I’m fishy bee with fly fish tx and I’d like to walk you through the features fun sword fly reel and show you a bonus, fly fishing adventure of the sword reel in action, taking on big louisiana, redfish and black drum. We used the sword, 910 weight reel the entire day and saw backing with every fish we brought to the boat and the reel worked absolutely perfectly uh truth be told knuckles when you get out of bed now for less than a 20 pound fish in a shrimp basket, and who can blame him he’s ruined on salt water, the real upon initial glance? It’s simply hot uh has an absolute beautiful finish to it.

Uh I really like the gunmetal and green accents makes it look really sharp. In my opinion, uh when you place the reel in your hand, it’s solid, precise and has a really tight tolerance. There’s absolutely no play, and given this drill at all, the sword reel is equipped with a mid arbor spool. This is great for reducing line memory, while also facilitating quick line pickup off the water. This is a real benefit when finessing big fish on like tippet.

Also this reel here has 150 yards of 20 pound backing and 11 weight line, and there’s still ample room on this spool for additional backing. If you want to add some more, I mentioned that the sword wheel is solid, but it’s also extremely lightweight too. It is a precision cnc machine from 6061 t6, aluminum alloy for high impact and durability. You’ll also notice the larger cnc hollow design, which makes for a lighter reel compared to other reels in the same size.

The person I like the extreme hollow body design makes it look really sharp. The sword reel has a hard anodized treatment, which is which increases the abrasion resistance and weather fastness. It’s also cold, forged and tempered, which makes it tough as nails. If I had a nail right now and a board, I tried to drive my nail with it so, but I don’t I’ve been saving the best part of this reel for last and that’s the drag system. The sword reel comes with a multi, disc, cork and stainless steel drag system.

The click drag design provides an accurate and repeatable drag setting, and it’s a very silent whenever you’re doing your retrieve and very smooth, you can’t even hear it also. I love the drag adjustment knob it’s a little bit bigger than normal and has a knurled edge on it. So it’s really easy to grab onto whenever you’re fighting big fish, so you can make adjustments quickly with it. Okay enough talking, let’s see this sword reel in action and we’ll come back and discuss maintenance, so you.

Hi there Jorge cooked with Reddington down here at the caddisfly, we’re talking new reels and reddington’s got a couple of good ones. The behemoth is new. This year, designed by Paul Richardson, one of our brilliant young designers at Reddington, Paul spent a couple of years. Bringing this reel to perfection. The behemoth is going to come in four sizes of five six: seven, eight nine ten space, centric and 1112.

A big boy haven’t gotten that one. Yet the behemoth works on the idea that you’ve got a magnum torque drag that will go as far as anybody needs to take it. Some smart design moves such as building the counterbalance into the spool, a V drive spool, designed for true large arbor, retrieve speed. A very economic based handle this one in red on the black one that, when your hand comes on there, it just seems to kind of mold right in it’s a wonderful piece.

Ergonomically ultrasound, the drag in the behemoth is both wide and far okay. When I say that I’m, referring to the idea that, when she’s all the way off and let’s think of all the way off at zero and all the way on is 10- is that you’ve got a long range to go from zero to ten one of the most dangerous things in a fly reel is when you got a drag that takes one half a click and on a 0 to 10 scale.

You go zero to nine, that’s usually a disaster. On the other end of the line, this one’s got. A long-range drag in the upper range is of exceptional power and the torque okay. So the behemoth in a five six trout, seven, eight spay, nine, ten spay, eleven, twelve, big, spay and saltwater- is a value proposition idea. 109. Ninety five in the five six seven eight, the big guys come in at 2995.

Okay, our value power design element I’ll meet on the curve. The new behemoth, August 2015.

Here today to introduce to you the new behemoth flywheel a range featuring four different sizes in two different colors. The four different sizes range from five six through to an eleven twelve are the two different colors or a black, and a gunmetal silver. This reel is best defined, is the most powerful reel in its class delivered through a new carbon fiber talk system.

It’s took us over two years to bring this product to market with a serious amount of prototyping and refinement involved with scheduling this product completed. The behemoth features a carbon fiber talk system, carbon fiber plates mix with stainless steel friction plates to deliver huge amounts of torque for any quarry and you might be targeting automatic catch.

The behemoths range features up to 30 pounds of torque on the nine 1011 sizes and reels huge amounts of torque for Griffey blue water species. The owner machinable forms allow for completely unique cosmetic unmatched on the open marketplace. Today, the twin molded handles feature: a soft touch, ergonomic grip area which give you great feedback when playing these larger species of fish.

The deep v spool allows for increased backing capacities, which also reduces memory and allows you to retrieve the largest pieces of fish much faster when playing inside the semi, solid rear frame on the behemoth allows for increased durability, prevents torsion when fighting a larger fish on this high-powered system. The oversized aluminium Draganov is another industry first and allows for a greater range in your drag and better control.

When playing your fish, we tested these reels on some of the hardest fight and species around the planet, in both saltwater and freshwater, in fire complying in all of those features. It’s easy to see how the behemoth offers fantastic performance for them.

In this video, we’re gonna take a look at the new Reddington behemoth fly reel. This is a great fly reel for larger game. They also do this in trout sizes like a five six. They also do seven, eight, nine tens, but really this is a reel that has an extremely strong drag system, making it good for bass. Carp salmon steelhead. That kind of thing it also is a fairly chunky reel, which makes it good for your spay switched rods as well. What Reddington was going for was the strongest drag in its class, which they accomplished with this reel, has a carbon fiber drag system, and literally you can button that drag down.

So that’s really really tough to turn that spool, but it’s also still very, very smooth as well, so they didn’t really sacrifice any smoothness for strength. They got the best of both worlds. With this reel has a lot of settings. You can really loosen it up or button it down, depending on what you’re going after has a very unique design to it, something that could not be accomplished with machining. This is actually a cast reel. You can see it has this kind of interlocking pieces of aluminum in there, which makes the spool very very light, you’re, really kind of surprised when you take the spool off how light it is.

It’s really your drag that weighs the most on this reel and these little metal interlocking pieces just kind of mesh right up with the drag system on this reel, and you can just button it back down and nice and sturdy. You also have these kind of rubberized little grips, which is very unique to Reddington something. A lot of other companies aren’t doing a lot of other companies just put a plastic knob on there. This one actually has some rubber grips on it, but very very nice, real great. If you’re looking for a very strong drag system really good for salmon, steelhead I could see the Spay guys really getting after this cuz it’ll balance out those 12 13 14 foot rods that they use also has a nice deep, V spool, which is also unique and different than a lot of other reels.

A lot of the reels, even though they’re large arbors have a fairly shallow Arbor. That stops somewhere in there. This one goes all the way down giving it a larger capacity and also it makes it easier to stack the line on this reel, so very cool reel from Reddington, and that is the new behemoth fly reel. You.

Hey guys, captain Jessi mails here down here in Costa Rica and we’re bringing you a good review of the Reddington behemoth reel series. Okay, we’ve been down here, we’ve tested out the nine ten and the seven eight. We have the nine ten here and this is in black and we have the gunmetal for the seven eight really cool guys. These riddles they’re going to be holding 200 yards of twenty pound test.

Backing I’ve been throwing salt water specific lines. I got just the Rios general salt water for the seven eight and I got the outbound short on the nine ten. We’ve had really good success, with the nine wait out on the rocks and some of the beaches here. Four big snapper drag this along here is really awesome, guys it’s keeping the snapper out of the rocks with the seven eight we’ve been targeting rainbow bass, machaca and done some some late saltwater work.

Looking for a triggerfish stuff like that, either way guys they’re great great reels we’re going to cover some of the specifics about both of them. So some of the cool features on these reels guys it’s going to have a large arbor and it’s going to be shaped sorted in a V okay. So this is going to allow that back and get seated in there real nice. It’s also going to light a whole lot more backing.

We talked about 200 yards, going on the seven eight and a nine ten, and this reel here, you can see he’s got a nice grippy knob. These knobs really help guys when you’re soaking wet can hit by waves. We had that experience finding some of the snapper you’re going to be able to grip that really good. The other cool thing we noticed is how large this drag. Knob actually is- and this comes in handy guys, if you’re going from zero to ten and just a little little little kick of this, then a lot of times you’re going to be snapping off with your bone, fishing or other stuff and you’re using light leaders, don’t want that.

You want to have all this play in this knob and that’s one thing that really comes in handy they’re. Both these reels are going to be pushing 30 pounds of torque on the drag, which is really awesome. You’ll also notice that, as you take the reel apart, the little knob there, Lister knob stays attached. Okay, so you’re not going to lose anything just got these two pieces, so that’s pretty rad I feel like me, you’re going to be dropping stuff losing stuff all the time and you’ll notice.

The way this reel is seated in there guys perfectly machined to fit just right, so you’re not going to have any type of play in there whatsoever. We’ve had a lot of good success of these reels price-wise for the money, it’s as good as you’re going to get we’re really happy to have them down here, we’re going to keep beating them up, and hopefully you guys learned a little bit about the reel. If you check reddington’s website they’re going to have more information a little bit more detailed, they got a great video up to some of the fish they’ve caught on them, so good reel guys if you hear anything else, you’re anything, contrary what we’ve said.

Just let us know, leave a comment thanks a lot swear. This is a kid.

Fly-Fishing today, we’re gonna be reviewing and comparing two of the most popular reels on the market today, I’m talking, of course, about the Reddington behemoth and Big Brother, the Reddington grande we’re gonna start on the behemoth, because it was part of our 2018 real shootout, and we’ve got a lot more data to talk about on this reel and it’s also the more popular reel. But we’re also gonna show you the grande, which is, in our opinion, a nicer better, more well finished reel.

So why is the behemoths so popular? Well, it all starts out with its drag in the 910 size that we tested. The behemoth has a absolutely massive 16 pounds of drag strength for real, that is in the sub $200 class. There’s nothing even close. It’s way more drag strength than you’ll ever need that drag strength is accessed in a quick two and a half turns of this drag knob and in fact you don’t even have to turn it all the way down to get a lot of that drag with a quick finger, tight, I’m able to access over nine pounds of drag on a nine ten.

Unfortunately, though, this reel drops off really quickly at the halfway mark, where we only see a mere 1 5 pounds of drag and if you back it off all the way, this reel will totally free spool for you and essentially puts up no resistance. So if you do have one of these reels, you want to be very careful not to back a drag all the way off. Otherwise, you’re gonna be in some serious trouble. Switching over to the grande you’re gonna find that the drag is very, very similar. It’s still got roughly the same number of turns and the same free spool that the behemoth does, though, it’s not quite as pronounced on the grande and, of course, built with a very similar drag system.

It’s got most of, if not all of that top-end drag as well. So lots of drag strength in both of these reels. Moving on to the spool you’re gonna find that the behemoth has a very middle-of-the-road line. Pickup- and the reason is, is that well, it starts out super now. It’s got this triangular spool in our testing. This was one of the trickier Reles to measure. We have to do some really complicated math to get anywhere close to a good estimate on retrieval rate and spool capacity, but what starts out as a really really narrow spool widens out, so you do get some benefits of the narrow spool, but it does also come with some of the downsides of a wide spool like particularly those last turns of your fly line as you’re bringing them on to the reel.

You’re gonna definitely have to level wined a little bit with your hand, because it’s got a very wide opening at the end. Now the Grande has done a little bit to fix that. If you’re looking at both of these, you can see that the Grande has a taller narrower spool and while they’re both sort of triangular in shape. There are some additional ridges on the Grande, and this makes it a narrower overall spool. It’s going to pick up that backing a lot faster than the behemoths in terms of weight.

The behemoths in the 7/8 size weighs in at 7 6 ounces, whereas the Grande weighs in at 7 9 ounces. So again, very similar. We tribute the extra weight on the Grande to its slightly larger overall size. Now we’re going to talk about some of the really large differences between the two reels, which are the look and feel and how these two are made, starting again with the behemoth. This is an entirely cast reel, so it doesn’t have anywhere near the strength and durability that a fully machine reel like the Grande.

Does it’s also nowhere near as pretty but from functionality standpoint and, if you’re, very price conscious. That may not be the number one concern for you. The Mahima still has one of our favorite drag knobs. It’s super easy to grasp super easy to change. You can put a ton of torque on it and it’s got a fairly nice handle it’s well, not the best handle out there. It’s very nice and still gets the job done on the Grande they’ve kept a very similar drag. Knob, though, to be honest, I prefer it on the behemoth, but they’ve really upgraded the handle.

So this Gironda has a full big-game handle and, as you can tell it’s just a much nicer feeling real and that’s going to come with a lot of added. Well, if you drop this real, it’s not gonna bend in the same way that the behemoth does the machining stands up so much better -, scrapes drops and so on than a cast real wood. But more importantly, this Grande has one more trick up its sleeve, which is a seal drag and the seal drag is gonna, make all the difference if you’re saltwater fishing, these internal parts are going to be protected from the elements and, most importantly, that saltwater, which is going to corrode the behemoth last but not least, is price, which is likely to be a big deciding factor for anyone.

Looking at both of these reels, the Grande retails for – $99 99, whereas the behemoth is a mere 1 1999, so a massive difference in price, but you do get a lot of extra features on this Grande as well. Both of these reels are available with free shipping from Trident fly fishing comm. If you have questions about either the Grande the behemoth or any real on the Reddington lineup, don’t hesitate to give us a call at eight eight, eight, four one, three five, two on one or email us 24/7 at support at trying to fly fishing comm, and if you enjoy this video, don’t forget to give us a thumbs up in the box below I’m Ben.

Thanks for watching we’ll see you next time you you.

Fishing, my name is dallas hudgens and we’re going to be reviewing the redington behemoth reel today. This is the 5 6 weight, uh. First off, though a little bit about me. I’ve been fishing for probably most of my life 25 years now and fly fishing exclusively for the past four or five, and this is the second reel I’ve ever bought. First was just a cheap combo that I had for about a year until I learned that I wanted to really get something nicer, and so the first thing I bought was the behemoth, and so that’s why we’re going to go over this today, because I think it’s a great reel, it could be a great backup reel.

It could be a great reel for someone who’s looking to upgrade from your your first. You know cheap setup, so we’re going to go into that now, real quick. It is a little heavy. It’s right under 11 ounces, yeah, it’s about 10, 8 ounces, it’s great for a big bag, a great bass, rod, great trout, rod. The drag system on it is really really strong. So, if you’re looking to throw a lot of big time, streamers or poppers or chase bigger, freshwater or saltwater fish- and this is a great reel for that- the drag the drag actually maxes out at over 16 pounds- you can really crank it up and put the pressure on those fish that you’re fighting with.

If you’re looking for a real noisy reel, then this might not be the best one for you. It doesn’t sound bad, but it’s just it doesn’t. Have that big, big sound that you get from some of the clicking balls or some of the other reels. I mean it’s. It’s uh. This is very muted. So if you’ve got a fish, that’s you know. Maybe you got your drag turned down and you’ve got a fish.

That’s stripping you off! I mean it’s gonna be um, it’s gonna be pretty quiet. No one’s really gonna hear it. For me, that’s great! I don’t really care if people are hearing my dragon or not, but all that matters is that the drag is strong enough to hold up to some of the fish that you’re gonna be fighting. So the spool on the reel is triangular, so, if you’re looking at it- which you can’t see it on this- because my my backing and my line- but it actually goes in right here into a little point.

So that’s where the backing sits and that just makes it a little bit uh. You can put a little bit more backing in there and it sits better on the reel and that’s going to be better for putting your fly line on it. If something does wind up stripping into the backing, then it’s going to be a little bit sturdier unless you’re chasing big time. Salt, water, fish- it’s not going to happen too often, like I said, especially with the dragon you got on this reel and also the triangular drag system, helps pick up line a little bit quicker than a normal large arbor, or something like that.

So, in terms of looks, I think it’s a pretty pretty great looking reel and these come in all different types of colors. This one right here is gunmetal and the I’ve seen them in sand or green a couple bright colors of black, and I just this was the only one at the fly shop and I was a I got lucky I like the color anyway, so that worked out well uh this right here. That is the drag system, so you can easily turn that tighten it up or you can bring it all the way down.

So it’s real loose, so that line just strips out super easy tightened all the way I can’t even pull it so probably won’t have it that tight unless you’ve got some really strong leader on there, but this little piece right here this comes off and then you can take the real apart. That way, just pull it apart. So it is a cast reel. Just like all other cast reels. They do not do well when drops.

In fact, this is my second behemoth, the very first one broke a week after I bought it. The very first time on the river I had was setting it up on my rod. I dropped it off the tailgate of my truck and the handle completely shattered off um. I mean I still used it that day, but the handle was I mean there was no handle was completely sheared off, so everything had to be hand pulled in, and luckily I didn’t get anything too big that I would have needed to use my drag system.

But behemoth was pretty good about sending me a new reel, though after they heard about that. So I sent in the old one got a brand new one and they they put the line in the backing on it for me, so it was really easy to get in touch with them and have them take care of that issue. For me, and I’ve they’ve been great about my uh, my reddington rods too. The price is going to be around 130.

That might be a little bit more for some of the bigger reels for saltwater, like the uh, some of the 10 weights, or anything above that, but that’s a pretty great price for a reel that has such a strong drag system and, like I said, even though the the handle sheared off pretty easily, it still was able to go on and uh. You know. Since then, I’ve dropped it several times as I’ve spawned in the muds following the water following the rocks and I’ve it still, it keeps on going and that’s because it has a sealed drag system.

So the rest of the reel itself is going to be pretty great and it’s going to hold up to sandy water, dirty water yeah, like the the price for it’s pretty great 130 bucks you get a great reel. Strong drag system looks great and you can use this for pretty much any kind of fishing that you would want to do. So I hope you found this review helpful. The reddington behemoth go down comment on this article subscribe to the webpage, and you know I can’t recommend this enough.

If you’re, looking for a strong reel for 130 bucks, great drag system check it out, foreign.

Hey, what’s up guys, she returned here and behemoth now the first thing about the rennet in Bohemia’s, which is probably the reason why I think most people bought. It is because it’s a price point. The Radisson behemoth, the retails new for about 75 dollars in terms of salt, water, large rubber fly reels. That is a ridiculously low price, especially for the quality that you’re getting I, think the regretted Mahima the revolutionary and has allowed from what I’ve seen hundreds of more people to get involved with fly fishing for species that you actually need drag.

So things like red fish bone fish carve. All of us of it’s made so much more accessible, so I think the Reddington behemoth in concept is just something great for fly-fishing, but how does it stack up as an actual real? Well first office talked about the drive, there’s the thing that most reviews talk about and the drag works really well. There aren’t as many drag settings as there are on a higher price area like an orifice hydros. It starts with moderately loose like something you know: you’d want to strip out live from to really really tight and it locks down pretty darn well like if I was fishing for a big snook or something like that, I would have.

I would be confident that this rear would be able to stop it now. The next thing that a lot of people don’t talk about with reels is the retrieval speed. Now it may not seem important, but when you’re fitting for a species like a false albacore that’ll run to the boat and create a large amount of slack, it’s very easy to lose them. You retrieval speed, is everything it’ll, probably catch more fish than the the strength of the drag and I think the right to making that has an awesome.

Awesome, retrieval speed, it’s real centrally fast and it real isn’t really fast as fast as reels in the 200 to $400 range from what I’ve seen and it feels it feels decently. Smooth another thing: I love about the behemoth is the grip. If you look here, you can see that the grip is, you know very textured and rubbery. This feels a lot different than the grip on something like my orb is high, doesn’t isn’t as textured and rubbery. This is a lot less slippery, so I feel like it’s a lot easier to grasp.

So overall, the read into Mahima is a great real. I, totally recommend them. Now, if you, if you do, have the money to go up to something like an orifice hydros I would I would put it up, maybe if you’re fishing for something we’re gonna need to be casting a lot and you’re. Looking for a real minute, you have to remember that the human is particularly happy I think that’s the biggest downfall this realize. So, if you’re fishing for something like muskie I would upgrade or look at the lamps and liquid or something like that, and if you’re but I’ll live in other than those really nice roles, we were – casting a ton, I think they’re ready to Mahima.

That’s a great all-around reel. It can definitely save you a lot of money and it’s right. If you compete with reels not only in its price class but in reels above its life, guys all right guys. Thank you so much for watching. If you want to watch more reviews, I’ll link one over here and also have a playlist which will have all my reviews and anyways I will see you guys in the next one.

Hi everybody, the feathers again today and I’m hearing a follow-up review using abuse review of the Reddington, be a moth at the unboxing, the first impressions when I got out a few months ago. Since then, I’ve used offshore for mahi-mahi Tamala, fish and I took it the air Malaysia for a stable fashion, trap. We’ve got a few seal fish and I run a few out on it. It’s a very, very good real. It’s amazing for the money. There are some problems, but that’s pretty minor right, except for one there for one.

So the furnish I mentioned us in initial video I, don’t make the furnish very much, and it’s already taken a damage straight. There’s a few bucks. Well, it’s scuffed in that just bought rash bass. I mean it’s happened very easily. I, don’t see it the time when the phosphor I deal with it. I would all you know they could have made that slightly more expensive and probably I’ll furnish or not I, thought and yeah I mean this happen to be on the pinch off. So that’s a point that you’ve need to be aware of and watch out for for the point of view or gonna a coalition, especially in the saltwater environment.

But that’s that’s fairly main. Then you just keep rinsing your gear and look after it and the V spool they sing it reddington. Let the visa bill that gives you I created back in capacity. Well, I, don’t think that’s true! It easy I mean navigate but 275 or fair sex tape and buried on there, which is the same as my Pacific, which is a smaller. The view is actually smaller and it just looks. This looks like a lot back in and orchid valley, but by god, but again very very mean that point. The drag is very powerful, starts up, lovely and smooth I performed.

One lovely read: seal fish I think how me I landed the biggest seal fresh in the trap, which will send a fax I love it now, using the beat him off and ever Simon. That was fine. Then there was no Jackie start up. It was lovely, but today smooth drag excellent. One thing that I did notice went would have been playing beggar fasci with us real as the V spill, and there is a tendency and worst of the tendency for the back of the creep up. One say there was no very, very careful like you really need to be aware of your lane li when you’re m, when you’re waiting back under pressure bag, fresh I noticed several teams like that, at the end of a run when I was bringing Craig, can I fetch back and I’d look down just to check my Langley and it would be start to try creep up either other sides and you had till it corrector so that that’s something that could cause problems.

You know it’s slapping bunching. It can possibly could break a rod that you can bust off a fish. Potentially that can happen with standard shape. School rules is will but I feel that this the school design was really latest. Something of never really fell off, her tippy so much attention to as I had to with us. But you pay attention to don’t forget when your exciter and um you know it, you can just avoid the problem. There’s something did something think about so great mule full of money.

I mean from unbelievable for them really hey I mean it could be 20 surprising at beggary real for the money. So if you’re looking for a backup, I gave me or maybe I would say, if you’re going to be fly fashioned offshore, you know the only thing you’re going to make a couple of traps that are, you know very occasionally. This is the weekend and if it was something that was going to be used, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend that if you’re going to be spending a lot of time offshore, you know you’d like I’d, spend the extra money and get something that’s got a better finish: bag a handle under standard screw, but five, five or five, you know so gets a very, very good view.

So that’s the I said: that’s the you know boost the review of some very minor caboose, but the deal punches well above is well above its price point. Good stuff right, recommend it. So I, just like the bit by the be Hamas hope, that’s helped you in your decision either way and thanks very much for watching guys, bye.
