforts. Ultimately, this means you'll ride in silky-smooth comfort, even across jarring roadways and hours of high-cadence pedaling. Soft, perforated bib straps retain a supportive fit, without digging into your skin or causing excess perspiration. Other design-savvy features include silicone leg grippers for a slip-free fit and reflective tabs for enhanced visibility after dark.
Sportful Stelvio Jacket - Men's
The ultimate in road cycling weather protection, the Sportful Men's Stelvio Jacket is designed for those days when getting and staying wet is not an option. Constructed with a RainWick Stretch fabric, and with fully sealed seams, this jacket keeps rain, sleet, and snow at bay, while allowing the buildup of sweaty, internal moisture to escape easily after finishing a particularly tough hill climb. The longer cut provides some extra coverage against wheel spray when the roads are still plenty wet, while the silicone waist elastic locks down the fit with snug security and prevents ride-ups. Clean finished cuffs feature elastic inserts to optimize the fit with reduced bulk, and reflective accents enhance your visibility for added safety through dark, low-light rides.
TYR Competitor Front Zipper Tri Suit - Men's
The only other suit in creation that can swim, run, cycle—not to mention fly—is a superhero suit. That is, until the TYR Men's Competitor Front Zipper Tri Suit was created. Designed specifically for unequivocal performance regardless of what triathlon leg you're on, the Competitor features an adaptive design that functions like three separate suits in one, simple, and anatomic design
The Competitor's anatomic design is based on a nylon and spandex construction—these materials combined provide a supportive structure and four-way stretch to guarantee freedom of movement in each discipline. The blend moves moisture away from the skin to the quick-drying surface of the fabric, subsequently keeping you dry and comfortable—regardless of the transitions or what leg you're on.
In regards to the fit, TYR designed the Competitor Tri Suit for competitors, which translates directly into an endurance-ready design. Additionally, it features a silicone beaded leg hem, knee-length lowers, and inset armholes that allow a non-pinching motion of the arms during the run and swim. As a result of these features, the suit touts more surface coverage, resulting in an increase in both gentle compression and resistance to wetsuit chafing.
And to offer some semblance of comfort throughout those exhaustive, pedal-to-the-metal moments, TYR included its the Competitor AMP chamois. This insert features a minimalist construction, which in turn provides just-enough support for the bike leg without obstructing comfort in either the swim or run. And because of the swim, TYR also designed the Competitor to be water-resistant and quick-drying. So, you won't be racing soggy after T1.
Castelli Evoluzione 2 Knicker - Men's
If you've been subjecting yourself to blasts of chilly air while riding in traditional cycling shorts, look no further than the Castelli Men's Evoluzione 2 Knicker for additional coverage required for cool conditions in late autumn and spring. This basic knicker forms the basis for Castelli's range of knickers, providing excellent value, but without sacrificing the form-fitting support or plush padding you'd find on more premium offerings. Case in point, the ProDry Soft 2-layer fabric actively pulls moisture off your body to better regulate body temperature. It's comprised of a polyester knit inner layer for a smooth feel and moisture-wicking comfort, paired with a nylon outer layer for a bit more support and shape retention over time.
Unlike other basic knickers on the market, the Evoluzione 2 comes with a top-flight KISS Air chamois comprised of infinitely variable thickness foam that's tapered along the sides for flexibility and thicker along the rear to relieve pressure on sensitive areas. It employs a seamless microfiber lining with dimpled surface that speeds up evaporation of sweat, as to eliminate the damp, irritating feel of a soaked chamois. Additionally, this knicker comes with InMold silicone leg grippers with a clean edge finish to prevent the bottoms from riding up.
