Elsewhere, so i was looking for a trail shoes using my regular sneakers obviously that's probably not going to be the best way to go or give you support and so i was going to go to the. The backpacking place or the hiking. Place where they have camping equipment but i wanted to stop in to the new balance store I've purchased new balance. Shoes in the past and just wanted to see what they had so i saw these shoes and right away i was like wow i really like them put them on my feet and i was like wow these feel so comfortable and luckily I'm also feeling good with my. Feet i had plantar fasciitis last year and fortunately i am doing so much better so i picked up the fresh foam herrero version three shoes wanted to. Talk with you a little bit about it share with you my experience walking on the trail I'll show you some videos but a really nice shoe so it comes this color is called the military dark. Triumph with black i also like this. Fluorescent yellow looks really cool and. It also has that on the tongue as well. The other color is called dynamite with. Black and impulse so you got to feel. How some of the shoes have a lot of flexibility they bend in and maybe four runners that's important because you're running and not really you may not always notice you might hit a rock and then you're gonna bruise your foot i find that it's although it bends in a bit it doesn't feel like it's you know. It's its kind of rigid so which is good i did although i will say there was one. Time over four miles when i was walking where i stepped and i felt like on the. Bottom of my foot otherwise it you know felt okay i know their shoes that have. Plates in them and i learned something about shoes so maybe if i got a second. Pair I'd have these and something else i may be having the ones with the plate in it but i think for walking i think it should be okay now as far as the. Material let me open let me on undo the. Shoelace here real quick i want too just to show you when i remove the shoelace. Where the this whole part this. While top section i like because their wraps around your foot so it keeps different items and rocks and dirt and. Everything from getting into your shoe and then right here on this part of the. Tongue it's got this rubberized material. So it's not going with these are not water-resistant shoes although it's like a rubberized material and you could. Spray it i bought like a new balance scotch guard type of material to help reduce if it's going to be wet out there then I'd have you know eliminate or. Minimize that there but it does have. That rubberized material now they call this material as far as the top here. It's a synthetic and mesh upper and. Enhanced with hypo skin technology that. Adapts to the shape of the foot to. Support movement in all directions and then again they have got the vibram sole where it really provides good traction. And support there i really like the shoe. Felt great had a double knot the shoe i. Felt like it was holding better when i double knot it didn't seem like it came loose and overall it was a good. Experience really liked them want to just share with you now just some of the video of some of the trails where it's. Walking so you get an idea in the shoes and I'll be back from my final thoughts Okay so there you go got an idea of the. Different terrain that i walked in on. And i did want to test as well when i. Was stepping on some of the rocks and pushing down on the shoes to see how that would feel but overall you know. Walking almost over four miles my feet. Feel good and I'm very pleased with them. Delay I've got a ton recorded and a ton of them be uploaded back to back to get me back on track surely but I'm. Starting the year with the 2016 outside. Magazine gear of the year the new bounds gogi this might be kind of quick. Review because there's a lot to like and very little to not like and it's a really simple shoe and understand i kind of like to be kind of minimum I'm not. A huge stuff we're and i don't like tons. Of you know weird things i don't want to wear a heart rate strap and a watch and headphones and music and i just simply. The better we'd like to be a nature we like to run a strap mount and go and that's the shoes kind of all about there. Is one thing you need to know about i think depending on what you want you or should you do for you the shoe i don't think is the jack-of-all-trades for everybody there's one part of it that. Needs to be discussed or you need to know but i feel like before you make a buying decision let's talk about the shoe top-down and why it's good why it's really pretty awesome nice padded tongue. Perfect amount not too squishy but nice and protection so you don't get any kind beer lace things going on in their lace guidance one simple one eye up in the top there that's awesome and a fit upper so it's nice and reinforced where it needs to be has plenty of flex points where it doesn't need to be in reinforce i especially love and it's counter dispute the discoloration here between. The two layers but that kind of seam right there is not an overlay so you get. A perfect amount of stretching and but hold right there i really love it the upper fifth grape has plenty of kinds of. Toe box room even though it's not the widest toe box in the world it's certainly a. Male being an ultra guy i love my ultras but i was able to put some decent miles and shooting out of any kind of issues with any kind of toe rubbing irritation any forefoot ache or whatever so a nice. Super comfortable fit in the last there lots of padding on the collar and tongue or on the heel here the heel counter. That's my one issue i have with this shoe so if I'm going to buy one single. Pair of shoes and what an all-terrain is kind of ridiculous if you are a really added trail runner I've run row it in the shoe I've run gravel road the shoe I've run buffed out trails i run slushy trails i have one section of trail in town that we love that is really pretty. Slanted and i almost came out of the. Shoe on that slanted trail and i attribute it not to the net not to the. Bad fit i think i had a problem with the nomad last year and two years ago after watch all my videos talking no mad at really issues it almost came out of the chute of the house because spacious it was this heel counter back here is. Really low and really small so the good part is it contributes to the weight and i didn't even notice it and all the other runs previous to this tested run i put on a slanted terrain but as soon as. I had my foot landing repeatedly on a really tilted trail which we sometimes hit i almost came out of the heel it's. Cut really low back here and it's not super supported on that kind of terrain so just something to keep in mind if you. Were going to be using it or intending it for that kind of terrain moving on fresh foam mid sole we love. That if you have in kind of new 1080 or the non tearing those you need to if you're using road miles of fresh foam is i think one of the best mid sole products. Out there right now it's responsive its cushioned it's durable i really like it. I've like an every shoe have tested outsole has their 80 tread and of course. Right away look at you like yeah where the logs there aren't any i mean the traction is great for a lot of condition lanes and road gravel buffed out trails. Even lightly rough trails is fine i got. A few rocks and boots and my running it was great the little protected here with a little rubber call it there plenty of traction on those plenty of stiffness it was great but if you're going to run to. Anything muddy and nasty and you're really sandy stuff maybe not the best shoe for that so again you know i don't. Now you using the mess 75% of your runs you know 97 runs would be great to the. Other percent you might need a little more durable rugged shoe to handle six. Millimeter drop being listed at nine. Point three ounces my size 14 weighed in and run a little under 11 so really on. The light side of the scale i could certainly see the shoes being like summer kind of trail shoe you know we don't have too many trails around here that are all that nasty especially the dry summer so i can get away with it but all in all i can really see my outside magazine gave. It their year the year this was a really versatile shoe it's super comfortable lightweight it goes fast and I'm really. Impressed by it so but I've always been impressed by McDonald shoes i still this day love the minimus I'm glad they brought it back which i will be posting a new review of that very shortly so anyway here the year 2016 still good in. 17 i think the colorways are cool i like this one the grin was also very cool paper more streetwise but anyway that's. Hi it's brad from back country skiing canada calm and today we're here at whitewater ski resort to talk about the north face thermoball hoodie that I've gone on here this is a new synthetic jacket from the north face and it's a little bit different it's a its insulation mimics down in a way traditional synthetic jackets would use long sheets of synthetic insulation and. Thermal ball doesn't do that primal often vented thermal wall and north face is now using it in the thermal bulk hoody and what thermoball is its small tiny little clusters or balls hence the name thermoball that are inside the baffle so you can see the jacket has lots of checkerboards pattern baffles here and that's what contains the thermal ball inside the exterior the jack is a 15 denier nylon baffle pattern. Shell and that keeps the thermoball in place where it needs to be these little clusters they provide more loft than. Traditional synthetic insulation and therefore more warmth which is evident. In this jacket it's very thin but it keeps me very warm given the size it's a very light jack it's only 400 grams and it excels in damp conditions wear down traditionally doesn't so if there's a bit of moisture the synthetic insulation will handle that a lot better it's a really simple mid layer there is a hood. Obviously and it zips up nice and tight. But there is no there is no adjust ability on the hood and it just. Comes with two hand warmer pockets and on the inside of the jacket there's no other pockets or features, so they try to keep it light and clean compact down to. Next to nothing and 400 grams is a nice. New synthetic insulation it's developed by the north face and primaloft together, and they called it thermoball and it closely mimics the loft properties of down the benefit however is that it doesn't lose its loft properties when it. Gets wet so it's a really cool advancement in down alternative technology let's go through some of the features, and then we'll talk about performance after that the thermoball. Hoody features an elastic hood elastic cuffs and two hand warmer pockets which contain draw cords for the waist the. Thermoball insulation is sewn into a square pattern and is said to be equivalent to 600 fill power down the jacket will pack into the left hand warmer pocket and it weighs in at just over 14 ounces so my first experience. With this jacket was at the 2013 outdoor retailer show and i was really surprised to hear that it wasn't a true down jacket everything about it looks and. Really feels the part of a down jacket even this square stitching pattern but there are some major differences that I'd like to discuss for starters most. Down these days is at least 800 fill power down this one is equivalent to 600 fill power down so it's not quite as warm and it's also not quite as pack able as some of the modern down jackets on the market that being said if you live in a wet climate this jacket is an obvious choice for you down just really. Doesn't work when it gets wet and thermoball will maintain its loft even if it's not raining those high humidity climates can really just suck the life right out of your down jacket so this thermoball hoody actually has an advantage over down in that regard to me. Enough that you could wear it as an outerwear piece but not so bulky that you can't layer with it and it's really comfortable to wear all day too so all. In all if you're in the market for a synthetic down jacket this might not be. Its own right to give you some warmth on cold days it. Is not waterproof and it is not wind proof but it is warm the fabric of the. Hoodie is 95% polyester and 5% in. Lasting so that enables it to be very. Very stretchy as you can see and in the. Arms as well so is a an excellent hoodie. If you want that extra layer of warmth. And you are doing something really active like climbing scrambling or. Moving fast over technical ground it. Gives you that freedom of movement and as you can see that stretch ability and. Nabel's you to move pretty well it is. What the north face described as a gridded fleece top and you can see on. The inside that gridded pattern. Which provides the warmth it captures your body heat and holds it to keep you. Warm so as well as being quite free and that. Elastic it gives you that warmth. Wherever you may be the boren hoody has a hood that's why. It's called a hoodie which does up quiet. Neatly to the chin the outside of around. The face is elastic but it's not particularly tight so it doesn't put in. Particularly well so there's quite a bit of space still there and even but it can. Get a climbing helmet on top of climbing hem it will fit on top of this quite comfortably and quite easily the sleeves. Are elasticated as well and again there's quite a bit. Looseness there it's not the right word i mean if you wanted to put gloves on excellent if not well help keep your. Wrist bit cool or i guess if that's what you want to do there is a chest pocket. But more protection than they shoe offer second tread in my opinion these. Lugs just aren't aggressive enough they do use continental rubber which is a good material but i want more aggressive tread for the terrain where i run which. Is usually loose rocky terrain third i. Like a low heel to toe drop and this. Comes in at eight millimeters which is a little high for my taste i personally. Like to be around six millimeters and under alright and that's not a huge list. Of cons but let's move on to the pros first let's talk about the lacing on the shoe this is something that is often overlooked but in my opinion can make or break a shoe i was expecting the lacing to be a con because minimalist shoes usually don't get the lacing system right but when you tighten the laces on. These shoes right here it won't slip so you don't lose the tension while you finish tying the rest of the shoe on top of that they've incorporated a thin layer of eb a like cushion type stuff in. The tongue between the laces and the top of your foot allowing for maximum comfort and i absolutely love this minimalist lacing systems have cut off. The circulation to the front of my foot in other shoes but these shoes do not have that problem because of that cushioning material right there second the upper construction i love the. Sock like fit the rip stop mesh is. Surprisingly and this shoe is extremely breathable third the weight you honestly feel like. You can fly in these they are light nimble and fast i love running fast in. These shoes at around 250 miles that are. Still, things about the shoes that are to be determined for example i can feel where my forefoot has started to compress the eba and with the small amount of cushion that i started with I'm worried did a cushion won't last much longer and the tread on the bottom of the shoe is already showing some wear and tear as for the upper i am very. This is the Adidas terr ex troublemaker. I'm going to talk to you today a little bit about my dislikes and my likes about the shoe why i would recommend this shoe. And what i wish they would change first. Off i really like the colors i like the. Way it looks i think it looks ready for a trail and i really like my trail shoes to look aggressive another thing that i. Really like they have the continental rubber on the bottom the continental. Rubber has really great durability it. Has good traction and gives you enough protection at the same time it's thin. Enough that you need you feel the trail you're running on and i really like that issue i don't want it to be overly protective so the upper i feel like the. Upper is very well-built the mesh feels very durable around the edge of the shoe. It looks like they put in a protective plastic coating so that the mesh has. A little bit more protection on the toe and anywhere else that you may hit a. Branch or rock that could tear the mesh along with the upper the lacing they've. Got it right on i absolutely love this lacing system I've had a few other shoes that have similar systems and i don't. See why anyone would have normal shoelaces anymore i really like what they've done here this shoe has a low to the ground feel in the hill it's 25. Millimeters stack height and in the. Front the 17 millimeter stack height I'll talk about the drop in a little bit but it doesn't feel like you're really high up feels like you're down there in the dirt it gives that sense of a fast. Shoe the toe box on this shoe it's a. Very medium-sized toe box it fits perfectly for my foot I've had issues with a few other Adidas shoes having the toe box be a little bit too tight this does not have that issue it's more of a medium fit one thing that i wish was different is with the tareq's of gravid. They had a 5.5 millimeter lug height and these lugs aren't as big. They come in at four point four millimeters and i found myself wishing. For a little bit of extra in some loose gravel and loose dirt. Walls on the trail these shoes are great. However if you're running a little bit. On the road to get to the trail the lug height isn't going to bother you. While you're on the road getting to the trail but i do wish that the lugs were a. Little bit bigger like the gravid this shoe is not extremely cushioned besides. Feeling like it's a minimal issue i. Just feel like i'm wishing that i had the boost material after running in the tareq's of gravid i just i love that. Boost material it i never felt like it. Was losing its cushion that doesn't take. Away from the fact that this is great material and it will last long but i don't think it will last as long as the boost material but that's just my opinion it is a bit heavier weighing in at 11 ounces it has great protection so. The weight on trail shoes its kind of. Given to take depending on how much protection you want versus how much you want the shoot away i think this is a happy medium maybe a little bit on the. Heavy side i mentioned before that it's a 25 millimeter in the back a 17. Millimeter stack height in the front which leaves us at an 8 millimeter drop which is a little bit on the high side for me i like to be closer to 5 or lower. But because of the low profile it. Doesn't feel like there's a big drop height so I'm going to go ahead and just. Say that we're ok at 8 and it feels more. Like a 5 all around i see this shoe is a solid trail running shoe i don't think you can go wrong with this shoe i think it will last a long time it has great grip it has great durability if you just. Breathe really well you'll hardly notice that you're wearing them aside from the fact that you get actual cushion under your foot and you won't necessarily feel. Those rocks and roots on the trail the thing i like most about these shoes is that they don't have a tongue they don't. Really have any padding on the upper it's essentially a fully perforated evie a sleeve that you slide your foot into this gives you that sock like feel it's. Gonna fit snug while adapting to your foots movement and structure the upper. Is all mesh which covers that perforated. Eba and there are synthetic overlay portions which give the shoe some extra. Tarek's a graphics the men's Adidas. Terr ex a graphic we're going to go over. A list of pros and cons things that I'd like things that i don't like about the shoe and hopefully it will give you an idea of whether you should buy it. So first off we're going to start with the drop i like a low drop shoe I've. Been running it ultras all of my road. Shoes have been low drop the highest. I'll go is six or seven and this is pushing at it's at six millimeters but i. Consider that fine especially since that is the lowest drop that Adidas offers at this point i believe the tread on the shoe you can see right here it's its. Pretty beefy and that's something that i. Really like in a trail shoe you want something that's going to grip and this does a really good job this is continental bike tire rubber I'm not. Really sure what it is but it does a. Good job all around like the i really. Like this oldest shoe it's good it's been grippy on wet surfaces on wet rocks it does well where it's super dusty and. A lot of loose dirt a lot of loose. Gravel it really grips all that with. Other brands of shoes I've had these lugs break off and i have yet to even see anything like that with this they. Have worn down a little bit but i have been running a little bit on the road with the wear and tear brings me to quality and i want to shoot this gonna last running shoes can be quite pricey. Which i will get into this shoes price. In a little bit i think this is a pretty high quality shoe I've probably put 200. Miles on these shoes and i have seen very little wear and tear so wait it's. Kind of inner battle whether to put it as a pro or a con it comes in at 11. Ounces which is slightly heavier than the ultras i was running in but that's probably because of this heavy-duty. Rubber that they have on the bottoms the cons with this thick rubber sole is the. Weight the pros with it is you're going. To get more protection this doesn't have a rock plate on it which leaves it very flexible and that's something that i really like in a shoe but without a rock plate you need protection and that's i think why they put such a thick rubber sole on it so you get protection and honestly it has great protection i run. Our very rocky trails up here in northern utah and i in previous years. I've really felt sharp rocks coming through and hurting the ball of my foot when I'm running and i haven't had any problems with this shoe even with the. Weight they still feel pretty fast and i think that's partly because of this boost material which brings me to the. Cushioning it's about a mid-range cushion it's not a minimalist i would. Say it leans on the more minimalist side but it's definitely in the mid range for cushion with this boost material i have run in Adidas boosts i ran the boston. Marathon and Adidas boost i can't remember which version it was but i. Could tell on those road shoes the boost. Material did have a lot of energy returned i don't feel it as much on this. I'm ok with that because the boost material seemed to be less stable and with this shoe they've put in this. Rubber around right here they've really. Done a good job of utilizing the boost material while at the same time giving you the stability that you need on the trail now we're going to move on to the upper you get quite a bit of protection there's a quite a bit of toe protection here this mess right here offers. Plenty of airflow i have I've had shoes in the past where. I didn't like them because my feet got super hot this shoe does not have that problem and that's awesome Adidas has made a tongue out of eba material it's not that usual cloth and. At first when i saw it i was a little worried i didn't think I'd like it but it does offer enough padding between. Your foot and the laces my two biggest complaints with this shoe are. Number one the lacing system and number. Two the fit and to show you here the. Lacing system is pretty they have the. Right idea it's just they need to change. Just a little bit so down here you can. See how the lacing system goes wide to kind of bring in that toe box i don't. Think you need that because of the fit is skinny i have an average. Width foot and it just feels tight the. The Biggest part of the lady lacing system that i thought was going to be a deal-breaker was right here on this shoe. Right here underneath and my foot is in the shoe on my outside two toes i get. Some rub in it i thought when i put this shoe on and i was walking around at the beginning i thought it was going to be a deal-breaker and i was going to hate this shoe but for some reason when i. Start running it's gone i don't i don't. Feel it doesn't bother me i don't understand why but as much as i thought. It was going to be a big deal it hasn't been another con and i told you to get. Into this is the price of this shoe is 135 dollars but you can't find. It cheaper camp saver comm has them for. 107 or something like that all in all. This shoe i think is a great trail shoe. A great option hopefully in the future versions of the shoe they will be. Able to fix the problems that it has, and they will have a better shoe i do not think that you will be disappointed in the shoe as long as you do not have an overly wide foot i already see the shoe because i am an Adidas outdoor ambassador i have not been paid to say. As you're pulling that lacing type that really draws in and again just ensures. That you've really got a movement mirroring fit in this shoe borrowing. From Adidas is extensive road running. Heritage the shoe utilizes a boost foam. Midsole it delivers cushioning it also delivers. A performance enhancing energy return. It's a long-lived foam unlike some of. The softer cushioning that breaks down in other shoes so even after you've put. A lot of miles on this shoe you're still. Getting that fatigue fighting. Cygnus the shoe itself has a moderate. Six point five millimeter drops that. Helps you maintain a natural stride and. Gives us you really good responsible. Despite its lightweight nimble design. This shoe does not shy away from nasty. Conditions and doesn't need to thank to. The continental rubber outsole that's. The very same continental rubber that. You'll associate with tires performance tires and as is the case with tires. Trail runners are looking for a base and. Looking for traction that performs. Regardless of conditions whether it's dry whether it's wet, and they're getting that in this out, so we've got that.
